I'm out.
I'm ip for an easy hour or two midday. Will post
Running late, i'll catch up to the BB crew
It doesn't stop me, but makes me more prudent. Frankly, when you're riding along and everything is fine - shooting pain eminates from Jeremy - it makes you think it best not to ride too far until Jeremy calms down.

A bruise stops Eric from riding?  He's got to do better than that.

I'll be @ the GWB at 9.  Looking forward.

I'm in for Sundee.

Pic or it's an imaginary friend.  Unless it's on your butt, then don't make us ralph.
He's not that obvious. He prefers stealth. That's the problem. No lancing available.

Yep. Go to town with what lancing means.
Lance it!!!

Not gonna lie today was rough, wasn't expecting to ride without a stop for coffee and doughnuts. Got home in one of the most severe calorie deficits I've ever experienced. Must remember to bring more food to JP's rides...
Stop?
We do not stop! (loud eastern european / german accent)
No Donuts For You!
Welcome to winter with JP. That was tame historically speaking.

I will attempt to stand in for the master tomorrow. 9am GWB.
In all seriousness no one need be afraid.

Just remember it's "for the children".

I'm planning on Sunday. Hoping to meet Jeremy on the road.
hi all. im in for tomorrow, 8am BB. might turn around early if i have the slowness. and im pretty sure i do.

FWIW, once racing season is over, it is my intent to lead more relaxed weekend group rides. They will be interesting and good and you will not want to crawl in a hole for three days after they are done. I've done this in the past, started with the group, then gone my own way, inviting one and all. Usually only a few go with me. Far fewer than should, IMO.

And NO, this is not the annual, "you should do base-miles--you don't have time to do base-miles argument" between the mentors/experienced riders; I am thoroughly and totally disengaging from that topic.

AND while I know better than to quote an elite pro, as the be all and end all of authority of training...but I did hear that Mike Garrigan once said, something to the effect of, "What is it with your group rides, you just pummel each other to death on every little climb!" And I found that interesting at least.

So if you can stand not riding with the cool kids every time you sling a leg over the bike, and hanging out with slow-Bertucco, come January/February/March there will be plenty of moderately paced endurance rides upstate in which I encourage you to participate.

P.S. The colder the day, the more adverse I am to stopping. Kind of a bad scene to stop, feel the wet, get cold and try to spend the next 40 minutes warming back up. So yeah, more calories in those pockets. AND NO, this is not the opening salvo of the "you need more calories to ride in the winter--no you don't" mentor argument. That's another one I am not engaging in. Just bring food on your winter rides, 'kay? How much is up to you.
@marc, absolutely agree. Today's ride was difficult because I wasn't prepared with enough food thinking we'd do a usual Piermont doughnut and coffee pause. Thought I had had enough, but by the time we were halfway down the west side I was bonking pretty bad. Lesson learned, bring an excess of calories.

With that said I may do a couple of easy laps at PP, 9am, then hit up pie and coffee (shop opens at 10). Hit me up if you want to join.

im in for tomorrow morning, BB at 8am.
@Mr Yang

Let's meet at GAP at 9AM and pig out afterwards!
I think Jeremy is leaning this way.
@mr bonnaire, excellent and I believe I owe you a slice and coffee.
First, I think all (Aaron, Dale, Yang, Keith, Renat, JP) had a good time today.  Even if it wasn't equally easy for all. Renat was the hardest of hard, and he'll reap the biggest benefit of this ride; chapeau to him.

Second, stopping.  This is no small deal.  There are two big components to stopping.  One is group size.  I've found that the time a group takes to stop grows somewhat close to geometrically in relation to the size of the group in warm weather and usually closer to exponentially to the size of the group in cold.  There is no such thing as a short stop with a large group.  the second big one is temperature.  the closer you get to extremes, the harder it is for people to get going again. Sure, donuts are nice.  But they taste better at the end of the ride.

Third, this was not pummelfest 2013.  It was a steady ride.  And we worked pretty hard to keep everyone close, with the stronger pulling longer.  Steady is good in the cold.  And there's nothing wrong with being the weakest--we've all been there.  Push through, recover, and you'll be a better rider for it.

(and for those thinking ahead to the allegedly hard Battenkill, make it through the winter on a steady diet Kissena rides, and B'kill will be easy--this is one of the reasons why Kissena traditionally does well there)
@mugwump, I'm planning to join you on more of these rides.  I may bitch and whine a lot on the ride, but really glad and appreciative to have someone like you to shepherd a Homer like me to becoming a stronger rider.  So sincerely, thanks!

Also, today's pie and coffee recovery ride was a success.
Ride today rocked! Thanks for the tour, Keith.  Awesome weather.  You guys all looked super duper kewl too. Which is important.  And power record (1050)! #fatboyridesagain
Todays ride was indeed awesome. Thanks for showing me some new routes to piermont, Keith. It was nice meeting more members that i havent had the chance to meet yet (Owens, Keith, Jessica, Neil, Vlad) and riding with others that i have had the pleasure of meeting (Anna Maria, Kayt, Erika, Stokes). It was a fun group and a fun ride!
Likewise @Jeff Apruzzese and all......
I was useless after yesterday's group ride. I blame pie. Okay, pies. Thanks for taking us through the roads less traveled, Keith and Vlad! Even though I was suffering from a major case of pie gut, it was nice getting in some solid miles and a few hills (Crusher!) without too much overall elevation gain. And, of course, enjoying great company.

These longer long rides seem great for pushing boundaries but also for recognizing limits. There were a few moments where I had to remind myself to HTFU, and others where I had pull back w/o shame. Good times!

This is all part of the plan. Glad it's working.

Cue evil laugh.

Thems fightin' words.
anyone who regularly does the group rides or lives closer to the GWB than brooklyn, will you do me a favor?

next time you're at ride brooklyn, ask for Brendan's water bottle.  I left it there during the fiesta.  They said they'd keep it w/ my name on it behind the counter.  I would love to be reunited.  it's one of the newfangled KCC ones, with a bit of wear.

feel free to use it until we can arrange a meeting (wash first, it's been sitting since the party)!  i will likely go on one of the rides this weekend and can grab it from you then.

i'd rather have it in use by a teammate than taking up space at ride.  i hope they still have it.

Brendan, I'll try to get it for you.  Will let you know if definite.
Just curious if anyone has cue sheets or links to MapMyRide (or similar services) for some of the lesser known routes that we sometimes take on the weekend rides? I'd love to take a look.
