And man, what a gorgeous day.

Sounds like everyone had a great weekend of riding! Sorry I missed it! I actually did Pink Rhino's track clinic yesterday (couldn't make the Kissena one next week). I do have to admit I really was nervous as it was my first time on a fixed gear bike ever! I wasn't terribly comfortable drafting and nervous to go fast. But once I got over that "hump" and started to ride fast, it was pretty awesome (and somewhat addictive). I actually might look into getting a fixed gear bike. The no brakes thing is a bit daunting, but it also seems like more crashes happen when people slam on their breaks, rather than slowly stop. I also saw a few Kissena's out there killing it during the mock races! Overall, a really fun day! Hope to ride with some of you folks this weekend :-)
Emily- sounds like you had a great ride! I have to agree that you are a total BOSS on climbs! I definitely see more than a few hilly road race podiums in your future :-)
I'm bringing this back not only because I am happy to see that Daniella is back on her bike, but also because I had ANOTHER such incident last night: Riding home at dusk in the rain with plummeting temperatures and a tail wind that caused me to move very quickly down the west side bike path. A jogger all the way to the right somehow looks a little squirrelly to me and so I move ALL the way to the left as we approach one of those yellow bollards. Without warning and without looking, he turns left across the bike path to make an unannounced U-turn around said bollard. I reacted instantly with loud noises and vigorous braking that sent me into a fish-tail (second of the day after an unrelated incident in the morning). Loud noises caused errant jogger to stop in his tracks and me to survive another day. This is why I hate the spring.Daniella Shachter said:hi all!!
My left wrist is stable now but in pieces. looks like they'll have to set it properly, surgically. i have to follow up with the doctor tomorrow. after its set, it will be the 6-8 week recovery.
the runner went down too. but luckily not injured. she was awesome. stayed to help me. i did tell her she has to look before turning because even if i was going super slow, my response time is so narrow. claimed she did look. i didn't see her making that movement. anyhow, she left her info with jeff, and now i have it, so i'll check in on her. or sue her. any feedback or advice on that would be helpful.
At least until the runner becomes the cyclist. They (I? We? Existential crisis?) are oblivious. Best to treat them like moving landmines and hope luck is on your side.
It's also worth pointing out that, as dorky as it looks/feels/sounds to put one on your fancy road bike, using a bell is technically required by law.
Use your bell, your voice, or yeah, your water bottle, if it keeps you and those around you safe.
I'd like to join you guys Saturday from GWB!
I'll be turning and burning pretty quickly after the PP race on Saturday, heading up towards home, which is near the GWB. So no additional miles for me needed on Saturday. Sunday, I'm thinking a nice long ride in the 4.5-5 hour range. Moderate tempo. One 15-minute-ish stop for chips and coke and treats at a convenience store.Mike Garrigan said:Anyone planning to head out for a longer ride after the ppark race this saturday?

I might be up for that. 64 and sunny sounds too good to pass up.

What is the water?
