Awesome halloween parties, Sohn, cool friends from out of town, and girlfriend running the marathon will prevent me from racing this weekend.
Instead, tomorrow, I'll head out to Cunningham on my cross bike. Will probably be there around 10ish am for about 2 hours, unless is pouring.

Recap of my 8:30am 50-minute spin in Central Park this morning:
-It was cold and rainy.
-My hands went numb almost immediately despite neoprene gloves.
-My feet did NOT go numb with neoprene shoe covers?
-They were running a 5k so everything was barriered and course marshals were everywhere. It was annoying. Quite a difference from when they do bike races in the park, then it's open season.
-I went home soon after.
This was the first really cold day in a while and I definitely underdressed. On the upside I didn't see any other cyclists in the park so at least I got the jump on next years training. 
I seriously don't know how I did rides in this weather for 4, 5 and 6 hours last year. Ugh, I guess it's a steep learning curve.

It's supposed to be a high of 48, dry but with 30-40 mph wind gusts. Probably sticking to the west side bike path and trying to avoid the marathon madness.

Recap of my failed group ride attempt:
- I knew it was going to be an interesting ride when sidewinds kept my bike at an angle on the entire ride across the GWB. It was like I was doing bumping drills with an imaginary friend.
- Was wearing knickers. Needed tights. The exposed area between my ankles and knees got very cold.
- I knew it was only going to get worse when I got a text saying Yang and Clifford, deviating from their characteristic hardmanliness and bravado, decided to turn back before the GWB
- Set out to ride and meet them at a cafe, got a flat, had no frame pump (I thought I was going on a group ride where others would have one, and I was on my cross bike), walked to nearby bike shop and used their floor pump (also bought tube to not be a dick, but I did not pay them to change my flat)
- Turned around, rode back home up West Side Bike path where the winds were comically severe. I was in 46x20 or 23, going embarrassingly slowly while my heart rate was in zone ... 4? The river had white caps on it.
But oh man, those disc brakes really made a difference on the rainy ride!

@Brendan, sorry broski, Clifford and I were a few minutes from the GWB when we got tired of being blasted with 30mph rain and wind. We pulled over and decided to get some hot coffee and pastries instead of heading over the bridge. Snaked through the west side, into Central Park where we were rerouted due to the pre-marathon run, and actually went through Times Square on our way to the west village. We tried waiting it out at the cafe when you texted with the flat, but we were shivering in our wet bibs even sitting indoors so pulled the plug and called it a morning.
Notable moment: At a red light around Lincoln Center, a guy walking by saluted us and said,"You guys are hardcore riding in this weather." I felt smug, cold, and dumb in that order.
@Clifford, great seeing you again. You'll have to come back to visit and ride on a nicer weekend.
@Craig London - Dude, that Elite jacket I bought from you is amazing. A little bit of rain seepage at the seams but otherwise it shed water like a friggin champ. It might possibly be the best piece of kit i own at this point.

Today more windy and cold than saturday but dry at least. Did some wormhole in jersey and found some nice suburban climbs in Teaneck. Bike got moved around some by the wind gusts coming home but much better than the brutal headwind going up the west side path.
Bonus points- avoided the marathon. Hands were actually warm wearing pearl winter gloves.
Also- this is the second day in a row I've seen shirtless dudes running outside. Seriously wtf? It's like 20 with the windchill.

It's that time again- time to plan weekend group rides.
Saturday- I'll be at GWB at 10am (can't make the 9am) for a 3 hour easy spin into Piermont and/or some wormhole action.
Sunday- Down for the faster group ride 9am GWB. 3- 3.5 hours planned. Easy or brisk pace depending.
It's supposed to be dry and in the 50s both days. Looking forward to seeing everyone out there before the cold weather returns!
