Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

I'll be out there Sunday. 8 a.m. BB, 9 a.m. GWB. Holler.

Unfortunately, I have to "volunteer" at my son's school tomorrow lest I lose a $600 "maintenance fee" deposit. (will try to sneak out in the late afternoon before the sun sets, should anyone want to join)

Going to be a beautiful day for a group ride. Good option for those who are lukewarm to the idea of traveling for Sunday's alternative spring race series.
Im in for Sunday
I should be out tomorrow, but an FYI for those of us rolling from BK: The NYC Half Marathon is tomorrow, and it looks like part of the West Side Highway will be closed. Not sure if that will impact the traditional route to the bike path or not -- http://www.nyrr.org/sites/default/files/NYC_HalfMarathon_2015_FNL_0.pdf
In years past, the bike path has not been affected, as the course was on the road.
Awesome. Figured the path wouldn't be impacted, but was curious of any difficulties crossing the West Side highway. Wouldn't change my mind either way.

Will be at the Brooklyn Bridge tomorrow. Chances I'll try for the kitchen sink that was scheduled for today.

The NYC Half finishes right around Chambers, while it shouldn't affect the path, we might find a block or two south to cross might be better. In any case, we can easily play by ear tomorrow.
I'll see you guys  aty the Gwb at 9am.
Will see you guys tomorrow AM...hopefully some other chicas will join as well!!!
I'll see y'all at BB tomorrow. Julie, you'll have chica company ;)
Good turnout today, great to see everyone.
more photos on the pictures thread.
Great pictures.
Even though I woke up a bit late, the trip from my new place in Queens to the GWB took just about 1.5hours so arrived massively early as I allotted 2hours travel time. Froze my ass off waiting for the group but glad I did. Great to see so many people out today.

I don't regret the double doughnut dip at Mattie's (how can I resist one topped with brie??), but I seriously need to get back into shape. Riding with you guys in great form really inspired me so am determined to get back on the wagon ASAP.

The final leg of my new route going home passes through Flushing main street. As a lot of you know, this is when you fantasize about all the lovely things to eat after a long ride so the intoxicating smells wafting out of the restaurants were torturous.

Final note: Potholes. Wide, narrow, shallow, deep, crumbling, whatever. They were EVERYWHERE. Keep your eyes peeled and use caution, its gnarly out there.
Ima tweet those. Any objection?
Go for it Jeff.
So many people!  This is what I hoped EVERY winter ride would looke like.  Would have warmed up the bodies and made the miles go by faster.

attendees included: Yang, Whitey, Vlad, BV-S, Taylor, Malcolmson, Kayt, Julie, Eloy, Austin, Adam, and I'm sure I'm missing some.  I think Chaim and Avi rode to the bridge and then did their own thing.

Some went to Piermont, some climbed Clausland and went to Piermont to pick up the group.

I went on to do the full route.  Headwind up, crosswind home.  I wanted to get a nice hard rumble on 9W to avenge my bad day yesterday.  Wasn't sure how I was going to do it solo, other than try to catch every rider I saw on 9W.

I was lucky at the start: just after dropping onto 9W after Tweed, I blew past one rider.  I could hear him laboring to catch me.  Then I passed a rider at 340.  He also tried to get on.  Then I passed two more at the Tallman sign.  They also tried to get on.  At the first rise to IBM, two of them attacked me.  Then they sat up.  I kept on the pressure.  passed two on Stateline, another three on the next hill.  and I was out of targets.  Luckily, one of the riders I dropped, a Lupus rider, started his effort and eventually caught up to me.  I asked if he wanted to drill it to the bridge.  "I'm just doing my tempo. 300 watts."  I tuck in for a minute and start to take a pull as the light turns red at Closter Dock.  We slow, a guy who had come out of River Road catches us.  "Mind if I join in?"  Not at all.  Rob drops off as we start up and the two of us get to work.  After we realize Rob is gone, the other guy asks, "Minute pulls?"  perfect.  We do a two-up time trial to the bridge.  Felt good.  Looking at the box, it seems I managed a threshold effort from  the foot of stateline to the bridge.  A little recompense--if I could have managed this yesterday, I would have been fine.

Bummed to have missed the ride, but I can tell you that the Pre-K bathroom at my son's school is now as close to sparkling as it's ever going to get.

I got out on the road at 3pm and just squeezed in the Saddle River Wormhole ride before it got dark. The wind was fierce and blustery. Mega watts, mega slow on the way out. Fortunately, I had a tail wind on the way back, cruising at 21 mph, cranking out just 150 watts was welcome relief from the first 1/2 of the ride.

Hopefully next weekend we'll have a good group ride going. Need some KOM and sprint line fun to keep me sharp ahead of Trooper Brinkerhoff and Tufts Crit at the end of the month!
Great photos!! Really bummed to have missed it. Today was supposed to be my first club ride in too many months, but unfortunately am feeling under the weather. This is the motivation I need to get out next week. Plus the reminders from race organizers of upcoming races landing in my inbox. Can't believe Grant's Tomb was yesterday! That was the first NY race I did last year, and I was in a lot better shape by then :)
Today was really fun!  Sorry I didn't a chance to say bye to ya'll after, had to head out and to see a friend in NJ so I drove over the bridge.  Thanks for the good workout and special thanks to @David Yang for his wheel up the hill and @Bruce van-Schalkwyk for towing me back in the homestretch!  Cheers guys!  Looking forward to next week!
Thanks to all for waiting
Really enjoyed the ride with you guys yesterday. That rotating pace-line on 9W killed me. It was good punishment for doing "jack S@#t " during the winter. Cramped up as we got onto Riverside drive and had to stop to get rid of it. Felt good after that and made it home with no more problems. Lesson learned.
^ Our "no drop" ride in full effect! Sorry Austin, if I'd known I would have stopped and waited or poured you a G&T.

No problem John. You guys waited plenty throughout the ride. I would have be dropping off to take the 59th st bridge shortly after that. Thanks for your help earlier changing the flat tire.
Yay, snow in late March!

Assuming it's not blizzardly, is anyone planning on doing the group ride tomorrow?
Assuming no blizzard...

Yes, I am planning on riding long tomorrow.

Let's say 8AM BB ~ 9AM GWB

I am flexible on start time, specially depending on weather. Post here or text if another time works. 347.225.1058.

Hoping to include the prescribed Peaks long workout:
  • 2 x 15-minute FTP Intervals in your LOW FTP Zone. During the intervals complete 15 little bursts for 10 seconds each 130% of FTP.

  • 3 x 5 Minutes at VO2MAX Zone

I'm in for a group ride too. Let me know how much time you have from bridge to bridge, I can lead a wormhole ride and let you know where you can take the front for 15 minutes of FTP. The Saddle River Ride is about 3:15 from Bridge to Bridge. The climbs are on the shorter side of 5 minutes on that ride though. The rolling nature of the roads will automatically account for those prescribed bursts. Kayt and I can sit on your wheel and enjoy the ride.

Apple Orchard is a solid 4:15 bridge to bridge, 70 miles. I have to be home by 1pm so we'd have to leave by 8:30am for that.

Rockland Lake is about 50 miles bridge to bridge. But that's the usual long Sunday ride.

Alternatively, we could go traditionalish up to Piermont, ascend the mountain two different ways for two of those VO2 efforts, I can lead you home a back route that is neither "the low road" nor 9W.

So for Eloy's ride, it might go something like this, meet up at the bridge, once we get onto the wide shoulder portion of 9W out, he gets to the front, does his 15 minutes of FTP, chill as we drop into Piermont, hit up Bradley, then to the top of Clausland Mtn, drop back down any number of ways, and climb again. Say, up Old Mountain Road which is insanely steep, or other top secret Keith/Chabanov ways up, then cruise back home back roads, then the final climb up to 9W would be the last VO2 effort.

Or, we could head out to the Apple Orchard, the Water Tower is around 5 minutes of climbing. The climb to the Orchard is a touch longer, and if we take Little Tor to get there, I guarantee you will be in VO2 just be propelling the bike forward. I personally like doing climbs for my VO2 stuff, because I don't have to think about it. Anything above conversational pace is pretty much VO2.
@Eloy, I'm up for 8 am start time even though I know you think that's a bit early :)

@Marc, so glad you can join! If we could hit some hills before Piermont, that would be awesome. I need to be back in Brooklyn by 1 pm so there's a bit of a time crunch.

Also, for anyone joining the group ride from BB, a potential new recruit, Kristina, will be joining for part of the way.

This is, again, if this snow doesn't f$&k everything up.

at least its gonna be warm
