Great Day.  Great People.
Only one questions: Where was everyone else?

At the GWB: Will, Mark Taylor, John Malcolmson, Scott Kukle,Sean, Julie, me.  

We started on River Road.  Lots of groups out.  Sean killed the alpine climb.  We kept going to Piermont, where most stopped, while Sean and I headed for more.

We ended up taking the gravel/dirt/paved path from Nyack Beach to Haverstraw (probably about five miles all told) before heading to the orchard and back.  Despite skipping several of the regular climbs, I still managed 4,000' of climbing in 70 miles.  And we kept the pace going all the way back to NYC.    

Of note, though Nyack Beach State Park was officially closed, we saw at least 30 people and several dogs on the path.  One dog was swimming in the Hudson.  A little dog was aggressively chased down by her person as we approached, because, the person remarked, the dog hates cyclists.  

What JP failed to mention was the unleashing of a hammer fest once we headed out of Piermont. Including out of the saddle sprinting at every corner. Was great to get out today and see everyone.

I was racing. 7 riders is actually a pretty healthy sized group for a regular Sunday ride, IMO, FWIW.

Dale and I opted for the patented early afternoon/late morning Prospect spin, because (at least in my case) #fat

Great day of riding, wish I had the stamina to push beyond Piermont.  Had a good pace line coming back, Malcomson's "chill" pace is one I still need to work up towards!  Mark and I finished out the the ride back to BK where spring like conditions persisted.

No need to apologize, as I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Agreed, felt about the same to me just a lot longer. But I probably shouldn't have went up alpine with no regard for the next 3 hours.

Then again I felt pretty good until about mile 83 when I hit a wall at about the intrepid.

I'm going to reference this exchange the next time I get the stink-eye on group rides for being forced to defend KOMs on unapproved climbs.

Jill, this is up to Piermont and back, right? What time have other new member rides gotten back to GWB and BB in the past? I assume that the pace is slower than the usual group rides and there is a no drop policy. I'd like to go but am trying to figure out if I can work it in before family responsibilities. 

Correct, it's up to Piermont. I think that I was back to Brooklyn at 12:30ish last time.  We try to make the stop slightly quicker in Piermont as none of us want to be out there all day long and I am not one for lollygagging.  I mean, this is no Rapha Ride, thank goodness!  #blamerapha

Also, we're getting into the time of year where stopping for extended periods of time ensures wet, cold return trips home.

I'm definitely in for the new member ride on Saturday and chatting with folks along the way. But instead of stopping at Piermont, I'm going to continue in some kind of counterclockwise Northerly direction. Maybe a "reverse Rockland Lake" ride depending on time available. I have to be back to the GWB by 12:45.

My pace on "part II" of this ride will be just fast enough to meet my timing goals. So not slow, but not brutal either. I would welcome company.

Sunday is looking more open for me. Probably start with the usually KCC ride, then hit up the Orchards or somesuch. They've done a fair amount of repaving that way and it makes for more pleasant ascents/descents.

I'll join the new member ride at the GWB. Looking forward to it

Forgot to post these from last Sunday

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY! Who's in? Traditional Piermont/Rockland Lake routes? Or worm-hole? I just did a Rockland Lake ride with the new member ride, so I'm partial to mixing it up. However, this weekend, I favor company over route choice, so I'll go with the masses.

There are going to be masses of you out right?

Today's weather was chilly but sunny, dry and quite manageable. I even rode sans booties (but with chemical foot warmers). However, I would say it's definitely fleecey shorts/legwarmers weather. Thicker gloves too. To each their own of course.

Anyway, looking forward to another fun ride on Sunday, 9am GWB.

Just me and JP at the GWB today. Sunny, cool day. Similar to Saturday, but a touch cooler. I still managed well w/ no booties and chemical foot warmers. But I did wear a thicker base-layer underneath my jacket today.

Anyway, we totally worm-holed it today. We explored a few roads that even JP hadn't been on before. Felt like the whole ride was a 2-5% climb into a headwind. But that's what you get when you ride with a hammer like JP.

I at much food-stuffs enroute. I'm tired. Good times.

A huge thank you to Marc, Patrick, and Jeff for helping lead the Meet Kissena Ride yesterday!  We had a great group of 7 new riders join us for a cold morning ride to Piermont.  It was a very strong group and more than half ended up joining Marc and Patrick around Rockland Lake!  Thanks for a fun morning ride!
