I have the meet kissena email scheduled to go out on Feb 1st at noon, so if at date could be decided upon before then, I will be able to change the ride.  Otherwise, It is currently scheduled for the Sunday, the 28th of February.  I vote that we do the tune up ride the day before on the 27th.

I think Saturday, Feb. 27 for the KCC All-Hands Ride and Sunday, Feb. 28 for the Meet Kissena ride work quite well. The Saturday ride will be physically challenging and the easy pace of a Meet Kissena ride will be a perfect follow-up the next day.

     Thanks for writing in.  (I'm hoping there are plenty of lurkers who are just too shy)

     The timing has to do with the fact that the racing season starts the next weekend.  Typically, the folks who are racing at the start of the season are less able, or less willing, to do something like this once they're racing (the word is "typically" which doesn't preclude people from doing something different), and the need is very much about acquainting, or re-acquainting one another with how each person rides and where their fitness is at.  In terms of fitness, lots can happen in three weeks, so if we schedule it for the second weekend of February, people's fitness might be far from where it will be the first weekend of March

   If you're away the last two weekends in February, we've only got three weekends left to choose from.  This weekend is probably too soon for everyone to get a gauge of fitness, and too messy for Rockleigh.  As late as possible is the best choice. (and doing such a ride on the last weekend in February doesn't preclude a repeat on a non-racing weekend day in March)

     Perhaps, people can tag my post with the "agree" if they intend to show up the last weekend of february for a big group ride/race/confab, so we can start to gauge interest.

    However, regardless of whether or not we can move the date to something that works better for you, I encourage you, and everyone else reading this, to come out every Sunday to ride together.  The fun, the fitness, the skills, the socializing are all rolled into one.  

Also, the timing for the tune up is great because it's the week before the first race!  (For the women, that is the development series in CP, March 6th!)

If you're bringing a fat bike, River Road will be fine.  otherwise, expect to walk.

They don't plow between the chained-off sections.  

Do the Kissena standard.  Turn back at either Closter Dock or Palisades.

The usual Sunday ride.  If time allows, a bit past Rockland Lake.

Hey Sean, sorry, I should have posted an update. I was able to get out earlier at the traditional time after all. It has been touch and go with my wife being pretty sick the last 4 or so days. Hopefully you got out for some riding.

Group of 6 or so out for one of the warmer days we've had all winter. About 35 degrees at the start and easily in the 40s by the time the ride was over. Some wet roads meant those who had fenders have less jersey/jacket washing to deal with post ride and also earned my envy.

After Malcolmson dusted the field on the low-road sprint (leaving it uncharacteristically, for him, "late"), the group split up at Piermont per usual. JP and I continued north. There was some scary moments though as some asshole in a pick-up truck leaned on his horn, then proceeded to hit JP with his sideview mirror which thankfully was of the folding variety. The truck pulls over, I check with JP, "are you okay?" "Yes." "Okay, let's keep moving, if the asshole follows us, we stop and call the cops." He didn't and we continued, taking in some exploratory roads off the usual path.

(Not to be outdone, later in the race some jerk in a PRIUS, beeps at us as we slow for a RED light, then cuts through a convenience store. Assholes apparently drive all kinds of vehicles)

Wound up back at Rockland Lake where JP put in a pretty serious effort that had me hurting. Pretty moderate the rest of the way, re-discovered a few back roads worth hitting up again.

In the end we were back at the GWB at a civilized 12:30pm. I wanted more saddle time, but honestly, best not overdo it on these weekend rides. Because, gotta have some legs for midweek work!

PS. A lot of team rides spotted on today's adventure. We passed at least 4. And lots of new kits out there. I hereby proclaim this the year of the "fun-fetti" jersey.

Riding long on Saturday. Apple Orchard-ish. Endurance/tempo pace.

Sunday, I'll start with the group ride but have to turn and burn home early-ish.

I'm planning on doing a Bradley-Tweed ride on Saturday and shorter Alpine River Road Sunday without a stop.
