@JillWhite, Debi Martin at TrainingPeaks told me that they had loaded the GMSR plan into my account. It could be that both the standard plan and the GMSR plan share this workout this weekend.

This weekend the TrainingPeaks workout for GMSRers calls for 4x10min FTP intervals early in the 3-hour ride (all other times endurance zone). Could anybody recommend some fresh climbing terrain for this workout? Something in Jersey, perhaps? Don't get me wrong, the usual River Road-9W-Bradley-Tweed loop is fun, but I'm curious about alternatives. (My Garmin is capable of turn-by-turn navigation if I upload a TCX file, in case anyone has a route they want to share with me that way.)
JP can help you in your quest.

Are you looking for steady 10-minute climbs?  If so, there's nothing close by.  There's a climb in Oakland, NJ that goes on for 8-12 minutes depending on your effort--but it's 25 miles from the GWB (and it's not steady: it finishes with a 14% grade, though kind of stair steps the rest of the way).

I think there's a way to climb in Tenafly for 8 min or more, but you'll have a brief downhill in the middle. and lot

If you take Bradley from the west side, and start at the intersection of Greenbush and 303, you might be able to make the climb up to the top in about 10m.

There's another stair-stepper in Cresskill that can probably last 8 min or so, but takes lots of turns.

I think your better bet is to do the FTP either on the flats, or try to get 5min on the flats before hitting a hill.
I guess bear mountain or perhaps silvermine, tiorati? all in harriman

Thanks JP. Can you explain the Tenafly and Cresskill options in more detail? Could do it in a private message if we don't wanna gunk up this thread, or move over to the "Climbing" thread.

Here's one I called McMansion Switchbacks in Cresskill

If you start at the intersection of County road and Hillside Avenue, it will probably be over 10 minutes.

As for the second, I thought I created a Strava segment for it, but I can't find it.

You start at the intersection of Stonehurst drive and Thatcher Road in Tenafly.  Stonehurst to Leroy, left on Leroy, right on Devon, Left on York, right on Oxford, left on Kent to Woodland.  I thought this was about 7m, but I rode it today and it's more like 4:30 at 320w.  I guess doing it after four hours is different than after an hour.  All the same, you could make a right on Woodland and ride another 5m to E. Palisade.
9am GW Sunday
I'll be there tomorrow - BB @ 8 AM
I'm probably confined to the park, anyone know if the tree is still as of tonight
@Brian — Gonna be hot again. Go an hour earlier? 7am BB > 8am GW?

Tree was being chopped up around noon today, assume they finished up and hauled it away
@MaxThorn,

So the climb in Tenafly I called Whoop de Ups.  https://www.strava.com/segments/5437156?filter=overall

My effort thursday tied me for the KoM with Kissena Jeff Owens--who set it with me a few years ago.

On Saturday, I found a potential 10m threshold route that goes through both englewood and tenafly.

I averaged 250w for 10:34 on this effort.  If this isn't long enough, you can keep on with Woodland a ways, or make a left on Johnson.  Keep taking Johnson around.

Didn't see this before the ride - would have been a good idea - so hot yesterday. Still re-hydrating
Max, this is a nice climb too. I like the escalation starts mild and finishes at 12%

We can do it next week
Yeah, let's do it. We should be able to hit each of these four climbs on the same ride:

Hillside Ave Climb https://www.strava.com/segments/2487936
McMansion Switchbacks https://www.strava.com/segments/6521320
Whoop de Ups https://www.strava.com/segments/5437156?filter=overall
Blissed Up Ramps https://www.strava.com/segments/12642568

If we figure out how to make them into a loop, we can ride a couple laps of it.
great yes!
Saturday 6AM BB 7AM GWB

Ride early and go long or get back before the heat hits. Win Win...except for those who like to sleep in.

I might try to make it for the early bird special, but tbh you might have to leave me for dead.  I get winded very easily these days.
If I don't race tour of the hilltowns, I'll join you Saturday
Any takers for this Sunday 6:30AM BB 7:30AM GWB??
@Dan Reiners I'll be there. Feeling a little rough around the edges after being sick for a few days, so going to save my Ventoux'ing for another Saturday ;)
The NYC Triathlon is this Sunday, July 24th.

Plan accordingly.
Dan - I may meet you at BB tomorrow. I'm not an early riser but I'm gonna try... but don't wait up for me
Guys I will go with Max later at 9
Giacomo - will you be at GW at 9? If I can't make early one, I may join you and Max. Extreme heat vs extreme early-ness.... :/
I'm still gunning for early, 6am BB.  I better go to sleep now.
Brian yes, 9 am

Attempting the 7am GWB ride.  (Very) Slow and steady pace for me.
Shooting for 7am GW.
Come on!  7am GWB is not fair to the Brooklynites.  You will be home before it even gets warm.  I'm planning on 8am BB, 9am GWB .
