saturday (tomorrow) i'm headed out from GWB to piermont, will do normal start time if others are in but if i dont hear from anyone i will probably start later. i plan to just run the scheduled workout, 1 hour z2 then 3x15 sweet spot. i'll be on my commuter tho with cross gearing so the pace might be a little... weird. and you might not want your svelte road bikes to be seen alongside me my unsightly rack and fenders!
Thanks for checking John. Being as I'm yet without fenders and also have nothing else to do today, I'm gonna postpone my ride. If anybody else wants to join me at the GWB at 11, I'll be there.
Awesome ride today, 9 of us made it to Piermont. I was late to party and unplowed side roads were a bit sketch, so took straight 9W. The others did a crash free low-road (nice skills). JP continued solo off into horizon. Watched Vos the CX boss. Miele took all State lines and Strictly? Brendan dropped bombs at gas station sprint.
Gear check: 2 x merino base plus thermal jacket, 2 x bib shorts merino socks and booties, thermal cap. SKS Fender (unless they've altered the design, their front fender doesn't work on aero road bikes).
Nice to see everyone. All y'all were looking like strongmen. JP, thanks for guiding us through the frozen low roads. Unfortunately the hidden potholes got the best of me and I pinch flatted. I had C02 but JPs full sized frame pump was irresistible and sure enough it was way faster than the mini pumps I've grown accustomed to.
Nice job at the sprints all, I had nothing in me to contest. Guess I'll have to work on that before the spring crits.
I rode my fake-locross bike with clip on SKS fenders which are aces. The combo of high BB, springy steel tubes, and uninspiring old canti brakes made it feel a lot less stable on the roads than on the trails or relatively slower (and softer) cross courses. The SRAM 1x drivetrain (40x11-28) worked flawlessly but I was spinning out on the descents and leadout before the gas station sprint.
Kit check: Merino wool jersey, winter bibs, winter leg and arm warmers, long sleeve winter jersey, light wind vest, Giro tech wool cap (my fav, pick one up at Redbeard), and regular socks. Totally forgot the neck/chin gaiter and toe covers.
