My fingers are still cramping. Hot ride.
Nice group ride today. I met John at the BB, and Misha from Veselka rolled with us up to the GWB where we met up with Sebastian and JP. Misha took off for other pastures, and the four of us took River Road for a lively jaunt.
At the base of Alpine, I dropped my chain like nobody's business. I got off my bike and fiddled with it as the others ascended. That and the creaking fork (thanks, Sebastian for pointing this out, since I had already regreased the crank, thinking that should have been the source) means it's time for that quarterly check and overhaul.
John turned home after Alpine; an hour and a half later, I was wishing I had, too.
We rolled to Clausland where JP continued straight and Sebastian found a second wind to give me a drubbing on the climb.
And the great thing about climbing Clausland? When you're done, there's more climbing! Yay.
By that point, I'd already lost a couple of pounds and was dreaming of iced coffee.
After our stop at the bike store, Greg and Tess (nice ta meecha) rolled in ready for some shade.
Sebastian and I took the hills along 9W and got into a nice paceline which I really, really, didn't want to do. I was fighting with my head at this point and had to push through it, with the sun blazing down and my jersey soaked. We picked up a stray E2Value rider who jumped on our wheels and we rode most of the way on 9W until my head and legs were in sync and I gave up. Not entirely sure, but I think the other two may have been glad one of us finally drew the short straw.
Back in Manhattan, we attempted to get to the 59th St bridge, but the Puerto Rican Day parade had other ideas for 5th Ave crossings, so we cruised down 7th Ave, 2nd Ave and then the Manhattan bridge.
A mile from my house, a group of casual riders were headed the other way and someone yelled, and I watched a bottle of water drop to the ground, and he was told to forget it. I almost went across the street for it, having just licked the last drop from my own bottle. I was getting thirsty.

I almost didn't make it up the stairs at home, I was so exhausted and heat-logged. Sitting down seemed like a good idea, but I pushed onward into a cold shower, water, protein smoothy and then passed out.
Great to ride with John - haven't chatted in a while. Sebastian is in excellent form, so is JP, as always.
We saw Jim heading back from his early morning explorations, and Eloy rolling sharp as ever.

I had a nice solo jaunt in the relative morning cool for some iced coffee on tap in Piermont.
Scored a PR on the Ludlow St Observatory climb and saw these guys right at the top.
My eyes were a bit crosseyed so I took a picture as a reminder.
Good to see a bunch of Kissenas heading north as I made my way over the bridge and downtown.

You're not the only one. I made it out to Rockland Lake, climbed back on 9W, stopped at the 9W Shop, doused my head and shoulders and refilled my bottles for the ride home.
Climbed up to Clausland from Nyack College, then along the ridge and down to 9W.
Once past Sparkill on the way south, I commenced my usual solo mission of riding a hard tempo and seeing how many riders and groups I can pick off.
After rolling past a bunch of people on Stateline and then another bunch more on the next hill, I was closing on a guy who was passed them all as well. I got him at the Scout Camp, and kept rolling. He decided to get on my wheel and not share the pacemaking.
We passed a few more people, but got stuck at the light after Closter Dock.
As we started up, I figured if he was going to ride that way, I'd rather just keep him a few bike lengths ahead and let it be.
After a mile or so, I realized I had stopped sweating a while earlier and needed to back off.
One of the guys I passed caught me, and decided to engage me about Kissena. (His name is Danny, rides a Cannondale, lives in Brooklyn, about 56) We chatted the rest of the way back.
The pace I had kept with Bruce and Seb and John I had managed to keep just about until I overheated, and then it all went away.
(I also found out on the post-ride upload that last week was my highest-mileage week of the year, 270mi)

Sebastian / Greg - I'd be down for riding both days - longer / climbing is fine with me. Leaving from brooklyn, I'm not sure I want to do anything over 80 miles... If either of you settle on a time, let me know, otherwise I'd be down to head off around 8 - 8:30ish from brooklyn. Not too scared of rain - I got that new superlight gore-tex jacket a month ago and it's awesome
