920 - go ahead I’m taking 9W to Piermont 

Headed out solo early this morning with the goal of getting home by 11:00.

Took River Road north and then went over Ruckman "Road" (just north of Kiku) down to Anderson and then jogged over to the rail trail, up to Ash, and then down into Piermont for a quick coffee. It was 31 degrees up there and my toes were feeling it but the sun was starting to peek out of the early cloud cover.

Heading south I went through Tallman and up Woods Road to the observatory and then took Old Route 9W to State Lookout. Some hike-a-bike and over the bridge dropped me back onto 9W proper. Saw John headed north - hopefully to meet with a full contingent cause by this time the weather was turning quite nice.

I don't mind the stairs on the north side of the bridge too much except walking up and down them makes my knee warmers fall down

Home at 11:05 with just about 70 miles.

I would like to propose a Thanksgiving morning hammer ride up 9W. 
Leave at 7am and back by 11am at the latest.
Quick regroup at the top of Alpine. Bathroom break and water refill at Piermont. Regroup at GWB before crossing back. Would there be any interest?

Plan is to leave at 5:30am - first hour will require lights.

Average 12-13 mph - true endurance pace, no hammering.

Back in Brooklyn by dark or soon after.

Some gravel paths not suitable for skinnies but probably fine with 28s or above.

Weather is supposed to be good on Friday with highs in the upper 40s.

Anyone want to join?

@jim_nelson I''m 90% in for this. 

In figuring out if I should ride the cx bike or roadie, is there dirt and gravel once we cross over the Bear bridge? They recently paved the sketchiest parts of Hook Mountain, and the roadie held up fine on 25's.

On the west side, Ruckman Road would be tough on 25s and I've not ridden the Jones Point Path so can't be sure.

On the east side, South Mountain Road is fine on a road bike and I think there are some dirt sections around the reservoir but I'm pretty sure they are road bike friendly.

Unfortunately it looks like the Briarcliff-Peekskill Path is not open to bikes so a reroute is necessary. I was contemplating Croton Aquaduct but that can be slow going with all the road crossings so I'd probably just swing around to pick up the N. County Trailway earlier.

My intention is for this to be a somewhat leisurely ride but I'd be happy to modify the route to eliminate the most gravely bits if the general consensus is road bikes. I'll still be on 35s.

Also, the short hike-a-bike over the bridge and along the trail to the state line lookout road would be less than pleasant in road shoes.

Tomorrow Prospect Park will host the yearly Turkey Trot.

You will probably not be able to ride the park while the race is on.

Hey, I think that might have been me. I was trying to quote you (like I did here) but guessing I clicked the wrong thing and edited your post, which I am allowed to do as an Admin, but did not mean to and never do. It was late and I was typing on an ipad.

Hope you got your ride in. I rode a bit later around 11:30 am and the Park was kinda perfect for cycling, bcs no crowds.

My longest ride.

Officially 150.7 miles door to door - almost exactly 12 hours (10:40 moving time). Dark when I left, dark when I got home.

Headed up the west side of the river, over the Bear Mountain Bridge, up to Cold Spring then east to Carmel and then south along the Putnam, North County, and South County Trails.

At about mile 130 I was fading but a package of Fig Newtons from a mini-mart in Yonkers saved the day. Demolished all the turkey leftovers when I got home.

River Road - 7:00am


Jones Point Path -  parallel to 9W between Tompkins Cove and the bridge. Quite sandy so not sure how doable on skinnier tires.

The point is to hit different roads, get out of the ordinary.

I'm happy to ride a pace everyone finds agreeable.  

i'm up for it JP but i may head back a bit early. i'll be at BB at 8, GWB at 9. i'm looking for a nice endurance pace ride
