Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

How many folks do we have anticipated for the new member ride on Saturday? @JohnOlsson

I could definitely go for Bradley-Tweed this weekend, any chance we could get an A and B group going that re-groups at certain points like top of Tweed, Piermont Bikes, Kiku or Strictly on way back, etc...?

I'm not quite at a point where I can hold 20+mph extended, totally fine, but figured I'd put this out there if anyone else was in a similar boat?

Ahh didn’t realize there was a Meet Kissena ride going out Saturday. Still down for some hills/ efforts but maybe more local than driving up to Harriman?
GWB Meet Kissena Ride this Saturday

8AM Brooklyn Bridge, 9AM GWB roll

GWB Meet Kissena rides will continue to be the last Saturday of every month from now until end of October.
@RobertMullen Trying to get back to riding.  Would be interested in doing an early drive to Harriman if you're free Sat?  Or just Bradley / Tweed loops? lmk
@ErikPfiffner @RobertMullen not to influence your decision ;), but it's always nice to have a strong Kissena showing at these weekend group rides. I would say that alpine to bradley tweed to water tower to reverse bradley tweed is a good day if you want to get some climbing in.

and, a rare treat: i may be able to join on Saturday.
Agree with @Will Kalbacker . We will prob split at some point to allow for ppl to do a longer/more 'spirited' if they want
@ErikPfiffner I think due to the circumstances, I’ll probably do the meet Kissena ride. 100p down to do some of this spirited riding stuff though
I’m in for starting at the Meet Kissena ride and splitting off for a spirited ride. The easiest option is to do loops up Bradley/Tweed. Two more involved options include 1) heading to the Orchards or 2) I can park my car in Piermont and a few of us can drive to Harriman
In for Saturday. Definitely want to get some climbing in, down for whatever the group decides on.
Do we have people confirmed for Meet Kissena? This isn't helpful, but I'm also down for whatever haha. Lets all decide on something
Let’s do multiple loops up Bradley and Tweed, and then we can see what else our legs are up to doing
<Bump>

GWB Meet Kissena Ride Tomorrow

We are expecting a few prospects on tomorrows ride, we will break off into two groups once the newbies have had a chance to get to know us a bit.

8AM Brooklyn Bridge, 9AM GWB roll

Mixed bag on the ride.  A big group, which is good  A fast-ish ride, which is good.  A few prospective members, which is good.

We headed for River Road and it was spirited on the hills.  Some good form was shown.

Then Will Cheng hit a rider who crashed in front of him on 9W, a bit north of River Road. Will went down hard. The rider wasn't with us, and I think he was at fault--he seemed to put his front wheel into a hole.  Several riders went down behind him.  (let us know how you're all doing)

We called 911.  The state police first showed.  I think they were chastising some of us for something or other.  then the ambulance arrived.  Will went to the hospital, Greg Donovan took Will's bike to the ranger station and was going to ride home, get his car and bring Will's bike back.

We moved on to Piermont, where a front wheel was trued and Mark Taylor's eTap couldn't be fixed.  A group went back, a group hit hills.  Hope the only remaining pain was of the lactic acid kind.

I split off and headed for Little Tor and the Orchards.  I haven't had a climbing-heavy ride all year, so I wanted to hit everything.  I climbed Little Tor from the south side, descended to 202, turned around, climbed back up, descended to the approach road to the Orchards, and climbed it.

Rolling home on 9W, I was doing my usual, picking off riders and hoping to find a good wheel or a good wheel find me.  The wind was really strong.  I passed a guy just south of Closter Dock.  He whistled and got on my wheel.  We traded pulls to the uphill sprint on Hudson terrace, where he crushed me.  Should have seen it coming, as he got on my wheel at the last light on 9W and didn't help until unleashing his sprint.

Wahoo and Strava need to get their act together.  I had 8066' of climbing  on Wahoo but only 7687' on Strava.

Hope everyone is doing alright after a pretty hectic start this morning! Kudos to everyone who handled the shitty situation well. After the unfortunate events described above, a few of us went to hit some hills and get some more time on the saddle in. It was pretty quality stuff the whole time for a group that whittled down to 4. Ricky, Rich, Pat and I had a really solid 2nd half of the ride to Rockland Lake.

Pat was really next level going up hills, looking super strong. Rich was strong and real consistent, working hard with the group. He seems to have 2 chain rings, but I don't think inner one has ever been used. Ricky took some huuuuge pulls, bonked, and then had a second coming on the way back. He destroyed the final sprint handily.

It was a great way to cap off my Giro de NYC Public School Spring Break (non-UCI sanctioned) and my biggest week of training (maybe ever).
Meanwhile at ER Will had a surgeon repair his lip, in post-op at 6:30pm waiting for his wife to pick him up. Huge shout out to @GregoryDonovan for hauling Will's bike (no thanks to NJ PD) and then hanging with him in ER all afternoon. I remember seeing the guy's hands coming off the bars and his front wheel jacking 90 degrees, we all had very little time to react. A good lesson in why you don't let randos ride with your group.
I hope the adrenaline of yesterdays ride has worn off and everyone is taking some time to reflect. Glad to hear folks had some quality time on the bike regardless of the happenings earlier in the day. Here are a few happy photos from yesterday.
Update on @WilliamCheng — After going through two surgeries Saturday and Sunday—one to rebuild his lip with skin grafts—Will has been eating through a tube and talking is a bit of a trial. He'll be out of NJ hospital this arvo. I'm sure a few words of support wouldn't go amiss: cheng.william@gmail.com
Anyone not racing (or post race) on Saturday up for Piermont?
I'll be workin geometry exam prep on Saturday (an endurance feat in itself) but am hoping to get in a solid ride on Sunday. For those not racing Bear Mountain, lets go!
If I can get permission from the boss, I was hoping to get a ride in Sunday morning as well. I can’t go too long, but I’ll tag along for a bit.
@Will Kalbacker I'm up for a Piermont ride tomorrow morning

edit: just realized I responded to a long message

I'm planning on a long ride "toward" Piermont Sunday morning.

The two caveats are that I can only be out for 3 hours and need to be home before 11:00a. So, I likely won't make it all the way to Piermont from Windsor Terrace, but I'll be riding along that route until I need to turn back.

I'm going to head out from my place no later than 7:00a which should put me at the Brooklyn Bridge at 7:30a.
Planning a River Rd ride tomorrow morning. Looking to leave from GWB around 9am. Looks like the majority of people are racing or riding on Sunday instead. Hit me up on slack if you want to ride tomorrow.
John, you've just described what has been know here over the years as the "family man's ride".

BTW, if you leave at 6:00 you could make it to Piermont.....
I’ll rephrase, anyone want to do a “family man ride” early tomorrow morning?
Looks like things will be pretty slimy out. I might hold out to see how the weather it. I’ll post on slack tomorrow if I’m heading out!
I am headed to Red Beard on Saturday to pick up my clothing order. If the weather holds, I was thinking of getting there a few hours before they open and ride over to Prospect Park and do some easy laps. Figure sometime between 8:30 and 9:00ish. I would not mind some company if anyone is available.
Brooklyn Half is on Saturday and goes through the park so it prob won’t be open
The park should be open and cleared by about 10:30 am Saturday.
And GFNY is Sunday, so no River Road.
