Ahhh, Norm! Don't let the windy cold keep you away. Finding just the right gloves for the temp can be tricky--they're always too thin or too thick it seems. I've been known to bring an extra set, so when one pair gets sweaty cold, I've got a dry pair in reserve.

I always felt uneasy riding that segment of Union Turnpike. On Fri afternoon, as school was getting out, essentially had to stare down a driver coming out of the same exit lane. Of course, he made a point of speeding around me, so he could be the first one at the next red light. The only alternative around that stretch would be to loop around past the golf course, but the descent past the Douglaston shopping mall is just as bad.

Norm--I wonder if antiperspirant on the hands would keep those sweat glands under control? I know they often recommend, for heavy underarm sweaters, to put it on the night before. And there's pharmaceutical grade antiperspirant too.

Today I wore standard ski gloves and while they got wet on the inside after I sweated, my hands still stayed warm throughout the ride.

I also wonder, if maybe a wicking glove liner worn underneath gloves would help keep your fingers comfortable?

Nice ride today. Marc, William, Gideon, Dan, William's buddy Dave, Andy and another fellow who's name I'm forgetting (sorry!) and me. We split up at the Piermont turnoff and some of us went to get coffee and warm our extremities while others pressed on north. On the way back on 9W our smaller group worked a rotating pace line and there were a couple of lead-out sprints. Good times.

Haha, yeah, I am the forgotten. Today was good... cold at first, but on the way back from Rockland Lake the temperature was surprisingly nice. I'm definitely gonna try to make it out next Sunday too. See you guys then.

Next Sunday Kissena ride will be more interesting. We will be practicing some sprints and leadouts on the Rockleigh course, just to get a little more pratice. We will be offering prizes at certain points in the ride. So this is a chance for you to meet your teammates, practice winning races, get some quality miles, and pick up a sweet prize. Not too bad for a Sunday morning.

8AM roll out from Brooklyn Bridge, 9AM from the NJ side of the GWB.

We're looking at the weather for this weekend Sunday Kissena Ride, and considering Sunday is looking like it is going to be snowy all night, and raining all day it does not look like a great day to take the whole team out, because:

A) Riding in wet snow sucks
People know A, and choose not to ride

So what do people think of switching the days, and riding on Saturday? We're projected to have drier weather, and better road conditions for doing the practicing we want to do.

How do you all feel about this?

I personally would prefer to ride on the day predicted with better weather....BUT, because us mentors and the club officers have been giving you the "hard-sell" on Sunday for a long time now--understand scheduling group rides around your busy lives can be tough--if even one person wants to stick with the original plan, or wants to ride on Sunday regardless, I will be there.

I would prefer Saturday for personal reasons, but the weather reports I'm seeing are very inconclusive. Any pilots on the team who can read the forecast better?

I think I can make it either day. However, we're talking about 30% chance of rain, and currently predicted for saturday night into Sunday morning.

it isn't the 30% for 9AM for rain. The challenge is the 50% chance of snow from 12 - 7AM Sunday morning. which will make riding on Sunday challenging.

(revised - I am in for either day or both days even - if we all decide to be tough guys (and gals) and ride through the snow Sunday - I am game for it).

So it looks like there's appetite for both Saturday and Sunday, but there seems to be a greater demand for switching the big ride to Saturday to take advantage of better weather.

Lets switch the big Kissena ride to Saturday where we have better weather to focus on some of the drills, and skills we were intending to spend time on out of the rain and on drier pavement.

Marc has said he's going to go out both days (see this is what a season is Belgium does to you, any weather is riding weather). So if you can't change your date, or you just need to feel like a flahute, this Sunday is your chance to talk about the gutters of Belgium, while riding in a cold rain.

So I look forward to seeing you all out Tomorrow Saturday, 8AM at the Brooklyn Bridge, and 9AM at the Jersey side of the GWB, for Kissena Saturday Ride Extravaganza. Bring fenders either day, because it will still probably be damp on Saturday morning.

Jeffrey, as a (retired, although not pro) pilot, I can tell you we usually check the weather just before flying. I tend to do the same when riding. BTW, I like to check the wind velocity and other data at:
