Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

What kind of car was the rtard driving? seems eerily similar to a 9W experience of my own last year- fat idiot, the exchange of insults, photos of his car and all...

green range rover. mortified child or wife in the front seat.
Saturday was fun, the ride started with a big group that split after bradley when stokes, owens and perlberg bailed to go to runcible spoon in nyack without telling a soul only to find out via text 15mins later what the deal was. The action ahead was such that Joe is now the proud owner of he jawbone and he deserves it after putting in some fierce attacks and withholding a mine for a bid to the top in the last meters.

I have to disagree with your statement that we bailed without telling a soul.

stokes jeff and I were a little behind. by the time we got to the stop sign after the climb, we could not see anyone. we waited around, made a few phone calls, and rode towards nyack. we figured you guys would not go straight because that road led to Piermont Village which we had just found out was totally closed to cycling traffic. also, we had discussed heading to the Runcible Spoon so that was our logical guess. also, every group ride I've ever been on has regrouped at that stop sign. so yeah, not our fault. ryan announced that the jawbone would be up for grabs on Bradley, not some other climb.

In retrospect I suppose you're right. I didn't even think about turning left since every time I've ridden up this climb, I've always gone straight...also, Ryan had mentioned Nike lane before so i didn't even think twice but with the closures and all it would have made sense to turn left- oh well.
I think the ride was so big and the weirdness of the day just threw everything off kilter. I don't know why we didn't wait at the stop sign, it didn't occur to any of us, apparently. I think maybe a couple people started riding and the others just followed blindly up the hill without thinking about it.

Yeah, as Mike said, every ride I've ever been on we've waited at the crossroads.  Believe me, we were equally annoyed at the situation and were only going by the prior discussions of Nyack/Spoon after our attempted calls/texts weren't picked up.

Anyway, it's really not a huge deal b/c we're all experienced big boys and it wasn't so cold that people were really freezing trying to find other guys.

But I do think this is a good opportunity to remind people that they are responsible for the rider behind them, unless otherwise stated.  This generally keeps the group from splintering and guys getting lost or dropped that may not be so experienced/knowledgeable of the areas we're riding in.

This is a TEACHABLE MOMENT!
I wasn't annoyed. I just wanted a muffin and that meant TURN LEFT.

We got to meet the mayor of Nyack! And all the disaster recovery guys were nice to us.
Not so the agro driver of the green jeep. I think he may have been having trouble finding gas.
Me and Ryan (not Johnston) rolled out on the traditional ride this morning.

All was clear until we passed Sparkill.  The road past the cemetery was closed, so we rode to 303, and then made the right.  There, too, closed.   So we took 303 past the diner for the traditional right.  Atop the hill, we couldn't fork left to go to Mountainview, so we rode around the college.  Mountainview, 9W were fine.  We figured we'd ride 9W all the way home.

this is where the weirdness began.  The road was closed at the first intersection south of Nyack college, so we detoured there, the rail trail had a tree blocking it, and we turned to go back to 9W.  Again passed a closed entry to the railtrail.  At 9W, we were directed up Old Mountain.  So we took it.  Climbed up, left onto Tweed, back down to 9W.  Where we were directed down to Piermont.  Then, when we wanted to make teh left up to 9W at 304, that, too was closed.  Finally got back to 9W at Palisades, NY.

Good thing we didn't take the Sage Road extension for a little quiet.  That, too, was blocked.  The cyclists I met who tried it were told by the police to walk 100 meters past fallen trees and lines.

Condon, I thought you said 9W was clear!
@JP-Saw you ride past Strictly Bikes while I was there peeing on the way up.  I met Ryan (I thought it was "Brian" but I thnk my hearing is going) in the parking lot.  FWIW, by the time I headed up, the route to Sage was still detoured, but not a big deal, and then 9W was clear all the way up to Piermont.

Sorry, we just went to Piermont. 9W was clear to there.
Who is riding tomorrow?

yea im down, i might go to bear if i can find ppl who are interested.
What time tomorrow?
usual ride times are 8am at the brooklyn bridge and 9am at the george washington- but lets see what ppl have in mind...
I'm up for a shorter ride on Saturday.
I'm in for a ride tomorrow. I can't go all the way to Bear because, frankly, I physically cannot ride that far. Just looking for a steady four hours or so.
I'm down and usual times work for me
I think I'm in to sparkill and back.
All being well I'll be able to join tomorrow.  I have never been on a Kissena weekend ride before and will likely meet at the Brooklyn Bridge... but whereabouts on/at the bridge exactly?  Thanks.
Sunday Sunday Sunday...who's going out Sunday. I've not been on a Kissena ride in so long, I may have forgotten how to get to GWB so I need some help.

Who's in?
I think I'm in for Sunday. I haven't been on a true ride in what feels like forever, especially since my brother challenged me to a Thanksgiving Day 5k, and I refuse to let him beat me.
I would like to go to Sparkill and never come back. Have to put nose to grindstone tomorrow. Will miss you.
I'm in for Sunday rather than tomorrow. I am selling music stuff on Craigslist(so I can buy bike gear) and tomorrow is the best day for prospective customers

Sunday it's supposed be sunny with a high of 60.

I'm in for tomorrow (sat) 8am Brooklyn bridge.
Where in the brooklyn bride will we meet? by tillary Street
We meet just inside the Brooklyn entrance of the Brooklyn Bridge.
Great ride today the longest I ever done 42.89 miles but my ass hurts and I made it home.
I'm down for tomorrow.  I volunteer to once again be the caboose.
