Cracker day for the Sunday ride. New recruit Rick Perner, Adam Fabian, Cap'n Dan and myself. Dan took stateline (my crank was falling off). Maple bacon donuts and an 8mm Allen wrench cured all our maladies—thanks Mattie!
Utter traffic jam on the GW... please ensure you unclip 2 minutes before the u-bend and come to a full stop.
4 man jam today with me, Whitey, Mark, and Rick. That part of River Road just before the boat basin is still pretty jacked up. Unless you're training for Battenkill, I would suggest avoiding it.
Good times indeed. jP took us through a double super secret wormhole; once on the other side none were entirely sure what state or nation we were in; a late stop for man sized muffin saved me, although as JP said, "it's not till after 60 miles when the bacon starts to kick in."
Whitey killed all on the final uphill sprint; dominating from the bottom.
It was awesome to see RoboStearns back in the saddle. Not sure the machine pistol he wore on his hip was entirely necessary, but hey we *were* riding through Jersey...
Didn't make it today, exhausted from clinicals yesterday. BUT, shooting for the annual thanksgiving ride to Bear Mtn. Which will take me 10 hours in the shape I'm in...
If it's not slated to be hammer time for the varsity squad, this frosh would like to attend the Turkey Day festivities. No worries if the plan was for lettermen only. I'll be out there either way
I rode River Road again today. While it was still a mess at points it was a bit clearer overall with fewer big branches There was a lot more cyclist and pedestrian traffic.
JP took us to places where we didn't even recognize the town names on the direction signs. 2 miles to State Line? Like, the sprint? Is that a town? 4 miles to Wyckoff -- wtf are we back in Brooklyn?! There were multiple hours when the rest of us didn't even know what state we were in. If Jules hadn't brought the Lim rice cakes I think there would have been casualties. Good times.
I hesitate to reveal JP's secret sauce, but here's where Garmin says we went: http://tpks.ws/PlB3
Rick, there is no varsity squad here. Pretty much no matter who you are there will be guys on the ride who are "making you faster."
Show up and there will be team riding for all; we might split into a couple groups or some folks might bail out at various junctures along the way. We're not always perfect about it, but we try to make rides fruitful for members of all levels of fitness. And besides, you can hang just fine.
