I am planning to be at BB at 8AM, as I believe is Mr, Stearns. I will go up to a light drizzle. Anything heavier and I melt. (Do not wait for me.) I know Messr. J. White mentioned a few days ago that he might head out on the morrrow as well, but I have neither heard nor seen anything recent from him on the subject.

Depending on the nighttime kid shenanigans I might head out to PP for a few laps on my trusty CX, er Rain bike apres the breakfast. Unless it is really shitting out. Then I'll just help myself to another pancake and call it good.

We started out big (Ed, Malcolmson, Patrick, Whitey), but by Blauvelt it was down to me and Vlad for the ride out to Valley Cottage. Once there, we turned for Rockland Lake. In Rockland Lake, we headed for the dirt path along the Hudson. I figured if there had been fallen trees, the park probably cleared them by now. From there, we'd go to the nyack-piermont rail trail. something different, possibly Battenkill prep.

I hadn't accounted that a 10' storm surge overwhelmed a path 5' above the Hudson. The path was chock full of big, loose, sharp rocks and the non-rocky sections were covered in loose silt. THere was the occasional rotted log and oddly-placed picnic table. Vlad crashed a few times and broke a rear spoke. (yes, nice guy that I am) On a low spoke count wheel, that made riding nearly impossible.

We called Mattie, but Piermont Bicycle Connection was slammed. So then called Toga and they had a guy meet us at the park entrance. They took him to the shop and loaned him a wheel for the ride home. They didn't know how to fix his wheel (not a good sign).

Vlad and I skipped the second dirt sector, because we were running late. We passed a group on 9W that we dragged along for a while and then I didn't realize Vlad flatted out (great day he had).

Good times were had. Really. Beautiful day, great riding. A few problems along the way.

I was hoping for a long day in the saddle and that's what I got. JP's odyssey's are are the best!

Toga picked me up in their van, gave me a brownie, and when they didn't have the Shimano spoke on hand, promptly gave me a (powertap!!) rental wheel for my ride home and told me that my wheel would be at Gotham bikes by 2pm Monday. They just asked for my name and phone number (no $$$). I call that exceptional service, especially when you're pretty much stranded out there.

I called Gotham today and they're going to have to order the spoke. Hopefully, it should be ready to pick up by Thursday. I'm tempted to bring the powertap wheel out for the computrainer session.

There was a bit of a disconnect between the Nyack shop and Gotham. I had to explain my situation to Gotham. Nyack didn't do a good job of filling them in and Mitch at Gotham was a bit irked by that, but not at me or the situation.

I'm really grateful to know that I have this option available to me if I get stuck out there again. Spread the word.

I'll post this on the weekday group ride slot as well.

Tradition is tradition and New Year's day means a death march in the cold on a bike for Kissena members and whoever else gets wind of the ride.
I'm thinking it will be 10am at GWB but nothing set just yet.
I built my race bike for 2013 yesterday. I guess I actually have to race now so I guess I should actually train.

@Keith, I'm up for the ride on the 1st, but I need to be in Jersey City around 1ish that afternoon. Depending on how long you want to go, how about 9am at GWB?

Daniel, don't know if you made it out there.

It took me 12 minutes to cross the GWB. Keith was waiting. Both of us had a nasty, slip-slidey time getting across. We decided to play it safe and ride 9W north. Pretty decent, very few cars on the road. no cyclists. Maybe 8 or 10 cars passed us between the GWB and the Tappan Zee. We rode up to Nyack, turned around, and decided to take the low road home. Bad decision. Much of it was little more than two lines cleared by tires. The wind was pretty fierce and switching direction pretty regularly. On the way back, most of the GWB was rideable, though the section they hadn't plowed, on the NY side, was still un-rideable, and less fun with the tailwind we seemed to have.

I rode with Keith to Midtown, and then took Central Park home. Which was fine.

I expect the GWB will be good by Tuesday. Most roads should be fine tomorrow..
