Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

30 and sunny yo...beautiful riding weather. I'll be out and since Sunday will likely be traditional Kissena group ride route, I'm planning on doing one of JPs secret inland Jersey rides. I think it ends up being about 4 hours, but I'll double check with him...usually when I do it solo, I go so slow so my timing may be off.

P.S. For newish riders to the Kissena group ride scene...these winter rides are a good time to get to know your teammates, and ask the mentors any questions you may have. Of course there's a wealth of knowledge on the team, but the mentors are old like dirt and a few of us have been racing since down-tube shifters, have euro and NRC racing experience, coaching licenses, good at name-dropping, etc, blah, blah, blah. JP, Marc, Myles, Ragot.
@dstearns ... I'm a definite for tomorrow.
I've got to be back in Soho a little before 10 to work some tomorrow. If anyone's down I'm aiming for 8AM GWB for a quick loop of River Rd.

Tomorrow 9am at the GWB we have:
Me
Stokes
WDC
Mark C.
Marc?
Stearns?

It's gonne be chilly, so as usual with winter rides not a whole lot of standing around waiting.
I am still planning to be there. Probably NOT 4 hr from GWB for me though. Maybe I will wear my rat traps for old time sake.
I'm good for Sunday
Hey fellas - sorry for last minute. I'm out - sick kid kept me up, I'm spent. Park for me today. Looks like a great day, too....cold but sunny-ish.

sorry dudes

i aint going to make this

please dont wait for me
I'm out too...baby stuff this a.m. will try to get out later. blurg. sorry.

We had a nice group - Stokes, Mark, Keith, Jeff and Ed.  Keith took us on a lowroad route that was almost completely unfamiliar to the rest of us.  I kept imagining him diabolically losing us, leaving us to diddle with our GPSs in the cold, wondering where on God's green earth we were.

Actually Keith is pretty good about trying to orient you in relation to familiar routes as you go.  When we hit 303 I knew exactly where we were.  We came back through Nyack the usual way.  Thanks Cub Scout Leader!
My only child disturbance was waking up in the middle of the night and checking to see if they were home yet. Not yet? Oh well, back to sleep.

We had a nice group and Keith took us on a nice loop around the reservoirs to the north end of Nyack. Then back through Piermont for a quick coffee. Predictably, the group splintered over state line hill. I stopped to wait for stragglers at the Japanese Restaurant and was somewhat miffed that the front runners were not. Oh well, perhaps they had schedules to keep. In principle, our rides should be no drop, meaning stop for a minute or two to regroup at the top the hill. The reason for this tradition was manifest on my way down the west side bike path, where I encountered Mark C on his own WALKING his bike. The problem was a large number of broken spokes caused by a tangle with some Fredette near the Intrepid. Things would have been different had the group stayed together. Different in a good way.
Live and learn
Sorry about splintering. I was out a lot longer than expected and needed to get home so decided to hammer back with Tito since there were four back.

Your point is well taken though and a good policy to follow. Won't happen again.
@mugwump, I'll come out tomorrow morning. 8am at the BB for the 9am GWB link up.
@vlad I'll be on the BB at 8AM tommorow.
I'll be in for some group ride action on Sunday.
Im in for sunday as well.
me too but don't wait for my lame ass if I'm not there
Agreed Dave.  I was on a promise to meet at a friend at the New Members Ride for 1pm at PP.  A promise, as it turns out, that was worth nothing.  So a bad result all round, though not sure whether being in a group would have prevented it.  A Fred's a Fred, after all.

In the cab home I forgot to turn off my Garmin, the upshot being that Strava thought I clocked the fastest time across Manhattan Bridge by about 1.5 minutes.  Eat that, bitches.

P.S. I deleted the ride, before anyone reports me.
I'm hoping to get out Sunday morning, anybody else?
Sound like me vlad thierry jp and maybe neil for sunday.
I'll be at BB at 8am ,sorry I won't be in uniform ,but looking forward to it
I'm also going to be at the BB at 8. Have to be back by noon though, so might have to leave the group early into the ride.
Maybe for Sunday.
@mark I used strava to log my flight from Portland ME to NYC. It had trouble with the elevation.
I'm in
I'll be at BB Sunday!
13 of us today! Not a bad showing for a 1st weekend in January ride.

Many Thanks to the dozen teammates who took it in turns to tow me to Piermont and back !!
Good group ride action. Would have liked to see the group get a little more single-filey on the low road into Piermont when cars are trying to pass on narrow roads. We split at Piermont. JP, Vlad, Aly, Andy and I went further north to Rockland lake. On the way back, I got bonker-rific and JP, Andy and Vlad hooked me up with bars and gels so I could ride home and not fall off my bike.

Which is a friendly reminder to consider your diet needs this winter. I don't necessarily want to revive the "you need more calories in the winter" discussion/argument, but I would say err on the side of bringing too much food until you kind of get your own personal dietary needs dialed in. I started the ride with a bar and a bag of power gels. Clearly not enough for me.

Anyway thanks for waiting up for me a bunch and hooking me up with extra food stuffs. Looking forward to some more group rides next week!
yea good ride today, glad i mustered the energy to straddle my bike this morning, nice scenic ride- sun was out in full force and temperatures were ideal. We did some good pacelining back on 9w. Am looking fwd to more of this with the veterans!
