Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

Heading out to BB now, see you all soon.

What a great ride with everyone today. My computer shows 78 miles r/t from my place (Av. C/East 7th BK) to Piermont, via Bradley on the way up. I wish my Garmin wristwatch didn't die, then I'd be able to study that maze of turns that we took. Kayt was awesome on her first long ride, and this was ride #6 for me. Thanks everyone for the great paceline practice, see you next week.
Agreed, Bradley was a sweet climb. My strava app crashed unfortunately, id love to do that again if i could remember the way
You'll get to know it well enough.

My God, look how great my legs look!

Great ride out there, everyone.  I'm exhausted, actually have a sunburn on my wrists, and had a lot of fun.  Edwin and Wes smoked me on Bradley!  Nice climbing, gents.

Cross posted from the "Mentoring Thread." A reminder about the criterium racing skills and drills workshop...

Okay folks, seeing as how folks are either "the date doesn't matter" or I could do it on the 18th, but not the 19th, lets change the date of the crit racing workshop to Saturday May 18th. Jersey side of the GWB at 9am.

Scroll up on this thread to read more about what I have planned, but I want to encourage riders to come out, even if they don't think they will ever race a crit. We're going to be working on a lot of bike handling basics, drilling tough corners over and over and over again. There will be a short intramural crit at the end of the session for bragging rights and hopefully some Ride Brooklyn gift cards.

For those of you who have come to my crit workshop in the past, I promise a couple of new drills that should spice things up, including my super-mini criterium of death (It's going to be sort of like the bike version of those circus motorcycle globes of death).

Can I get a general head-count of who thinks they will come?
Brooklyn Half is the 18th so heads up if that changes your travel plans.

That sounds great but my significant other is running the BK half and I need to be present for that.
Heading out Sunday at more of a "family man" hour (6:30 am @ BB) if anyone's interested. Piermont-ish and back - need to be back in the Slope around 10:30/11. Holla if you're interested.

Yes, by popular demand, Saturday the 18th. The "workshop" portion of the day will end at roughly 11 am, giving you 1 hour to stroll back to the Jersey side of the GWB by noon.

You are also welcome to come for part and leave at anytime.

Also, for folks who don't like their routine Saturday training interrupted, keep in mind that we are riding essentially the group ride route to Rockleigh, just south of Piermont at "warm-up" tempo, take a few tricky descents/turns along the way, workshop/handling stuff for 1 hour on the Rockleigh crit course, and then you are free to finish out the ride anyway you want. So, really, effectively, I'm only stealing 1 hour of your time, if for example you were planning on riding over the GWB on Saturday anyway!

David - I am tentatively in; will know better Saturday.
Aaron - I hope to be back in Brooklyn by 1:00 or 1:30 so I'll bet you can make it to SoHo by 1:00.
Aaron, if I make it out I need to try to be back into brooklyn pretty early as well, so we can head out together.
My current plan (until shot down by my wife) is to go to the crit workshop Saturday and do the family man ride on Sunday. See you soon.
MarcB,
need to change Crit Clinic on KCC calander from Sunday19 to Saturday18.

Isn't the Grand Fondo this sunday?

holy schnikeys, you're right.  they are gathering on the GWB starting at 5 a.m.  and just found this on the twitter feed: "Route 9W will be closed northbound from Closter Dock Road to Alpine Approach Road from 7 am to 10 am." And this: "From 6:45am to approx 7:45 am, River Road north will be closed from Route 5 to the Fort Lee border. Hudson Terrace at the Fort Lee border will be closed from 7:45am to approximately 5:30pm."

We probably get around this if we do the traditional Kissena route - but anyone know if the GWB bike path is closed as well? Or just the main roadway?
It would be somewhat ironic of the GF prevented everyone else from riding bikes across the GWB. The message being: join us ($$$) or stay home.

There is a nice route down main St in fort Lee that avoids their route entirely. Go south from GWB and take the second right onto Main St and then another right onto Jones Rd. I'm sure Marc knows it.

Damn, I was planning Alpine repeats on Sunday. Is this not possible now? I imagine they'll be through there by 9am. Hopefully. In terms of the bridge I know they start on the lower platform which they close off tomtraffic so the bike path should be fine.

If the GWB is open for regular business on Sunday, I'll be there at 9am to make sure folks want to get where they usually go. My personal plan is to ride for about 4.5 hours inland jersey...one of JPs secret routes...at an easy pace, and any and all company is welcome, but I'll go far enough with the group to make sure they make the right turns to get them to Piermont/Nyack while avoiding the usual roads for the first 5 or so miles.
Would love to get out to the Triangle Ride tomorrow morning. Anyone want to drive me???
@Jeff - I did the NY fondo last year, but got to the start late at 7:15.  I was on the tail end by then, and river road was fully open to anyone at that point.  I bet you won't even see any NYGF riders by 9am.
I'm going to the crit workshop tomorrow (Saturday) so need to be at the GWB at 9.  I'll be at the BB at 8am.  Who's joining me for the ride up?

bvs
