Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

Congrats Ryan - beastly times for all 3 of you.
Good job Ryan!

I fell over on my solo group ride to the watertower.  I can sense your concern.  Don't worry I'm fine. I was going ZERO mph. It was on the 360 GW turn on way back when there was a total jam up of folk and I decided to unclip like everyone else.  Except it didn't happen...Fortunately of the 10,000 I've gone over the GW and never done that, this time our fellow racers from FGX and BH were able to witness my demonstration of fredliness.  THERE WAS CLEARLY SOMETHING IN THE ROAD!

I'll reenact it next week for you.
XOXOXO

Kinda interesting to see what people did. There are some usual suspects in here (Dobes, Van Winkle, Olsen, etc). Overall, I'm pretty happy. Mainly because while most times were slower, I went 9 seconds faster than I did last June.

Wow.  Folks are fast.  Ryan would have had 2nd in the 1-2's with his time, only to lose the spot to a Cat 5... damn.  Was there wind?
There was a breeze from the south, but I can't imagine it helped much on that climb, which starts towards the south and then has a rock face on the left side  most of the way up. One might imagine a slight boost on the finishing stretch.
Yeah, there are some great times...remember too that they're starting it maybe 15-20 feet before the pavement change, and it doesn't end until well after it flattens out on top. The finish is about midway through the grassy patch on the right just before the ranger station.

That said, these times are in general actually much slower than last year's TT in June. This is one of the reasons I was pretty happy, I improved my time by 9 seconds.

Damn Ryan, under 5min is awesome. Do I dare ask what your average wattage was?

I don't actually know - my Quarq is off for repair. And, I'm having the increasingly common Garmin HR strap issues. So I had no power or HR - this one was all on feel.

Our ride up to Piermont yesterday was awesome, I clocked 71 miles r/t from my apartment. We got in climbing on River Road, then I was taught how to paceline on the way back. You guys definitely helped me break that 20 MPH barrier that I described last week, and I felt great about it yesterday. Thanks to Jeff and everyone else.

Only thing is...I can't deal with the city on weekend afternoons, so my standard route home from now on will be to cut across 58th and take the Q'Boro Bridge, then head down through Greenpoint and W'burg along Kent. Anyone who wants to join me, totally welcome.

And congrats on your finish Ryan. Richard Scudney is actually an acquaintance of mine from years ago...I'm told that he is an excellent racer so I'm sure being a mere two seconds behind him is no small feat.

Great job Ryan.

Related to group ride thread, I went out Saturday for a late-afternoon Ash-Tweed-Nyack ride.  Felt sluggish at first, but managed to clock a 5.17 on Alpine - not so great, but WAY better than I was doing a few weeks ago. A sign that fitness is coming back.
not sure who's racing this weekend, or what's cooking for sunday.  hopefully will see a few peeps out for the traditional group ride over the GWB.....8 am BB, 9 am GWB....holla if you'll be out....or if there are other plans.....i haven't been out in TOO long so looking forward to a nice day in the saddle....piermont and back for me......
Adam and I are planning to drive up to Bear mtn on Saturday to do ~100km hilly training.

The idea is to leave manhattan around 7am and be back mid day.

We have one extra spot in my car; any takers? We can also meet people there that use their own car or train.

Sunday slow ride.
9am roll-out, 4 hours bridge to bridge. EASY EASY EASY. Inland Jersey ride with some fun climbs. Give me a shout-out here if you think this is a ride you want to join. If I don't hear from anyone, then I may leave a little later than 9.
Marc: 9 am from GWB?  I know Neil, Jules and I are planning to roll from Brooklyn Bridge at 8.  I need to be home by noon-ish so maybe we'll join for some of your slow motion potion.
Planning to join the 8a BB ride.
I'm doing a super-early ride tomorrow. 6am from BB, up to Market probably via River Road. Need to be back in the city for 9:30/10. Holla if you want to get up and out at an ungodly hour.
Clifford, I'll try to make it.
OR........

90 mile hammefest lose 10 pounds and throw up a bit.

Also, I did NOT fall over on the GW today for no apparent reason.  I'll try again tomorrow.
