EDIT - Got it. Don't think I'm gonna make it. I remember the days of the underground crit running at 11pm or was it midnight? So mainstream these days.

Hey good luck to all Kissenas racing tonight! I realize that this is sort of besides the point, or even entirely besides the point, but I think it would be double awesome if Trimble added a traditional geared category race. (says the guy who wishes there were more real crits out here.)

Vollbach gets the #hardman and #dumbass awards for tonight. Broke his c-bone in the prelims, THEN put in his fastest lap time, then raced; I think he managed to say away fro the time cut in the end.

The chunk of knee skin that he left on the pave was big enough to feed a small family of carnivorous Voles (get it, Voll-bach, Voles?)

Tough as nails that dude...

"Voles" by the way, are a small rodent that used to be indiginous to the isle of Manahatta as the Native Americans used to call it. Way back it ye super olden tymes, when we were filled with trees and underground streams instead of buildings and subways. You're welcome.

Looking forward to the race reports. Just now still trying to wrap my head around the whole Red Hook around the world scene. It's kind of blowing my mind. How does just a regular dude, who used to punk around in a Kissena kit, organize not only two races (without being a member of Marty Markowitz's inner circle RCS or Unipublic) on the actual streets of Brooklyn (land where homeowners spend ridiculous amounts of money and time fighting bike lanes), but in frick'n Milan and Barcelona too? Plus, have money/clout to fly Euros here, Americans there. Plus get super hot Olympic track medalists to show up? Plus have an app for his race? An app? Who has an app for there races? Also wondering how the hell I never heard of Austin Horse and the supposedly "biggest race in NYC, Monstertrack?"

Okay, I think I need to go watch that Anti-anti Kissena kit video again. Because while that still kind of wierds me out, at least I kind of understand what happened there.

(Any chance we could get Trimble and his bizarro-voodoo-world super powers to team up with Myles and get a cross race to happen in actual NYC?)

just a minor clarification Marc - the race is not actually on the streets of Brooklyn. It's in a parking lot.

Neil Bezdek and Evan Murphy were there to get it done. They drove that race, but Bezdek raced smarter and wasn't as active on/off the front. I guess that's what it took to win. I don't know who the guy who rounded out the podium is (Walton Brush, MASH bro?).

Canandian Mike looked strong from the gun, often times on the front and usually in the mix, but he faded after 8 laps or so. A split happened after about 4-5 laps, and sadly Volbach and Mattie weren't there. Dave came oh so close to getting up there, but it looked so hard that I don't hold it against him (especially since he was racing with a freshly re-broken collar bone). If you weren't in that lead group, you were probably getting pulled. Both Dave and Mattie did look damn good out there. They repped pretty gosh darn hard you guys. Mattie rode it out for 33rd place.

Alan Rego and Tony Hall from Champ-Sys looked strong and were in the mix until the last lap when Bezdek and Evan hit overdrive. Later bros. It was a field sprint, but there was no doubt that it was going to be Neil's night. Al Barouh mixed it up early but faded hard. He wasn't there when the split happened. I was rooting for him.

I'm super impressed by how this event has grown and how Trimble has turned this novelty race into an internationally known event/series. The crowd was HUGE.

Word is there was a very big pileup at the u-turn that precipitated the Big Split.

Yeah didn't Mike get stuck behind the crash?

This race is crazy to watch because you see the group come around and you get all psyched that your guy is right in the mix, and then they come around again and he's not there anymore, and sometimes you never see him again, and you don't know what the hell happened!

Crazy to watch because so much of the action takes place far away and in the dark - the riders are constantly coming "out of the darkness" towards you or disappearing into the void...

Nice work Mattie and Dave. I thought that I saw maybe a third Kissena. If so, who was that? Was Dan Chabanov racing? If not, why not?

I just had a beer with Al, who told me about his race. Apparently, he was feeling fantastic, and then his chronic dry eye syndrom kicked in, and his eye's got so blurry that he lost most of his vision and pulled out. He's had this condition for a few years, which is why you often see him racing in "civilian" glasses, rather than contacts. Recently, he got proper prescription sports glasses, which help enough so that he can race fine in the day bit, but when it's dark and it kicks in, in he can't see well enough to ride safely.

Oh well!

i have no excuses... did not qualify but I need more practice riding track in a group like that. as well as backpedaling 85" into that corner is no joke after going full steam into it on that straight.. looking forward to the june 8 race with some more track group practice.

Brief race report from me. Qualified 44th, had an ok start, missed my clip, probably rolled through the first lap in 60th. Started to make my way up, I was having problems taking the hairpin, I'd usual lose a length or two there. I seemed to be faster then most through the terminal backside and chicane. Got caught behind the first hairpin crash which caused a split. Settled into a chase group with 6-7 guys, Keith, the other Stanridge rider, Alchemy guy, couple other, and Kacey. We didn't rotate very well, guys pulling too long, getting cooked and slowing the line up. So guys would attack from 3rd or 4th wheel which didn't help the surges. Hurt like a mother, everything felt like it was cramping by the end. With a few to go, the lead moto was getting scary close. Myself and few others started to ratchet it up and we shelled a few off the back of our group. We ended up being the last group to make the time cut, though I think technically we may have been off the lead lap. I got placed 33rd, first rider off the lead group.
