For Sale: FSA K-Force Carbon Seatpost 25mm Setback 27.2 dia/350mm
I bought this seatpost on ebay but haven't used it because I can't get the correct fore-aft position with it and my new saddle. The post is in pristine condition. The original seller took good care of it and claims he only used it for 6 months. I beleive him as it hardly looks used.
I originally got this saddle because it is well rated for its vibration dampening qualities. A velonews test gave it highest marks. I wouldn't normally put much stock in such an article, however I had two of the seatposts listed in the article (Ritchey WCS carbon and aluminum) that fell in the top third and bottom third of the vibration dampening tests. I rode the aluminum post one season and the carbon post the next. The difference over long rides and races was significant. (I did not change saddle, bike, wheels, tire brans or even typical tire inflation). I watched the 2010 Paris Roubaix the other day (while on the trainer) and noticed that Cancellara was using the same seatpost. I am disappointed that I couldn't get the fit right. If a sore butt is an issue for you and you have a 27.2 seat post diameter, you may want to try this out.

So, Jim's warehouse clearing sale of bikes got me thinking about cross equipment. Jim's one of the team's most experienced crossers and the fact that he's getting rid of a couple of pretty nice looking quality cross bikes, makes me wonder what, if anything, it says about the matching pair of Van Dessels (?) he was racing last season.

Ordinarily I curse my parents for my not being just a bit taller but looking at those offerings of Jim's I'm thinking the other way - if I was only just a bit shorter. Someone, especially if you've wanted to give either give cross a try or upgrade your current rig, should snap those up.

My clear out has more to do with the fact that I have 8 bikes in the basement right now. Which seems a little much given that I commute over 5 hours a day and ride the trainer in the basement exclusively during the week. Marc is right, I did "go deep" and buy 2 Stevens cross bikes last year, with which I am very happy. (Bikes, great: results not so much)
The cross bikes were postedbecause they are simply too nice to justify leaving them hanging in the basement without being ridden. I would rather see someone else get use out of them than horde them. I literally never rode them this past season. They carried me and my meager skills to 10th, 7th and 12th overall in the MAC 45 plus in the three years I used them. New carbon bikes netted only a tie for 17th, my worst to date. Getting to the wrong end of the age grouping is no fun. One more year and it's on to the 55's.
It's amazing how much stuff one can accumulate in over 30 years of road racing and 21 years of cross.

Some 52/36 chainrings (FSA). "Mid-compact". New. These have a BCD of 110mm.
This is a really great combination in my opinion (just have put this combo on my race bike), giving you essentially the big ring of a double with a much more practical 36T compared to a compact. Also, they are incredibly useful having the BCD of 110, which is that of compacts. That way, with the same crank arm you can run your super baby gears for the 2 days per year that you ride Devil's Kitchen and run a more park race-friendly 52T for all the other time. I got the rings on a crank (http://www.fullspeedahead.com/products/493/SL-K-Light-Compact-Crankset) on a new bike and simply took them straight off, never even rode them around the block.
The crank itself is supposed to have and MSRP of about $500 but you can regularly pick it up for $375-400 in not uncommon sales. WIth that in mind, I'd ask $125 for the pair.

A Praxis Works BB30 to Shimano converter (http://praxiscycles.com/pages/conversion). It is for a BB30 with a 68 mm shell.
This is an excellent bottom bracket, not a 'cup add-on' like the other BB30 solutions. It is essentially a Shimano bottom bracket (i.e. two cups that screw together with contained, sealed bearings). But, instead of needing a threaded bottom bracket this goes into a non-threaded BB30. The way it works is that the two cups screw together and as they do they not only clamp on the frame laterally but they expand (like expander plugs used for carbon steerers). So, no wiggle. This means that you can run any 24 mm Shimano crank in your BB30 frame. It's incredibly simple, you remove everything from the BB30 assembly (remove the bearings and the lock clips which hold those in place), screw in cups, job done. For all those who have annoying BB30 squeaks and creaking, this will help! They have loads of details on the site and even sponsor a pro team (I put the link above). This will work with any of the million Cannondale frames that the club is riding right now.
I bought this and simply installed it, before realising that my BB30 was 61, not 68mm!! There was a slight miscommunication with Praxis regarding that, long story.... As I'd installed it, I couldn't return it.
I paid $100 including tax and shipping. With that in mind would like to get $65 for it. In the pictures below the red grease that you can see is the original stuff from the manufacturer.
