Sold TRP R920 Brakeset. Lighter than Dura Ace. Most confident stopping power of any brakes I've ridden. The front was used on my street bike so it'll need new pads soon, but the rear is good for a thousand KM. Both cosmetically excellent. Titanium hardware!

I found a watch in Prospect Park Tuesday night (3-22). Pretty sure it belongs to a cyclist, and that he/she is pretty bummed about it. I still think their size chart is wacky as all heck as far as US/Euro conversion, but I went ahead and ordered my Euro size based on what I heard about how they compare to other brands. I don't know if you'll find this useful, but Lake sent this to me when I wrote them with a couple questions. Also this link http://www2.bsn.de/Cycling/shoe-sizing.html was semi useful.

thanks for the info. I've been really debating between the 44.5 and the 45, decided to go with the 44.5. My 5 year old lakes are Euro size 46 but the old sizes seem irrelevant. The BOA system gives a really nice snug fit, I'm excited to try it out on the road. We shall see.

I've got a 43 or 46cm Fuji Ace SE with 650 wheels--good for someone five feet tall give or take. and Shimano Tiagra parts. Triple crank with 165mm arms. Was planning on putting it on Craigslist. Haven't even tried pricing it yet. Low miles. You'll need pedals. I'd also recommend new tires, though the old ones will hold up for some time.

You're right. To be more specific, I am after something maybe 48-53cm, as my girlfriend si about 5'6" (nothing like mixing metric and imperial measurements in one sentence!!).

Thanks for the info on the Fuji. I think it might be a tad small however. Let me know if you decide at any point to sell parts individually.

Thinking about getting a Van Dessel Hellafaster or Cannondale CAAD 9 or 10 as a treat for myself once I come off the injured list. For the Hellafaster, was thinking I'd just get the frameset and build out the rest - mainly as I'd like to put on some better wheels than come with standard. Any thoughts on what might be the better bike for the buck between those 2? My plan was to go more frugal on the frame, get a solid but not extravagant groupset (Ultegra's or Rivals) and spend a few clams on some nice wheels.

Thanks in advance - I've been racing on a Bianchi 1885 alu hydro carbon (kindly nicknamed "Pokey") that I bought before the thought of racing ever entered my head. It's a great bike but much more suited to a fast century ride than a race. So, looking forward to something a bit lighter/stiffer/faster for my next trip up Meetinghouse Road.....

i've had both

the hellafaster is an incredibly stiff, race-oriented bike. it is perfect for park races. downsides: it is heavy for expensive aluminum and the geometry, especially the headtube height, is very aggressive (meaning low, in that example).

the caad9 is an incredibly stiff, race oriented bike, but it is significantly lighter and cheaper.

caad10 is "sposed" to be AWESOME - lighter, more comfortable, very stiff

i built up my hellafaster (54cm) with a rival group in a BB30 frame with a threaded adapter.

my caad9 (56cm) is about 3/4 a pound lighter with the same parts, save for a force crank and a bb30 bottom bracket.

be warned: both bikes are a bit harsh. battenkill/the dirt roads i love so much was not nice on either! if you want super plush, get a carbon bike or a steel bike. i rode/raced a reynolds 853 frame for 9 months last year and loved it, expect for the fact that it was too small. when my carbon-riding pals tried it, they felt it to be squishy and wiggly, but i never noticed that once i got used to it, and the ride was SUPERIOR!

I looked into pricing out frames and building up a bike. It is not cheap, and finding parts on the cheap might be a bit time consuming.

If you find a good deal your best be might be to go with the complete build. With the deal we get on Hellafasters I can't imagine you'll be able to build it better / cheaper. My guess is Edwin would be willing to negotiate some upgraded wheels as well. Just a hunch.

You can find some pretty good deals on Caad9 if you shop around at stores. I just bought the Caad9-1 Dura Ace for 2k, msrp 3k down at Roy's. I've been following Caad9 frames on ebay. Used you are looking at $450-700, new you are looking at $500-900. Without a warranty card (they are parted out frames). Prices in stores are around $800 for the Caad9 frame and 1k for the caad10 frame.

I've only ridden on the Caad9 once so far, so I don't have too many comments, except that it is AWESOME. Oh an now I have absolutely no excuses for not winning races.

Dave, if you're still off the bike next weekend, be sure to go down to Trexlertown to try and score some cheap(er) goods! I'll be there hunting out a wheelset as well.

I've been riding a Hellafaster for about a year now and really like it. On the other hand I don't have alot to compare it to. It's certainly snappier and feels faster than the early 90's vintage steel Colnago I was riding before. It feels fast and I always feel confident at speed, cornering, etc....

It's probably pretty close to perfect for the style and substance of riding I do, mainly high intensity training and shorter races. I've taken it on a few 90+ mile rides and felt a bit beat up afterwards but I'm sure some of that was the fact that I just don't have the time to ride long very often. But if I had more time to do long rides or was planning on doing alot of longer out of town races I would probably consider something with a plusher ride.

Edwin is very flexible with the builds, mixing and matching group sets as requested (mine is a mix of Rival and Force). He will also sell you a complete build minus wheels and adjust the price accordingly (that's what I did). He takes about 35% off whatever the overall retail cost would be (I think my Hellafaster was closer to 40% off) and I felt he did a nice job with the build. Plus he's a nice guy and I enjoy supporting a local business.

I think you and I are about the same size so I'd be happy to let you take mine out for a spin one morning if you want to get a feel for it.

3 or 4 yr old Ritchey Silhouette wheel set, black. 100$ These are heavy duty training or 'cross wheels. They were my training wheels, and are the toughest wheelset I have ever seen, still absolutely true (admittedly I don't train that much, so still low-ish miles). Rear might need bearings serviced in the next year or so.
