You know how I love these cold days. Alas, I have an appointment I can't reschedule. Crazy that I scheduled my rest week to coincide with this cold weather. Don't know what I was thinking.

Tomorrow (Fri) I'll be out for a freezing ride - 8am at GWB. I'm just doing Alpine, but come join if you're not skurrred.
That said, I'm only gonna wait until 8.05 before jetting.

Soft. All ye who hath not joined me for a 4-hour ride today into inland New Jersey are softees. The only bad thing about my ride is that I didn't get good beardcles. Too sunny me thinks. Started at 18 degrees at 11:15 warmed to 23 by 3:30.
Discovered a good use for a wind vest. Junk protector. Despite wearing fleece shorts, with long bib tights over them, the good stuff was still way too chilly. So I stuffed all it's plasticky goodness downtown and suddenly I was warm as...well, warm and toasty.

When I lived in Boston, I used to stuff an electric sock down my pants. I discovered that the battery sort of died when it got really cold, so I had to make sure the battery also stayed warm.

Aly and I did a noice longish ride today - low roads via route 505 - Knickerbocker Rd., then out past Rockland Lake and through Congers, by High Tor and back south through Nyack and 9W home. Aly can give a better cue sheet than that - he was leading us. Blustery all day, but nice riding weather otherwise and some peeks of sunshine throughout.
We crossed paths with Ariel and Gavi from ChampSys a couple of times - they were looking much sexier than us - and caught up with JP just before the bridge, who was out on an "easy noodle".

Roads looked terrible in the morning and we were both hesitant but weather changed and conditions became better as expected except maybe for the wind; motivation was def low at first and legs were sluggish and tired but made the best of it. We took Congers westwards and headed to Orchards before heading back on 9w the whole way apart from the bit btwn Nyack and Piermont that can get a little dodgy. After Piermont we took 30s/1min hard pulls all the way home, I don't know about him but that emptied out my tank and whatever was left of my legs after 4 hours of riding!

River Road is closed. It looked clear from the GWB, so I rode north on 9W to take River Road back. After descending the hill, both gates were locked and there was several inches of snow covering the road.

They sometimes only plow sections at a time. It's also clear up to the top of that first climb right now.

Provided the weather turns a bit better, I'm planning on doing a 4-hour inland Jersey ride around 1pm today, Wednesday. Hollar if you are interested in joining. Time is somewhat flexible, but I gotta wait at least until my mother-in-law arrives to watch Peter.

Marc (and all) - GWB sidewalks closed today, due to weather. It's a no-go.
In other news, if the weather turns nicer tomorrow I'll be joining a group from the shop to ride to Piermont along with the Capo rep. I'm expecting him to be VERY sexy. 9am-ish at GWB.

As of 2pm today, the bridge was open for bikes/peds....cold, wet, and foggy. Stayed closer to home due to late start and did double top secret Alpine climbs (10 minutes, more or less, of "up" within minutes of the GWB) and finished with RIver road in reverse. Nice day...for kind of not nice weather.
