Summit of Mount Diablo

Belated post of some photos from my June trip to the Sangre de Cristo mountains, the southernmost reach of the Rockies, where I did some mountain biking in two Santa Fe parks: La Tierra (photo 1) and Dale Ball (2, 3). La Tierra has MTB-only sections (as opposed to multi-use) which featured lots of short, nearly vertical descents into arroyos--some real belly-ticklers--followed by equally short, nearly as steep climbs out. Plus lots of gracefully banked turns, wooden features, and dirt jumps. I have no photos of them, so you'll just have to go out there and find out for yourself. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Even the "multi-use trails" seemed designed primarily with mountain biking in mind. 

My runner friend told me Dale Ball is a popular spot for local bipeds, though I didn't see another soul except for a fellow mountain biker, whom I met near the end of my ride. She had just moved to Santa Fe, and was getting in as much riding as she could in the days before she entered the nearby Zen center, where she would presumably empty herself of her attachments to an illusory world. If ever there were something that told me life isn't an illusion, cycling must be it. I entered the south side of the 22-mile network on my borrowed Yeti, and found rocks, rocks and more rocks--whether imposing shelves, busy gardens, or stones deposited by the intense afternoon thunderstorms into the bottom of an arroyo. I had to dust off some skills I hadn't used since a trip to Moab seven years ago. I rode a short counter-clockwise loop, 1h 15m. I wish I could have stayed longer but we had plans that day to hike in Bandelier National Monument and then sit in these hot springs which are tucked into a long red and green valley in the Jemez Mountains...

Had a great week in Vancouver , did a ride with a local rider up to cypress mountain , 14km climb, sadly the day I reserved the bike was the only wet day of the drip , so I didn't get the awesome views of the Pacific Ocean , but still amazing riding , Vancouver has an amazing backyard playground

Managed to borrow a bike from a great guy in mullingar west Meath outdoor escapes and get in a 4 hour ride on the quiet back roads 

One day I will ride somewhere other than my basement or 9W again. One day....

I hope to hear some of you all doing this...except skip telling us the the bits about Japanese toilet seats cleaning your neither regions.

I'm planning a bike packing trip that weekend and would use my cross bike.  You could use my Focus roadie.  54cm, Cayo.  I'll know early that week if the trip is a go, so hit me up Oct 11 or 12 and we can plan further.  I live in Crown Heights, very close to PPark.

Awesome!  I rented a fat bike today and yesterday to ride upstate NY in the snow.  They are awesome and much, much preferable to riding Zwift.  When the snow is deep and there aren't groomed trails, you need a fat bike to have an enjoyable off-road ride.  Riding the cross bike on the road is just nowhere near as fun...

My moonboots arrived yesterday so as soon as it gets over zero (a man's got to know his limitations!) I'm gonna take this puppy out for a spin.

Still amazed that in this city, there's enough traffic that you occasionally can't get a bike passed a car stopped at a light because of the parked cars + double-parked cars.  It doesn't seem right.  

Fat biking; proof that if you love the mud, you will find it. Even in the snow.
