BUMP

SupercrossCup is taking place NEXT weekend. It should be a blast. I encourage you to come whether you can volunteer or not.

Many of you have already committed to volunteering, but we still need help.

Please consider helping with:
a. setup Thursday or Friday - post on the forum if you need a ride
b. EARLY AM registration - You can crash at my mother's place in Piermont so you don't have to drive from NYC
c. Teardown Sunday night (5-8pm)

If you are driving and have room for a teammate please post to the forum. Same if you need a ride.

Don't forget that volunteers race for free and that there are bunch of cool raffle prizes including Van Dessel's Whiskey Tango Foxtrot framesets, and goodies from Stans no tubes, Clif etc.

Remember, this is Kissena's race. Let's make it awesome
Kissena Cyclocross Club Champs is scheduled for Sunday Nov 18th at 7:30 AM at SupercrossCup!

We've got a solid group of CX racers in the club this year, but rarely do we get to race together in the same field. Here is your chance to test your fitness against each other for fun and bragging rights.

Let's get some within club rivalry going! John Olsson and I are already registered. How about YOU?
One more thing: no reason that members can't race their man bikes during the CX club champs...

What do you say @RichardCornetta and @ErikPfiffner?

Maybe @twoyacks will show up with his "shame" bell

man bikes? - damn, now I also need a man bike for a full quiver?
We all know the only manly bike is a mountain bike. Everything else is for lycra wearing sissies
I can lend my Aloominator sized 52 for anyone who wants to try cyclocross at Supercross.
Apologies for the lack of communication as of late! I am fully committed to spend all day Saturday at SUPERCROSS.  I just need a ride and maybe a cross bike if anyone would be so kind.... @jim_nelson I'll take you up on that ride if there are still some free spots.

Erik - you are in. Remind me where you live and we can make arrangements.

Unfortunately I don't think my cross bike will fit you but like Patrick said, you can always race on a man bike!
What is a “man bike”? Not sure,  but you’d be the stuff is Supercross legend if you rode this “not-man” bike:

On a more serious note, Todd has offered Erik his CX bike to use. Erik - go register!
Awesome, awesome news. JUST REGISTERED @jim_nelson - I am on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.  Can meet you in BK if needed.
I'll be going through Manhattan so I can pick you up somewhere closer to you. Text me at 917.922.0812 when you get a minute and we'll make a plan.
Should we all show up in a costume or is that only for Erik? B)
everyone looking unicorn sharp!
just copying this over from the "Volunteer" thread!

I'm planning on heading up for teardown on Sunday. I will be driving from Brooklyn in the morning/ afternoon to check out the Pro/P1 field and then heading back to BK in the evening. Let me know if anyone wants to carpool.

If any one wants a ride to Supercross from Washington Heights/upper Manhattan, let me know.  Departure times from near the GWB will likely be 6:30 AM tomorrow, noon on Friday and 6:00 AM on Saturday and Sunday.

Very last minute - but if anyone has a spare set of SPD cleats / size 45 shoes for tomorrow that would be greatly appreciated!! Otherwise I’ll run in boots since it doesn’t look like we’ll be biking all that much...
Gonna be awesome. A race to remember.

there's so much to report, and yet somehow so little to say... for now I leave you all with this:

Mega kudos for all who volunteer for this great event under difficult weather conditions. It's not a small feat to put it all together. #kissenaproud
I posted a thank you to Supercross Volunteers in the Volunteer at Kissena Races thread

KISSENA needs YOUR help!

On Nov 16-17, Kissena will be sponsoring another edition of the Rockland County SupercrossCup. This is one of the best races in the Northeast and as we are the sponsoring club for this race, we need your HELP!

The success of this race depends upon our volunteers and KISSENA in particular. Once again I have taken on the role of volunteer coordinator and in the next few days, I will be emailing members that I know directly. If you haven't heard from me or responded, please reach out to me so we can coordinate your participation: livetoridebikes@gmail.com

There are a multitude of roles in which you could contribute whose time commitment could range from a few hours to all weekend. The amount of time is up to you. The more Kissena members we have pitching in the less there is a need for members to put in longer efforts.

People available for a few hours can help with registration, marshaling, course setup, tear down, or other similar tasks. Those with more time will fill roles as captains that will be in charge of a particular area (like the power wash area and nearby course crossings) and manage the volunteers assigned to that area.

Benefits:

  • Feel good putting on an awesome race
  • Have fun with your teammates and see what they look like without spandex and goofy orange helmets
  • Get your registration fee reimbursed if you are racing
  • Race in the Club CX champs
  • Get entered into one of several volunteer raffles. Raffle details will be finalized soon. In the past few years Max Thorn, Phil Maronilla and JP Partland have won Van Dessel CX bikes. Others won wheel sets, Silca tools and Nokia smart watches. Stay tuned
  • The more you volunteer the better your raffle chances

The race venue is less than 40 minutes from the GWB by car and JP has posted directions on how to get there via train (scroll up through this thread). Historically, team members have carpooled to the race, although some have shared cheap housing in the area. I will head up there Thursday and can host a few people at my mother's place in Piermont. Our greatest manpower needs are early in the morning on Saturday and Sunday (registration is swamped) and Sunday after 5pm. We also have a need for help with setup on Thursday or Friday. We are willing to accept any reasonable offer for help. The more people chip in the better for everyone.

If you want to sign up for one or two volunteer slots, use the volunteer sign up sheet here. Message me on Slack if you are available for a larger portion of the day (or multiple days) and might want to be a captain (no need to use the form). Either way, everyone is entered into the raffles etc. Also, consider helping with setup Thursday or Friday or tear down Sunday if you are available.

Post comments or questions on this thread or email me or text me at 516-987-6404 and I'll answer your questions.

Thanks!

Patrick

If anyone is available the weekend of Supercross, please please consider helping out. It is a wonderful experience and the event doesn't happen without fantastic, good-looking volunteers like  you. I can't recommend it enough!
Hi all! I'm hoping to attend/volunteer/race Supercross. If my work schedule allows (this will likely not be resolved until the week before the event) I'll be ripping it up with you guys. In the interest of what planning I can do, this is my inquiry into whether or not any of you kind individuals has a bike in the medium size range that I'd be able to borrow for what will be my very first cross race. I will pay you in eternal love, thanks, and beer.
Anyone with a car who is heading to SupercrossCup, please put in your offers to give members a ride here.

I'll start:

I am heading up to the venue on Thursday and will be staying in my mother's place in Piermont each night and heading back to LI Sunday night.

I can give someone a ride up Thursday. I can also offer a place to stay (Piermont is 25 min from RCC) if someone wants to stay over
I'm heading up early Sunday and can offer a ride to anyone who needs. I'm likely staying in Rockland to have dinner with my parents (still confirming with them) so I'm not sure I'll be able to offer a ride back into the city.
I'm going Friday all day , I'm bringing Brian , have room for 2 more ,leaving from Brooklyn
Would anyone have a bike I could borrow for this shin dig? I can provide a ride or better beers than what @Nathaniel Picard Busky is offering.

UPDATE: I'll provide beer AND cupcakes AND finance your first-born child's college education.
