Bicycle Pictures and Videos

Those cameras should be a part of every race.  I can't stop watching that video.  Degenkolb's acceleration makes my GoPro footage look like slow motion.

That said, I think GoPro has a higher quality image than those Shimano cameras.  They've got some work to do.

@Brendan what bitrate do you use for your youtube videos?
I'm not sure I even know what that is.  I believe bitrate on my camera is up to 35 Mbs.  I can look at the videos when I get home.  Yesterday's race is currently encoding.

What I do know is that I record at 30 fps (29.97 really) at 1080p.
From this morning's ride. That's Todd McLoughlin.

Gravity: not just a good idea, it's the law.

HOLY CRUD.
HOLY CRUD.

I think that qualifies as a truck-sized boulder.  That's an SUV peaking out on the left side of the picture.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format not-found
That boulder is the perfect size to crush Wiley Coyote into an accordion.

here is a example of my videos. I encoded using x264 at 20mbps at 1080p 60fps. It looks great on my computer but once its on youtube it looks terrible

My first question on seeing a pic of this was whether or not I could ride it.

I didn't mean AROUND it.

Chi what software are you using that pairs the power/speed/etc data with the video?
Jules vibe edit with data from garmin 500. it works with any action cam

Holy hell Greg Donovan is on the forum?
Chi, looking at my encoding program, I encode in H.264 VBR 2 pass Max 8 Mbps.  I have no idea what that means I'm just re-typing what it says.

The key to quality GoPro videos is to: (1) record with your camera in Protune mode; (2) "convert" the files first in GoPro's studio.  This will take the compressed files on your camera and make them into files four times the size that have better colors.  (3) then stitch them together with your program of choice

If you skip steps 1 and 2 your GoPro footage will look dull and grey.

What type of camera are you using?  GoPro 3's only go up to 30 fps at 1080.  If you are recording at 60fps you are not recording at 1080p with Protune on.

All I notice is the tight pink buns. Is there something else interesting?
That's Wrongway's new clavicle surgeon, right?
@Chi, regarding GoPro quality.  There are quality settings in the "Advanced" menu when you are converting.  Be sure this is set to high.  It ups the data rate.

edit: before you asked, I had never put any thought into this GoPro stuff.  Now I'm doing some experimenting with other bit rates.  I'll see if the resulting video looks any different.
@Brendan

looks like youtube will butcher the video regardless of bitrate unless you have some commercial account then you can upload >50mbps videos.

for now 10mbps seems like the best bitrate for youtube on 1080p
See my post in the GoPro/VIRB/on bike video thread.

not sure if this was posted before....

crazy.

it has been but i can't stop watching it.  thank you.

watching it makes me feel like the recreational cyclist that i am.  i'm in awe every time.
^I don't understand... nobody is taking a drink or eating a gel in the last 2km like they do in the park... and I can't hear the chorus of "holdyaline!" from everybody and their dog...

Is very confusing.
^ I love Degenkolb's firm-yet-gentle touch of the Jelly Belly rider when he pushes him out of the way.  The shouting at the teammate was also simple and direct.  I take it effective, too.
A very polite "go away" while bumping in the gutter. Domestic pros get no respect.
