My brother in law is a Track and XC coach at Cornell, and recently some of his athletes competed in the NCAA Championship meet. The following interview is from senior Rachel Sorna, one of the best steeple-chasers in the country discussing/comparing her back to back 4th places in the past two years. What I feel like is especially relevant for the club, is this bit. I feel like we sometimes easily lose perspective on our personal performances post race when we don't place where we think/want we should/to. I think she shows great maturity and perspective.

@Marc thanks for posting.  I think that kind of maturity ends up being a prerequisite for competing at that level; you just can't do it if don't have the perspective - you end up tearing yourself apart.

What I love about today's finish at the Dauphine...the staff on hand to push riders as they finish the stage completely drained. I always feel completely drained at the end of App Gap at GMSR and could use a push to keep upright.

I just bought this from Sergio's site and thought I'd share.

Okay, round 2.  I rode to work today on the commuter.  12 lbs of Kryptonite locks - train heavy race light.  New handlebars scratched up, chain locking down my saddle, ball bearings epoxied into the faceplate bolts, and bolts on the headset.  Thanks for all the recommendations.  5th Ave at 16th Street.  Locked up next to a co-workers folder.  We'll see how long it lasts this time.

Singularly comprehensive and on-topic crash images from Harlem. Pictures and video from different angles.

Why did that guy crash? Hard to know for sure, but looking his approach, given the arc of the turn, he was going in too sharp. Leaning over way too much for that point of the turn.

I will say though, those new "sandy" corners were sort of jarring. They looked like they were all covered with a thin layer of sand. They felt sort of gritty too. I never felt 100% confident going through them.

You educators will appreciate the following analogy that I thought of while watching some of the other races. You know how, in a test, if everyone gets the question wrong, it's a pretty good sign that there's a problem with the question? Well, I was feeling that way about the race course, when every field had 2 to 4 crashes per race.

But then, when the elites managed to get through without any crashes, I head back in the other direction and just chalk it up to inexperienced crit riders. Probably a bit of both. An extra tight course AND green racers.And as such, was feeling pretty good about my decision to skip out on the 2/3 race...I was worried about the crashiness...and focus on the elites.
