I think our max has been 22 people in the fours. We still didnt win!
Lol, yeah - let's not count our chitlins before they're...uhm..

Let's use our numbers to our advantage, not our demise - if there isn't a Kissena initiating or countering every move I'm gonna let Jules personally punch every cat 4 in the nuts.*

*Even if they didn't race tomorrow - just on principle.
i hope everyone saw charlie's e-mail about the jogger's lane.

his e-mail prompted me to examine the photo from Lanegate.  after subjecting it to various and sophisticated digital analyses, i made a shocking discovery.  perhaps it is for our own safety that we must avoid the jogger's lane.  some say it eats only carbon...

I don't know if anyone will be making any changes this late in the game but I decided to go without my tubulars for tomorrow. Did a pre-ride today and the road seems even worse than a week ago. Maybe its just that I haven't ridden in the park all that much this week but with the weekend crowd I kept finding myself slamming into pot holes again and again. With a 100+ rider field it will only be worse.
Thanks for the beta Mike; I hit that bad hole (just after the 3rd street entrance) dead on last week and thought I broke both alloy wheels... I was fine but Whitey broke his nuvation on it a lap or two later...
Well....upon further review I have found a crack on my rear carbon rim...I plan on racing it anyway tomorrow....fingers crossed....I don't know ho deep it is but it's up near the brake track and runs down about 1/2 inch.
Is this gonna be a problem?
Yikes! Tomorrow you are racing Alloy... your favorite material. Your wife and kids will thank you
Ok 4's here is the Scoop, remember it's a 6am start tomorrow and we have ...(subject to regulatory club approval as strategist)

A SIMPLE PLAN:
  1. Yaks for the dots
  2. Andy for the W
  3. Patrick for the post KOM2 break
  4. Wait for KOM2 before unleashing Banshees!
This means we need a leadout/sweep for both guys and people to keep it together in the interim.  Assemble around Yaks before the start/finish on the KOM laps and get organized.  Yaks will pick the wheel he wants to follow (Tito, Yoshi, Lt. Dan etc) and Owens & I will try to drill the first 1/2 of the lead out - your job will be to either sweep (which means follow on Yak's wheel) or help with the lead out so listen to the guy with Yaks on his wheel... Patrick will muscle his way onto Yak's wheel when he is ready and if he bumps you back one place that is fine... he is on a mission.

Jeff O, Jim, Myself & Patrick can put together a pretty good final leadout - but do not be deterred; if you are feeling good then "surround" the protected rider (Yaks for dots, Andy for the final) and listen to instructions from your teammates.  High-Viz don't just roll around in circles because it's a "four" race.  You can win those sprint premes so start gobbling Green Jersey points like pacman... we are only four races into an eight race series... those beautiful green lycra socks could be yours someday son...

There will be breaks to pull back - when it's time to do that just cruise to the front and SLOWLY bring up the pace - do NOT put your head down blindly and hammer - make sure you are working for a reason, ie: pulling the pack up with you.

If you get in a break before the KOM's are finished YOU MUST TRY AND WIN THAT KOM... EVEN IF THAT MEANS BLOWING YOURSELF OUT OF THE BREAK TO DO IT... points you get are points that cannot be used against Yaks...

Listen, communicate and keep your brains inside your helmets and out of your pants; every single 4 race in the park this year has ended with a crash...

DO NOT BE THAT GUY WHO GOES DOWN SPRINTING FOR 12th!
well,

I delfated the tubular and pulled it back a bit to get a look see.  the crack is limited to the break track and is only finger nail deep...more of a chip than a crack.  The chip does not come around the lip of the rim or enter the rim bead.  Sooo...I'm gonna race it.

We can figure out order for a kom lead tomorrow.  What I really need is 2 guys on my wheel to keep the kom off of me and someone to drill it at the base of the climb.  I think if Tito could take the first leg from the start finish and Lt. Dan could take over before the climb and give me a ramp up....I'de be ok.
It would also be wunder-bar if a strong Kissena could shadow the polka dot guy and come around him at the top to keep him from the points.  We are  1 point behind which is essentially a tie as long as I get over the top of the polka dot dude.
See you scurvy dogs in the a.m.   6 a.m. to be precise
Yacks

@twoyacks if you change your mind i can bring a wheel for you just let me know.  is it front or rear wheel?  i can bring fulcrum racing 7 alloy.  rear has 25mm conti tire, front has michelin pro3 23mm tire.  but tell me in advance because the fulcrums have a 9 speed cassette on them

there's not a big descent, so i'm not especially worried about your small brake track crack exploding your rim after extended braking heats everything up, but it's better safe than sorry.

worst case scenario you can take the shimano rs10 wheels off my gf's bike (she'll be there with the bike) if i don't bring you the fulcrums. they have 10 speed 105 cassette, 11-28?

just send me a text if you want me to bring the fulcrums, number below

re:4's
harryB will be working to 'stay out of it' (that is, team sprints&kom), my goal is to survive&finish well.

talk to me...but, realize i have(3)cracked ribs and BiG efforts hurt - so, will be trying to feel things out, may, be able to surf the front and 'block' but can not make any promisses.

a BiG go get em to Yacks, Andy&co!
- harryb;-)
Harry,

If you're not feeling 100% take the weekend off and don't race. You'll do yourself a solid, and recover rather than push it when you're hurting.

Dan
Yeah...Harry, don't race. Chillax.
...@marc&captDan, thanks guys have worked out from Tuesday on Incl iTT's on Wed, &am comfortable racing. will chill as best one can. C U tomorrow;-)

Good times today!

I think we executed about 1/2 the plan; got Yaks into the dots (or very close, there is some drama around the final KOM) with a pair of monster leadouts.

Yanger SLAYED himself for KOM #1 driving the pack like a Conan on the Wheel of Pain and blew sky high afterwards - a fantastic team effort & sacrifice.

Yaks rode his INDESTRUCTIBLE CARBON WHEEL OF IMMORTALITY to victory and we each took a turn riding over a single rogue bottle that haunted the course like a chain-rattling ghost...

60 minutes at 302 NP
5 minutes at 380 NP

Is it Tuesday night yet?
You'll never bake bread at those temperatures jules

Thanks for the motivation, Jules. Wish I had more fire power in these chicken legs to stay in after the leadout, but glad to work for the leaders regardless. Did some stupid moves like bridging up to early breaks and burning matches for no reason. Race and learn I guess.
I am glad you spit the bit David...as you found my beloved Cateye computer at the side of the road and returned it to me.  I think I saw Jules lashing you with a cat-o-nine tail on the first kom.  Try some Neosporin on those cuts...
today was lots of fun.

unfortunately, the video i got won't include the all-important last half lap (the finish!).  i didn't realize that these races would be long enough to quickly fill the memory card that came with my camera.  it stopped recording halfway down the hill of the final lap.  le sigh...

i'll post something more detailed later but for now i'll just say i didn't get the ending quite right.  was second wheel on a foundation rider for some time beginning perhaps at the bottom of the hill?  then he pulled off to the right and his teammate got on and that was it for me, a train came by on the right and i was in the wind going way too fast.  killed my legs before the finish.  listened to the evil voice inside telling me i was done (actually it was just the disembodied voice of charlie: "don't sprint for 12th").  lessons: second wheel is a little too close; look around to make sure it's really worth it to be there; make the jump when the train starts coming by lest you get left at the station.

oh also i mistakenly thought that there was a kom lap when there blatantly wasn't.  jules, you saw it.  first i sprint through imaginary finish lines at floyd, and now i go for imaginary KOMs.  i suppose it was to be expected.

proof that the 4s are different than the 5s: this race gave me 52 strava achievements...http://app.strava.com/activities/62267096

It's amazing what interesting things you see and find when not having to concentrate on sweaty asses in front of you.
@Yang you did a fine leadout - a little too long but not at all too soft; the trick is to find the right length where you can drill it and not blow your engine completely... very well done

@Brendan how will you celebrate them all?
Good job y'allizz.  I didn't do much but looks like the sprint/KOM stuff went well (maybe we owe polka dots an apology? He's a really nice guy).

Anyway, if anyone knows anyone at Roy's Bikes:

http://roysbikes.com/

Maybe reach out to them and tell them it's not cool to have their riders sitting in the race without numbers pinned on.  What's more, if you don't register and still wanna follow the pack around (Pete from RB did it but made sure he was off the back), DON'T HAVE HEADPHONES IN BLASTING MUSIC.  They were both actually up in the field though, not good.

@jeffO,
re: 2nd KOM and "apologies"(Owens) to the PolkaDot Jersey(PDJ);

there need be NO apologies.

the guy who is admittedly "a nice guy"(Owens&many others, self included) and clearly a strong rider/climber and "does not have any teammates in the race"(PDJ) needs no apologies from Kissena for my "boxing him in"(PDJ) up the 2nd KOM climb on the far right side of the road...

i have studied the Dots Jersey's moves for last (3)L&C races and his intent was to slide up the right side behind the Kissena Yack Train to challenge Chris in the last 15m for the KOM line...

PDJ was (1)rider, team 'X,' behind the Kissena Train at base of hill on right, i moved up super tight in the gutter on the right and held position to the right and behind the 'X' rider, PDJ called out to me "Kissena, don't box me in" repeatedly, my response, "Doing my job," i maintained position & he was forced to move back, out to left and over to the left 3-4riders to get up the road &the find the Kissena Train.

not sure how close he made it to Chris, but i know that what i did was fare, safe and in interest of KCC team goal as Chris had requested i either sweep his wheel or mark the PDJ.

On the warm down lap PDJ came up to me and "apologized" still ticked that it was not fair &did not have a team&such. i said "no problem, ok w/ me if you call me out but that what i did was "my job".

Look this is i nice guy& a very good rider& the competition is tough, So, i am NOT bad mouthing the Ride Brooklyn(PDJ, Pederson?)...Please DO NOT take my 'mini-report' off the KCC Forum.

...just want youALL to know my 1st hand observation.

BiG congrats to ALL: AndyD, ChrisY, high top20 finish for Brendan's 2nd cat4 race& superTeam efforts for crew leading out sheparding prems throught the pack, chasing down attacks&pushing the pace...hope to be in better condition to assist next time out.
-harryB;-)
i should have the video up tomorrow.  i do recall seeing the dots guy yelling at others (not just harry) while trying to move up on the inside and thinking to myself "well that's dumb, that ship sailed without him."  that's my recollection; video will show if it's accurate.

perhaps it's not very gentlemanly to say, but you can't expect people to get out of your way when you're IN A BIKE RACE with the stated object of going faster than everyone behind you.  especially not when their teammate is competing for the jersey you're wearing.  he boxed himself in by trying to move up along the curb.  next time maybe he'll realize he needs to get on the kissena train shortly after the finish line, not start chasing it in the middle of the hill

if he wants to have a 5-person train helping him go up the hill, then he can join up with us :)  ESPECIALLY if he's a nice guy!
Speaking of joining up.... NEW MEMBER RIDE NEXT SATURDAY AFTER THE RACE.  See the cross post in New Member Ride Thread
Yeah, if he's not positioned well, that's his fault.  Fair game.
Thanks to everybody that threw down on the kom's today. The first one had me lined up behind Daivd Yang and Jules.  Jules squeezed every drop of life blood from David and then put in a big dig on the hill giving me a spring board to the top.  In the 2nd one I had at least 3 guys in front at the base of the climb which was great.  I think Tito and Patrick Grehan were there...who else was up there?  I understand Andy has a lock on the green jersey.  Any green train riders...you are welcome to come join the dot train !  I think we can shut up any and all nay sayers next week by putting together a BLISTERING lead out right from the start finish to the climb.  If we can get 3 guys up front that can run a 26-27 mph TT just to the hill I think it will be a lock.  Having a train behind my wheel is just as important.  The idea is to force Erik Pedersen out into the wind way before he wants to be there.  If he is 4 wheels behind me when I hit the climb, he is not overtaking me.  I would not want to be in his cleats right now.  We've got the numbers on him, we just need to execute.  I will be indebted to any and all who help nail down this jersey.....and you know....
I almost forgot the *real* drama of the day; after I sat up with 1 to go (I miscounted) and we were waiting for the 4's to finish some knucklehead let his DOG OFF THE LEASH at the Start/Finish and the dog started running around like a chicken in the yard trying to escape becoming dinner...

"WHOSE FUCKING DOG IS THIS?!?" I was bellowing looking around for the judgement-challenged owner... Lt. Dan caught it eventually and some jackass sauntered up all "relax dude he's not going eat you..."

So just when you thought you'd seen every stupid, brain dead, inconsiderate, irresponsible, jackasstic cause of a crash at Prospect... one more arrives.

It was sweet too when the race official got all up in my face over it...
I regret not being able to make it.  It sounds like there was some great teamwork going on which I'm sorry I missed.  I scouted a Gunks ride with my girlfriend Saturday and after getting lost several dozen times, our quaint 92 mile ride became 115.  We took the 6:44am up to Poughkipsie, the 9:13pm home from Beacon.  Needless to say, I woke up this morning after your last sip from Konditori.
Carry on the great race reports!
