Uh. That sucked. Bad asthma. Random dude created a gap and couldn't catch back on. Dropped with 1 to go. 3rd time at FBF in 3 years. Need to go back bc if nothing else I dig deeper there than I ever will in training. I was either on the front or back. Need to work on pack skills after barely racing for 3 years. I suck.
I helped initiate the winning move though! And got dropped...
I'd like to acknowledge that this was Vlad's 50th race this year. It was my 13th last three years combined. And I've never shattered my elbow into 17 pieces. I only get hit by cars and break my shoulder blade and sever ligaments in my ankle. WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE AMERICA?
It was hard. Brutal attacks from the gun. I just missed going with them--I rolled off at the start. Think I spent the first 20 minutes at or above my threshold. Then I got tired. go figure.
I felt a little bit better that both Jermaine and Juan Carlos Polanco also thought it was a hard evening.
Chase Goldstein won solo.
Vlad, in the chase group, put in a pretty good sprint. He made some hard efforts, and had something left at the end. All the better, considering his heavy race schedule of late. Out of the money, but it seemed like less than half the field finished. I got dropped with three to go. I want to go back and avenge.
Vlad would back me up here but what a great night to race at Floyd! Pleasant temperature, hardly any wind, and for the 3/4, a good sized field that raced had and fast, and minus a three man crash that happened in front of me and I narrowly avoided, it was fun.
As usual lots of attack from the get go. One guy soloed away for the win with 6 laps to go. The field was only interested in attacking each other. I rolled off the front a couple of times and set the pace. At one point with about 3 to go, I rolled off the front and bridged to two guys that were just dangling ahead. I look back and we had a gap. I was excited but it didn't last. Soon the field was upon us. I came in with everyone else at the finish.
Anyway it was a harder race overall than Sunday's. A higher caliber of racers = non stop high pace. Sweet!
Broke away with Rob Brown for a few laps and snagged the second sprint points (gave Rob the honor because he's the man). Had a nice gap but they pulled us back around 3 to go. l was active at the front all night. Wound up in a group of about 10ish that had snapped off the front. Second wheel into the last corner, but alas the fast guys caught us and whoosh, they swarmed and flew by. I stayed out of the way and surfed the vapor trails for a top 20 spot... I think.
Hey Jeff. I just got home. I'm south of Prospect, so usually ride along 46th and then head south, staying off Flatbush, and ride along Bedford, which has a bike path.
Let me know if you want to meet up. If you come down 5th Ave to 46th, I can meet you on the corner, else I'll see you there. Probably leaving around 5:50 or so.
Tough race for me tonight. After the first lap I knew I didn't have the legs to play around up front like last week so I just stayed ensconced within the peloton. I figured out where the wind was and positioned myself on the far side right before each turn. I think maybe I actually finished better than last week since I was less tired. Go figure.
Great to see Jeff C, Mark I, Bruce van S, Patrick G and trackie Chris. Vlad I see all the time (always good to see him).
A good time last night with Patrick and Phil. The Triangle guys were out in force - there were maybe 8 guys in the 3/4 race yelling at each other on every lap, working as a team, getting out of their saddles onto the front, giving each other leads and wheels. It was impressive. It was also in Spanish, so I don't know what they were saying.
We didn't let any breaks get away and no one seemed too serious about making one or working with each other when one seemed to be forming.
The highlight, for me, was after the race, I was following Mike and Vlad out of the parking lot. There's a sidewalk you have to hop up. I misjudged and fell.
It was good cross practice.
People behind me heckled, I hit someone going past (I think it was Renee, who stayed up). I unclipped, righted myself, pulled to the side as others passed, patiently clipped back in, pushed off.
I didn't own the bunnyhop, so it beat me. I stayed calm in the fall, calm getting back up, laughed at the heckles. Yep, good cross practice.
Nice seeing you guys last night.
I slept in this morning and made the Manhattan Bridge my morning's hard effort on the ride in.
