Good race tonight as usual. Tough all around to end the series.
Bad crash at the sprint to the finish. Some dude from kosher cyclist fell somehow, took down the woman from mariella pizza, then Nathan Brauer slams into them and does a somersault. The kosher guy looked pretty bad. He was in a stretcher. Nathan was banged up too. Slammed his head on the pavement.
I was lucky I couldn't hold Nathan's wheel (I was trying but I was spent).
Bruce looked strong. Patrick as usual up front where the action was.

Today was a very hard one.
A group of 4 got away early.
I found myself in a chase group. It was annoying because of blockers but we got ourself close. Mengoni was working hard with 3 in the group, but Rene was dropped.
With two to go Eugene and an axis guy got a bit of a gap on the chase group. I went after them and also got a gap on the chase, but was stopped by the officials at 1 to go. The top 6 went through, I was 7th and held up. Race neutralized because of the cat 4 crash. So I got the last lap off but didn't get a chance to chase or contest for top 10. Oh well. Hope the folks in the cat 4 race get healed up.

Damn. Nathan is super nice and who knows what happened, and I've only raced with the kosher guys ("coached" by former kissena Nosson, who is incredibly clumsy on a bike) a few times, but many of them are auper sketchy. Stay far away.

They kept yelling tactics at each other. Very annoying.
I just reviewed my video and since the crash happened right in front of me, I had a clear shot of what happened.
Essentially one of the kosher guys overlapped wheels with an axis guy (in the sprint) and clipped his rear wheel. He goes flying to right and onto Nathan's path and Nathan endos with both hands out front.

I went up to Nathan after the crash, when he was standing next to his bike, wiping blood off his hand and arm. He said he cracked his helmet, and showed me.
I asked if he thought he was okay to ride home, in a tone that suggested he wasn't.
I asked because of our busted helmet policy, no racing after a helmet breaks. I really wouldn't have thought of this if it wasn't for our policy, and several reminders of our policy, as I've never really considered the seriousness of even a slight concussion and then trying to get back on a bike.
To my surprise, Nathan said no, he couldn't ride. Generally, my default is to say I'm fine. Nathan taught me a lesson. I told him I'd wait with him if he was going to get a cab, and then Patrick offered him a ride.
Teamwork on and off the course.

I would say that the Axis guy caused it, but the Kosher kid could have avoided it.

@Vlad - not quite disagreeing, but the Axis guy was 2/3 a bike ahead of the kosher kid. If your bars are in front of another person, you control where they go. The kosher kid should have avoided that, but he didn't react until he got hit and whammo. On the flip side, the Axis guy shouldn't have come off his line like that in the last 200m, but then, how can you pass people (see Adam Myerson flare up earlier this year at Battenkill).

I agree. The Kosher kid should have been more attentive. The Axis guy had some sort of late kick. If you watch, he jumps around a few more people before the finish. He should have positioned himself better and gone for the win instead of trying to pick people off as they're cracking. I think that flying through the field like that at the end of the race is irresponsible and dangerous... obviously.
I'm going to politely mention this to Korff or Carbo the next time I see them.
I'd also like to add that the Axis guy was likely not the only one riding like this in the final 200m.

@Vlad @Eric I have to agree, especially in light of the relative experience of the two.
1) Axis guy (any one of which has 1k + races under his belt)
2) Kosher guy brand new to racing
That doesn't mean that the more experienced rider can't be in the wrong, but in this case the Axis guys are just not the wheel chopping types. Quite the opposite, really.

I watched it a few times and I can't say I blame the Axis racer. He launched a good sprint, was navigating a quickly fading bunch to a 7th place finish. from way back. the kosher rider was just out of his league.

I believe the kosher cyclist guys just upgraded this year.
In any case, I checked on Nathan today, the xray showed nothing broken and no internal injuries. His left arm/shoulder is starting to get back its mobility too so he's on his way to recovery.
