I'm a maybe. I have a meeting on the UWS late afternoon so it depends how long that lasts.
not today, but I will be there Thursday
@JohnOlsson see you there!
Good luck tonight guys!
Fun times racing with teammates. Really makes a difference.
Last night's crew, missing Max.
@JohnOlsson got into an early five- or six-man breakaway last night. It formed after an intermediate sprint, if memory serves. Good job! I’d like to hear more about what it was like up there.

With John up the road, I hopped onto a group that was trying to bridge across on the back straight. We weren’t getting much of a gap on the peloton and John was drifting back. As we turned corner 3, I knew I had to counterattack but at the same time I found myself on the front of the peloton. I made a dig, but my hesitation to go any deeper wasted the effort. Next lap through the back straight my inattention exposed me to a crosswind, blowing pretty stiff from the south. I was soon off the back and apparently don’t have the fitness to latch back on. Race over.

After spending a lap (or two? I can’t remember) in a four-rider chase that rotated about as smoothly as a square wheel—including one dumbass who refused to do any work until he decided to attack us—I pulled out. I was playing with house money anyway, both literally and figuratively: racing for free because I volunteered, and having successfully put in a few hard efforts without bothering my hamstring (at least not too much). Got some good training. Nice weather. Good company. All in all, a fine second experience at FBF. I’ll be back—I’m motivated to crack the code of racing out there.
The dash for cash on July 4th might be worth putting in our radar:

Although I ended up getting a DNF (note my strava finish on lap 7 below), my second Floyd race of the year was a ton of fun. As @MaxThorn mentioned above, i got in an early break... lap 3 i think.

It is helpful to know that the windiest section of the course yesterday was between turns 1 and 2 (see below). On that particular lap I happened to be hiding mid-field conserving some energy. Just before turn two of that lap (see highlighted in yellow below), i noticed a gap and made a move on the outside and found myself up in the front. Someone started sprinting and whoever could hang on created a nice 15-20 sec lead on the main group.

I remember there being four of us for some reason, but there def could have been a couple riders hiding in the back. Anywho, we all took turns taking the wind in a rotating pace line between turns 3 and 4 as the gap grew larger...if i had to guess i would say we had a 30-45 sec lead at that point. As we rounded turn 4 and got closer to the finish line I remember seeing charlie yelling to us to slow down. Apparently the CAT 1/2 field had just crossed the line and we nearly lapped them.

Our teamwork began to break down into turn 1 and fell apart about halfway to turn 2 as the wind was too much to manage with such a small group. I then dropped back from the peleton just before turn 3 (1 lap after break had formed) and the main group caught me (Max first) just before turn 4.

All-in-all I lasted in the break for a little over a lap, such an awesome experience. In hindsight I would have made it a priority to rest a lap or two after the break. I was so jacked up from the experience i attacked again on turn 2 of the following lap and started to red-line bad. I hung on for another lap or two before overestimating my capabilities at and tried to bridge Max and I to the main group. I called it quits shortly after and proceeded to take photos of everything.

Was awesome to race again with teammates! I look forward to racing this coming week/weekend.

Btw - no race next Tuesday night July 3, per Charlie.
Reading John's report made me realize I made a mistake in the race. I remember passing him and Max at one point and bridging to a group ahead (which turned out to be the main group). I didn't realize they just got back on and I should have helped them get up to the main group. No situational awareness on my part.

Here's one of Max who was missing from Phil's photo.

I'll be heading out to the 4/5 this evening, anyone else?

Is there a race? I thought we are having thunderstorms this evening. Either way I'm not racing.
After trying to outrun a rainstorm, I made it to Floyd just in time to pay and pin up.  Race started at 6:35, and not 1 minute later, Harvey-esque rain and wind pounded the course.  There weren't immediate puddles of water, but rather pools of water.  And could not see, at all.  And it was EPIC.  Unfortunately the race was called at 3 laps as half the field was dropped and the rain wouldn't let up.

Epic it was.

every lap is a prime, so sprint every lap, John! ;)

and hit a bbq afterwards
Should we have an A and a B group? Each group go for the leadout every other lap & split the booty? (ie: lap 1 group A attacks, group B rests/blocks; lap 2 group B attacks, group A rests/blocks??
I’m in, but I’m a CAT 5. I’ll be racing alone
