Floyd Bennett Field

Bobby - we will cheer you on.

John - I think you’ve got the foundation for a good plan. First, there are 8 primes in 13 laps for the 3/4 race. It makes sense that we could have riders attacking on prime laps. The other teammates should follow the chasing riders but not contribute to the chase. If the attacking riders stay clear then they win a prime. If the attacker gets caught then the teammates who have been sitting on the chasers can counterattack or go for the sprint.

A couple of notes (that may be obvious, but are worth repeating). 1. Communicate with each other and look to see if there are teammates up the road. You don’t want to chase down your own teammates. 2. If you are following someone who is chasing be careful not to tow the field back to your teammate - better to let gaps open up and have people come around you and make them work rather than hitching a ride on your wheel. 3. Unless you have crazy strong legs, don’t attack from an impossible distance. Either attack a distance that you might be able to hold or that will force a chase and hopefully set up someone for the sprint. 4. Have fun!

Lets keep the discussion going. Other thoughts?

Those are so hot my monitor just melted.
meant to write a quick report about dash for cash... simply:

Lap 1 had a $100 prime (or was it $200?)..., as we were approaching the end of that lap, moving at 55ish km/h, I felt like I needed to shift up to maintain position, but when I went to shift there were no more gears, I was already full bloc 52/11. That moment..., that moment was awesome.

Otherwise, racing with so many kissenistas was fire.

Let's go race bikes.

(photos by Victor, duh)

Spun out in your 52x11 on a flat. I can't say I've ever done that! Time to upgrade to a bigboy chainring, I suppose...

-- to be fair, I wouldn't say "spun out" -- I was probably floating a 60ish cadance, to keep the speed I shifted down 13~14 and upped my cadence. But still totally awesome to realize, oh shit, this one goes to 11 and we are already there.
Race reportz.
Only Kissena racing today. I got 8th place, 5th in the field sprint (cat 3/4). No 💰
Anyone considering FBF this saturday?

I'm going down for it.
I'm in
gonna pass on this. could use a break from the road bike. will head to Cunningham instead.
That was a fun race..  Lap 1, mixing it up with Rapha guys driving the front. Lined up at the front next to three Rapha guys. At the whistle they go hard. I knew that they would be trying to break the field at the start so I latched on the 4th spot. Single file and we get a small gap after the second turn where there's a cross wind from the left. Lap 2, Rapha guys slowed down and kept looking behind at the field, which by then was surging up to us. I dont get that. We get caught. Lap 3, it started pouring with lightning and I chicken out and bailed. I assume Charlie called the rest of the race off.

Torrential, driving rain and lightning on Flatbush. I probably should've taken the train at some point but I figured I'm already wet. The upside was, that rain was so refreshing, downside, now I have to clean everything.

Next week again.
Raced the 4/5s in the new FBF Thursday series.

It seems like every time I race here, I don’t quite perform as well as I’d like but someone crashes and I walk away feeling like “Well I guess my race wasn’t all bad”. Thursday was no different. The field was pretty large and they added a $20 prime every second lap. This created some really hard racing and funky tactics. I felt prettt flat so I think I might just be getting to that point in a long season.

For the the majority of the race, a Rapha guy and a Verrazano guy were in a break. I missed the boat on that one. Then the other Rapha guys posted up front and no one wanted to help chase down the break. I made a few attempts but they covered my moves really well. It was impressive to see how well they were able to control the field with their man up the road.

Unfortunately on the last straightaway, there was a really bad crash. One rider was taken in an ambulance and was totally concussed. 2 bikes were completely destroyed. Pretty scary stuff.

On to the next one!

I feel you! It's like someone's gonna Red Leader every other race. Just remember if it gets wide ad slow near the end GTFO!

Everyone walked away from this one but I think epitomizes the chaos.

@RobertMullen my buddy Francesco was the guy who was taken away by the ambulance. Luckily he escaped with no major injuries, but his face was beat up pretty badly.
@RobertPeras oh man I’m so glad to hear that. It was pretty gnarly. I’ve seen him at almost every race (is he the young guy with the Bianchi?) and usually he’s a decent wheel to follow.
@Jules good call.

One of the guys records all of the races and the crash is somewhere towards the end of the vid here:

@RobertMullen he has a Look bike. I don't think he races at FBF often, maybe just his 2nd or 3rd time. He races with me at the track a lot.
@RobertPeras ahh okay I’m thinking of someone else. I didn’t stick around too long so I thought it was another racer who got taken away. Still glad your friend ended up alright
CAT 3-4 FBF Race tonight is on @ 6:50 PM.  WHOSE IN!?!?!?
SO MUCH RAIN.  I'm not going anymore.  Call me fair-weather all you want.
Sounds like a wise choice with all the lightning right now.
Rain? Lightning? I don't see any by me... Forecast sats 20% chance of rain at race time. I am still on the fence
Charlie posted at 4:10 that is was not raining at Floyd
Ugh, I'm still at work. I won't make it.
Rain should pass by race time, but the course is probably pretty flooded (screen shot 5:10pm)

Yup. Charlie just cancelled race. See you all next week!

I’ve only raced at the Thursday series but would be down to come by on Tuesday if other cat 4 folks are racing?
@RobertMullen I think the Tuesday series is better. Also it's a 3/4 field so it's a better workout.
