Looks like they fixed the issue for now.
I see that we started adding the road categories on one's profile. 1-3 only though. Good idea.

+1 to Gwynna's issue.  I get it about 25% of the time I visit the forum now.

50% via mobile
It just happened when I went to read this thread!  Irony Alert!
Forum seems to be a bit of a mess.  Not sure that private messages being posted as public topics is quite right.  What's the crack with that?
Anyone else having some forum issues? About half the time I click on a topic I get a blank screen. Happened at home and work.

Yup, me too. I refresh the browser screen and usually get 'er back though.
Same for me
I've shortened the comments per page count to 50, let me know if it recurs.
FYI the forum was down last night. If it's down in the future you can check the vanilla forums status page first to see if there's a reported issue before resorting to the dolphin for the satellite uplink.

The vanilla twitter handle is usually pretty good with updates as well

This thread will be at the top of http://kissenacycling.vanillaforums.com even though nobody cares.

I’m currently in a hackathon and we’ve decided to build out an iOS app for cyclists and city commuters. Basically Waze for cyclists. The idea is that when you meet an obstacle (police, construction, people walking in the bike lane etc… ) you press a button on your phone that alerts other users of the obstacle. The data collected ( geo location and time ) are enough for the app to make decisions about where obstacles are located, which then populate a map and alert users (via sound) of upcoming obstacles on the road.

Would love to hear back with feedback on this app idea and whether or not you would be interested in using something like it. Open to all thoughts. pm me if you see this and want to input :) >_>

saw this! I think the app can potentially do it better, by offering real time changes and updating with user input. The only thing is that using a button isn't a good feature so it would be cooler to have it voice activated.
When I click on the discussion tab in the forum, it states recent discussion on the top of the page, but my discussions are not listed in order of my recent comment on the top.  Does anyone know why this is?
I guess it lists them in order of most recent, but still keeps the subheadings even though they are invisible when you click on the discussion tab.  So, it's most recent by invisible subheading...that's kinda dumb.
There are 3 main views on the forum:

  1. disucussions (sorted by god knows what)
  2. click the "Kissena" logo at the top to get a view by category
  3. best of which is a newspaper style layout
(I'm pretty sure you can program your own if you prefer)
How do you get newspaper style layout?  And where do you program your view?
Newspaper view is "Best Of..." link in nav (see pic)

I'm an admin, and the best view available is "Discussions" because it shows where the action is. Re programming view, if you are a coder I we can talk about getting you admin rights so you can tinker with to improve. It'd be much better if new comments is all you see, instead of having to scroll.

One cool feature that most don't know about is Bookmark. If you bookmark a discussion by clicking on the little star at top right, you'll receive an email when someone posts a new comment to that discussion.

Would also like to nut out that Google Cal setting the page width issue on mobile.
Thanks, John.  I've been getting a lot of feedback about the forum from new members.  I remember that I found it very overwhelming/disorganized at first, but once I figured out which discussions I was interested in and starred those, it got a lot better.
I wish that when you clicked on discussions, it would list them in order of most recent.  It seems like when you click discussions, it still shows you the category view, but without the category headings.
Hey folks,

I did a little digging and you can now access the forum via https. Just change the URL you use.

There is lots more you can do for privacy but this is a hassle-free start.

is there an app for this forum platform? I saw that there was a vanilla app but I couldn't enter on my kissena specific account.

There's a paid app developed by third party but sadly Vanilla won't fold it into their subscription—only way is via phone browser. If you have suggestions for better/more cost effective community platform we're all ears, it's our club's number 1 expenditure and we're unimpressed with their lack of innovation.

@JohnMalcolmson we use "slack" for the school paper, is great. And free
As an aside, if anyone ever wanders into the "Wattage" google group you will be (I presume) amazed at the vitriol, circular arguments and general nyah-nyah therein.

This forum is quite a testament to the civility of KCC

(and moderated forums :P)
