A clue...

it appears that I am only getting email notifications from threads which I "started." For example, I'm getting emails from the "Group Ride" thread.

Marc - to get emails from other threads you need to "bookmark" them. From the discussions main page, click the star that is sort of in the middle of the line for that thread (to the right of the thread name and immediately to the right of the gear icon). That will bookmark the thread for you and if you've check all the boxes in your preferences then you should begin receiving email notifications for the threads that you've bookmarked.

Here is a neat trick people should know about. You can wrap text in spoiler tags like this:

The girl in The Crying Game is actually a DUDE

but use a real "s" instead of the "$"

here's a question - sorry if it's already been asked (i looked but didn't see it). the old forum gave you an option to edit after you posted - but i'm not seeing how to do it here. is that no longer an option?

edit: AHA! just figured out answer to my own question (i think). Seems there's a 1-hour limit to make edits, doable via a little "gear" logo that appears next to the quote link.

The feature is called "flood control" and it's basically to prevent people from going ape. We can configure it differently if need be.

Folks, I'm merging threads fast & furious but it's a ton of work. Like 20 different L&C cup threads for example, or 8 different Battenkill threads.

I've also carved out some more informative "Discussion Categories"

Please let me know if you see any threads that are screaming to be merged (please email me links)

@Jules - Props to you and everyone else who made the new forum happen.

I like the new features and it looks great on my iPhone, but the discussions page looks way too busy (a.k.a. fugly) in a desktop web browser.

There is some info that I think is superfluous and I wonder if there is a way to remove or make it less visible. For example, we don't really need the user icons to indicate who started and last commented on a thread to be viewed in the discussions list. I would also suggest removing any mention of who started a thread from the discussion list as most of our threads are lengthy and it doesn't really matter who started the thread anymore (if it ever did).

You didn't ask, but these are my 2 cents. Don't know if either of these suggestions is possible within Vanilla 2.0 or if others agree.

Patrick, I think those changes would be great. I've already made a lot of changes to the theme CSS, but my knowledge falls a bit short when it comes to taking out the "who started it" user icon. I think that should also be moved so it's the rightmost column. Joe might know how to do it—Joe?

Like the old forum, the categories are sorted according to the date/time of the most recent post. Except for the sticky announcements that are forced to the top. I don't think it is any more of a mess than the previuos forum.

A couple of web site items to note (I've done bug checking in the past):

www.kissenacycling.com doesn't resolve to the web site, the "www" messes it up, without the www its fine.
we should redirect the old site kissena.info to the new one.
currently the facebook site refers to the www.kissenacycling.com address so it results in a DNS unresolved error
People's links (if they have them) in BikeReg should be updated.
