Meet Kissena Ride

Thanks for a fun ride tonight everyone, it was great to meet some of you and finally put some faces to names / avatars. And thanks to Dan for the (trivia-filled) escort back to the bridge. I had done FORTY KILOMETRES by the time I got home. At least that's my aerobic base taken care of for the next 6 months.

Eric - it was good to meet you too, but we missed the chance to do some standing starts together, ha. You won't be saying I forced you when we're bathing in the spoils of a NYS podium finish - champagne, women, sports cars, cash etc etc (that's standard for racing over here, right?)
@kieranleahy - I hate to break this to you, but rarely are there more teams than medals! Even at nationals!
@eragot

let him down lightly...

@Kieranleahy, Yes NYS track state champions are showered with adulation. Clear your schedule so you can be on late night talk shows.
I had a good time. Hopefully I can ride with some of you guys this fall. Thanks for the good times.
@eragot and @DanReiners - sorry for the late reply, have been in extensive talks with David Letterman (Piers Morgan called too but I told him where to go).

Don't worry, I figured track racing here (the pros at T-Town aside) is much like track racing in Ireland / UK - i.e. a scant field, and one man and his dog watching.

I won the Irish champs for the first time in 2006 and the owner of the guesthouse in Dublin I was staying at asked me - "do you win a car for that or something?" "er, not quite" was my answer.
Another month, another BUMP

September 19th 7pm
Grand Army Plaza entrance to Prospect Park
No drop 5 or so laps of Prospect Park plus some Q&A for new or prospective members.
Leader: Jules or Mike P

Everyone is welcome at this ride - another excuse to rock your new kit!  It would be great if we could get a few people to help patrol both the back for stragglers and the front to keep the pace mellow.

As we've seen  in the past a big evening group in PP can easily accelerate and turn into a Danger Zone Flyby fest, which we want to avoid.

August saw almost 20 people show after only six or emailed interest.  This time we've seen over 20 emails from interested prospective members so this might be a big group.  If you can come help make this social it would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds great Jules, count me in!
BUMP

Wednesday at 7pm.  Be there or B Square.
Double Bump.  Who is in?
i'll be there!
I'm going to try and make it if I can get out of work in time.
If I'm able to get out of the office soon, I'll join tonight as well.

Nice turnout last night. Met some great new folks and some prospective members checking the group out. Fun way to spend a pleasant fall evening post-threshold intervals.

Heard my homie Jason W. was there - I've been bugging him to join for months.  Now he hates Kissena, hates bikes, hates life.

JK!

Surrreously, he had a good time - said some WS United and Foundation behemoths joined and started hammering.

Also, was there a young guy named Aaron there?  Met him at the shop recently and plugged him into KCC - he raced collegiate in Chicago and just moved to NYC.  Said he'd go to the n00b ride.

Yes, met both of them but very briefly. nice dudes.

the funny thing about mellow group rides in the park, lots of dudes start joining in and since most of the newbies / prospective members don't have kissena gear. so they see it as a random group ride and want to be a part of it.

@mperlberg

The hop-ons are limited by having a Kissena as the gatekeeper/sweeper at the back of the group saying that it is a new member ride, and folks are welcome to join but they have to make sure that they keep it mellow and say in a double paceline. Ive found that discourages the normal PP "hardmen" from joining and then trying to get the group to hammer.

The final new member ride will be Wednesday October 17th at 7PM. Front and rear lights are required.

William will be the ride leader. If you haven't been to a club function, this is a great opportunity.
Will do my best to be there, patrolling off the back.....
I will be there for my first group ride to meet you guys.
i'm out...mother$*&%.....

took my first ride over the GWB since i got my goat heart last summer, and managed to throw out my back...not even sure how, as i wasn't doing anything particularly strenuous (though, as i hear, that's often the case).  so much for all of my off-season planking and core strengthening....

so, now i'm on the couch, again, on painkillers and ice/heat.

#oldman
sorry to hear
time for a good set of bond movies?
yes - that, and playoff baseball, presidential debates and Homeland, in no particular order....see you all (hopefully) for the next one...this is beautiful riding weather, too.  enjoy it!
I'll be in PP near the GAP entrance tomorrow evening at 6:55pm.

If anyone wants to come along and help spread the KCC message of chastity, abstinence and rousing hymns, I'd appreciate the company.

good times last night.

3 prospective members and one recent member (Jeremy) came along for the ride.

we were joined by Dan Hubbard (looking all svelte), Al Barouh, Ed Zimmerman from W.S. United and former Kissena, Claude (west-indian dude who used to help hincapie when he was a junior).

lots of laps, some group riding skills and finally, a treatise on the comparative merits of bibs vs shorts.

i stopped in chinatown for noodles (follow my instagram @wmdoylecapitman to see the food porn) and conked out hard.

According to Al, William's spirit animal is a sheepdog.

That's all I got - as you were, folks.
