Local Dopers

Good thing cholesterol and fat aren't banned "substances", because my body produces a lot of those!
Anyone who knew or raced with him would easily tell you that he's a dummy. As crude as that sounds, it's the best description.

For example, he's had half a year to work out his explanation and that's the best he can come up with.
The good news is that he has a career in big pharma since his body is a pharmacological philosopher's stone, able to synthesize modern medications on a simple diet of GNC supplements.

edit: Good point Vlad.  Where's the backdated prescription?  Even without backdating it, he'd have fared much better if he pursued a prescription for Modafinil (tell a pychiatrist that you're having trouble concentrating in class and you shall receive!).  Prescription in hand, he could have later claimed that he began taking it before he got the prescription for the reasons that it was later prescribed.
Prescription isn't the same as  TUE.
it ain't.  But the lame excuses are a face-saving exercise to keep friends and potentially a sponsor.  He's not trying to convince us; he's trying, whether he knows it or not, to give his friends "plausible deniability."

@Wump I don't think it's fair to, or that we can ascribe motive to his behavior in any accurate way.  Perhaps he did it without telling his dad who he doesn't want to disappoint; perhaps he was under the influence of alien mind control when he took the dope; perhaps he's actually dumb enough to take "vitamins" from an unscrupulous coach, or perhaps he did it with everyone in the know... we'll never know.

From my view he's a kid/young man with bad decision making skills who's about to lose all his social standing, and have an extra 12-14 hours a week on his hands with which to exercise said decision making skills.

It is unlikely to end well for him.
His meteoric rise to Cat 1 was fueled by drugs. No more bullshit. He knew what he was doing, just like DA. Fuck him for cheating and fuck him even more for denying it. I raced with him a lot and I saw what he was was capable of. Winning Somerville as a Cat 2 and getting dropped the next week. Inconsistency. He sucks. Unfortunately, I'm starting to become aware of what doping looks like and it makes me sad. Moral: listen to the Kissena elders. They spotted this right away. I respect this club.

I don't know if he's consciously saying "if I make these lies, my friends won't turn their back on me," But I do think that his friends would rather grasp for a reason to pretend he's innocent than confront the possibility that the guy they regarded as a friend is a doper.  My guess is that many of those who liked Cesar are going to claim his supplements were contaminated and/or the test was wrong.
Isn't it obvious? Why reduce the "pro factor" of your doping scandal by failing to follow it with the most-pro of responses: "I'm innocent - I have no idea how this PED got into my body!" Without that, you're just an amateur who doped and is sorry. Lame!
JP got me worried at the SS race last weekend when I whipped out my inhaler, so I looked this up on the USADA site.

For anyone taking Alubterol, you don't need a TUE... unless you go over 14 puffs in 24 hours (which is insane)

  • Inhaled beta-2 agonists are prohibited and require a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE), except for albuterol (dosages under 1600 micrograms/24 hours), formoterol (dosages less than 54 micrograms/24 hours), salmeterol (when taken according to manufacturer’s instructions).

Seriously you guys, learning is half the battle.

Vlad "I didn't inhale 15 times" Preoteasa.
Hey all,

The NYSBRA Ride Clean donation boxes are LIVE for Charlie's races so toss in a couple of bucks if you can.  USAC is MATCHING the donations that NYSBRA collects.

More like Vlad "I did not have sexual relations with that inhaler" Preoteasa.

Hi All,

I'm happy to share that BikeReg, at our request (!) has added a "donate" button to Race Clean to their system and is working to make the feature visible to all NYSBRA races by default.

It has come to this:

I got a cold earlier in the week and will usually take pseudofed for a couple of days in the middle to help prevent buildup of gunk in my sinuses which can lead to sinus infection (ask Jeff). Yesterday and today are the key days, but it occurs to me that I will be racing this weekend and pseudoephedrine is likely on the WADA list. I check. It is (150 micrograms/ml in the urine - is that a lot, does it last more than a day in my system?). I also notice that phenylephrine is excluded from the banned list, which is a less effective version of pseudofed and which you often find in to OTC cold remedies (pseudofed is controlled due to potential for using it to make crystal meth). We happen to have some CVS multisymptom remedy with phenylephrine, so I suppose I'll try those.

I also have a nose inhaler to keep the sinus openings from swelling shut. This has a steroid called mometasone, which doesn't show up on the WADA search. If I get popped this weekend, you'll know why.

Although I support testing of the local numbskulls, I wish I didn't have to worry about such nonsense.

@ David

I avoid Claritin-D and Sudafed on race days and the day before races for the same reason. It sucks because they work better than anything else to clear up my sinuses during allergy season.

I haven't been able to figure out if it will stay in my system longer than 24 hours, particularly with those supposed extended release tablets.

Pseudofed combined with caffeine apparently has some significant performance benefits. I think someone linked to a study here.
I just stick to bread and water. Mercx be dammed.

FYI:

http://www.rxlist.com/claritin-d-drug/clinical-pharmacology.htm

1/2 life of Claritin-D is on average 8.4 hours (range 3 to 20).
@bertucco:
1/2 life is not helpful unless we know what the starting levels were. For example, if the levels specified by the control is 1/1000 of the clinically effective levels (which doesn't seem so outrageous to me), it would take 10 half-lifes to prevent testing positive, which is more than a couple of days.

@ragot:
what about those beerecovery sessions I've been hearing about?
For those who want Claritin-D but are afraid of the dosage of D, ex-Kissena allergy doctor Nate Horne suggested a good idea.  Separate the Claritin from the D.

I don't like the feeling I get from Claritin-D,and the 24hr stuff has 240mg of pseudofed, so I got Claritin (actually the generic Loratadine) and then purchased 30mg pseudofed tablets.  Now, when I'm having allergy issues, I take Claritin at night (seems to slow me down), and if my nose is running too much in the morning, not a race morning or day, I take the pseudofed.  It is usually enough to dry out my nose for the day.

I asked about the out-of-competition ok/race day banned issue.  While they didn't want to be too specific, the idea is that it should cycle out of your system w/in a day.

@David, maybe then you are going to have to go old school to keep those sinuses clear. Steamy showers, saline nasal sprays, Neti pots, as much R&R as you can muster.

I posted in the Injuries thread - but as long as it is only banned for in-competition, you don't have to worry about it. If you have a doctor's note, that would be best. Basically, if you get popped, you'll provide documentation that you are taking it because you actually need it.

Now, in your case, I'd definitely pursue any alternate arrangements, especially if you DON'T have a doctor's note. But really, you aren't gonna have to take a two-year suspension because you got a cold.
I disagree.  Don't want you getting caught for cold medication.  I don't see the doctor's note helping explain high levels of pseudofed.

I feel like I just got my money's worth from USAC.  Very strange.

Vlad and I did that race. I don't know what category he was racing in but they made it very very clear that there would be testing (at the start line) and had to check to see if your number was pulled.
I beat him at Independence CX last year. Wohoo, I'm better than a doper! Failed to report for a dope tester!
I may be tilting at windmills here but at 44 I definitely don't feel the way I did at 39... (ok, yeah, there is the #threekids thing too) but sometimes I look around and see guys my age - or older - built like I was at when I was basically a full time gym rat and only 26 years old and wonder... what the what?!?

He must have gotten popped in the 123 race. I think that's the only one USADA targeted. Looking at the results, I also don't remember Durso being on the podium.

He raced for Somerville Sports. I don't like the bias that I'm starting to develop.

I keep hearing about how rampant it is at our races and now I can't help but believe it.

Losers.
How many years in a row has a local guy gotten popped?  The chances of getting tested are miniscule, yet we get what we have gotten.  The probability of only those guys testing positive being the culprits is even more.   miniscule.  Such douche bags
@Vlad
Durso on different team no?
