I didn't see his win at the first L&C cup race. But other than that, he's ridden the races I've done with him in the same way--trying hard not to work in any move he gets into and sprinting well at the end.

BTW, here's a story of a guy who used to race locally and gave it up because of doping. He'd raced in europe after college.

Thanks for posting that story JP. It's a good one. I am not so disheartened by a few dopers at the local level. Cheating should be addressed with good tactics, but it will still happen. I don't think it will become rampant at the amateur level, but maybe it is or will become more of a problem than I suspect.

Norm, I'm sure there have always been guys doping at local races. Perhaps there are more today than there were in days of yore. I'm certainly more aware of the signs.
I'm frustrated that testing has yet to start appearing, but I think that will help.
BTW, he's referring to Joe Papp as the supplier.

Thanks to Matt Vandivort (RD) for pulling together the necessary arrangements as USADA completed their first test of NY riders as part of the NYSBRA “RaceClean” program. The tests took place immediately following the Lou Maltese Memorial in Central park this morning.
We kept the testing a secret until the podium ceremony whereupon the top three men Cat 1-2-3 where asked to do their duty. Matt reports that the testing and presence of USADA at a NY race is already generating a lot of buzz on the NY egroups. Very well done to Matt!
We can expect testing at a minimum of one more race this season under the NYSBRA RaceClean contract, maybe more if USADA can optimize travel costs. Stay tuned!

JP will remember this story. Regional mid-level road race in New Jersey. Joe Papp's UPMC team in full attendance. The promoter floated a rumor that there was going to be drug testing. After ripping up the regional events all season, mysteriously, none of their guys finished that race, that year. We knew then, of course. But now we REALLY know what was going on there.

It was better than that.
The UPMC team rode 80 miles of the 100 or so and then all but one dropped out. One of their guys finished, in the top 10 I think.
The next day, at a rainy crit in downtown manhattan, they swept the top five places.
The rumor was false, which the promoter knew, because he made it up. And he got to go around telling people "told ya" for the next year or so. He didn't like dopers winning his race. Unfortunately, the next year, a guy from that team won, and was disqualifed, and the second-place rider, Melito "Pulla" Heredia, of the DR and NYC, was also popped for doping after "winning" the Univest race, where the "winner" of the first race placed "second." The third place rider in both races never saw the money or the recognition as the winner.

Funny you mention it. A few people evinced a bit of paranoia that Euris wasn't present. I think that was a joke, sort of. Is it me...or is the pre-reg for Sundays Prospect race suspiciously light in the 1/2/3 field ? On the heels of the recent local doping controls, perhaps some chaps are staying away until the naughty bits have left there blood streams ???? Me loves me a good conspiracy theory....
