I live under a rock, without sun, or running water.  That's why it took so long for me to upgrade; I didn't realize until too late how critical it was to memorize the Monster Manual of local racers until way too long.

Of course he tested positive. He's been riding/racing like a punk for Mengoni for 2 years now. If you go back and read some of my race reports (don't, I'll summarize here) from ToAD, I mentioned several times how Pollo Jr. was looking easy-breezy hanging out with the likes of United Healthcare at the front of the fastest, hardest crits in the world, and then with like 5 laps to go, he drops out. He did this at least two times that I witnessed.


Ask JP about how he goes from weak ass riding in PP one minute to scoring top 15 in NRC crits a few weeks later. Trying to be a good, not judgey person, I'd say bullshit like, "maybe he was having an off day" or "maybe he was using this as training.."

I know that you and JP called him out early, that's for sure.

His father was pissed after Cesar was disqualified for attacking in the joggers lane, a few weeks ago. I wonder what he feels like now. (maybe this belongs in the family man's thread).

USADA puts out a press release when a rider tests positive.  So when the word comes out, we'll see it on VeloNews first.  It's been six weeks, so enough time to notify the rider and give him the opportunity to request testing the "B" sample and then analyzing that. USADA also post the names of everyone tested, whether positive or not.  
"Please Note: the Individual Athlete Test History is updated through Q2 (June 30), 2013.  Q3, 2013 ends September 30th, and those numbers will be posted in the months following the close of the quarter."  

Disclaimer: the only upset I know about was for jogger's lane violation.He was convincingly upset. And I can attest to the fact that dads do not always know what their young adults are up to and certainly do not always approve.

The current rumor about doping infraction remains a rumor, and as JP implies, we should wait until we hear something official before passing judgement (I know it's hard, but its important to do the right thing).

It's just awesome when people test positive even when they're 95% sure they'll be tested. At least the other "suspects" were crafty enough not to show up!

In the past the rumors were fueled by leaks from within the governing/officiating bodies before the test results were public. I have no idea what the source is this time. Vlad?

The same thread mentions testing at Thater. If you look at the Thater results, you won't see Cesar in them. I'm pretty sure he was there.

Hey, just for fun, try to find his results on USA cycling. You might have gotten Van Dunked up a spot in some recent races. Might be because he's got an intl. license. Truth will come out sooner or later. I don't mind being wrong about this. Actually, I would prefer it. This makes the sport so lame.

I remember thinking Cesar had the look of a guilty winner when he was on the podium at Mengoni. Mind you, so did the other two.

Cesar Marte was hanging out at the Fort Lee Crit.  In a leaders jersey from the FBF series. Classy.  Definitely not racing.  He must have asked for the B-Sample to be tested.

Cesar will make the second Mengoni rider popped in their colors in the last several years, but two more recent alums also were dopers.  Alberto Blanco and Lisban Quintero.  All but Bunde had the same m.o., weak riding for a long time followed by a sudden boost of performance where they go from decent regional riders to almost national-level riders.  Bunde's racing picked up after he was tested, almost as if he assumed he'd never race again, so might as well take everything possible--like his "national championship".

If Cesar is announced positive then I agree that Mengoni needs to d something to save face.  That team is a local institution...maybe guys have always doped on that squad.  I don't know....I don't know how they choose riders, what there goals are for riders...etc.  I see an opportunity in the current situation for them...and it does not entail letting a sanctioned rider rejoin the squad as soon as their suspension is up with no contrition showed by neither team nor rider (helllooooooo Jared Bunde). Mengoni should shut down their operation for a year and reevaluate their core principals as a team.  Then they should pick riders with high character.  Why not contact USADA and see if it would be possible to have their riders volunteer to sign waivers of consent for much longer suspensions than the current 2 year ban?  Why not?  If you want to ride for Mengoni in the future, you have to sign a contract with USADA stipulating that you are willing to accept a 5 year ban for your 1st offense.  I would get behind something like that.  Clearly a 2 year ban is not enough...Lisban is back isn't he?

I know Mike....he rode for Foundation when he got pinched....I just mean the policy of saying that someone has served his suspension and we should just all pedal on like nothing happened is bogus....Bunde got nailed when on Mengoni, claimed his supplements were spiked and then rode for Mengoni again after his suspension = that sucked !  Turning that over in mind now...I am not surprised they have yet another positive rider on their hands (should the rumor be true)

Can someone explain to me why including a clause in your USAC license waving indemnity for winnings is so hard?  I mean, you sign up, you promise to be liable for any/all prize money you earn in the year you were caught, perhaps even times two - once to the race promoter and an equal amount to USADA.

This might just be the end of Mengoni. The old man might just bow out. I don't want to see it happen, but they're not much of a team now. They sure don't race like one. It's more like a posse. Time for the regulators to mount down if you ask me.
