Cyclocross!

Yes, been meaning to write a quick note about tires, specially now that the bulk order is open. Basically get a Clement MXP -- you are just getting started, so clincher with a normal tube should be awesome. If you think a little more traction or grip could help you, get the Clement PDX.

It'll be awesome.
Soooooo who thinks I should race cross on the Karate Monkey I'm building up at Redbeard? Click "hotness" for yes.
@Bobby Eloy's advice is right on. Clement MXP and Challenge Griffo are classic chevron tires that will be great for most courses except for muddy courses. The WTB cross boss is also a great option for fast grassy and dirt courses if you are looking to go tubeless and want a wider 35 (as opposed to 33) tire.

if you want tires that will also work well on muddy courses then Clement PDX is a great option. A lot of racers (including myself) ride it in a range of courses where you want grip.

If if this is your first year and you will only have one pair then I'd suggest PDX since it can be used on muddy and dry courses. If you are getting two pairs then it might be worth getting MXP (or one of the others I mentioned) for dry courses and PDX for muddy. If you are getting separate muddy tires you can also consider the popular Challenge Limus or Baby Limus tires.

@BenFinoRadin

the hotness would be seeing you at a cross race. Mtn bikes without bar ends are definitely a way to check it out
Thanks for the advice @Eloy and @PatrickG!
"I am so glad I never tried Cyclocross." - said nobody, ever.
"Holy shit that was insane. I think I vomited on myself, and I can't count how many times I crashed. I have grass on the inside of my shorts, somebody called me Yardsale McGhee and I think I just set a new personal best HR. Also, my face hurts from smiling and I cannot read the brand of my bike because it's covered in mud. When do I get to go again?" - says everyone, every time.
I'll be racing cyclocross starting in late sept/early Oct on that red parlee at redbeard. it's mine. pretty stoked.
When do you want to come to a CX clinic?

The board is planning to host a CX clinic at Cunningham Park (with Barriers, Tape etc.) and needs your input regarding interest and availability.

Given races the upcoming weekends, the following dates are open: Sept 9, 23, and 24*.

Please click to the doodle poll and let us know what dates you would be available.

We would like to make a decision ASAP so we can get the word out.

Thanks

Patrick

* Whirlybird is on 10th and Nittany on 16-17th
Hey, new guy here.  Cat 3 from Chicago.  Looking to race whirlybird this weekend provided there is a seat and bike room in a vehicle headed that way this weekend.  Please let me know!  (847)393-3122
@AnthonyOtt Welcome! I'm not heading to whirlybird bit planning on heading to both days of Nittany with a stay at a Hampton Inn. I have room if interested.

@GregStreiff congrats on the new bike. Can you make it to the cx clinic?

From the MAC Facebook page:

This warm weather has us thinking about summer and training for cx. Put these dates in your calendar for the MAC's 7 race series in 2017.
9/10 Whirlybird 'Cross
9/16-17 Nittany Lion Cyclocross
10/14 Cooper River Cyclocross/CRCX
10/28-29 HPCX
11/4 Fairhill CX - Cyclocross + Award Ceremony

A new race has been added to the 2017 MAC series. Kutztown on October 21st.

@PatrickG @GregStreiff @eloy

Count me in for both days of nittany and the remainder of the MAC series.  Bummed we weren't able to make whirlybird this weekend, but please let me know if anyone wants to do skills/drills this weekend.

I will sign up for nittany shortly.  Please keep me posted on logistics and who I owe for hotel/gas.

Quick update on the upcoming CX clinic.

Looks like the most popular date is Sunday September 24th.... however, some possible scheduling conflicts for the members organizing the clinic have cropped up.

Mark you calendars for the 24th from 9-12 at Cunningham Park for now. We might offer Sunday October 1st as a backup/alternative. I have updated the doodle poll to include Oct 1.

Please take a moment to update your poll to let us know whether you can make it the 1st (In case the 24th falls though).

More info will follow

Thanks

I will likely be there...today I figured out once again how "to get the beans on top of the frank"
oigh...

Does anyone go to CX practice on Weds at Randall and ride from BK?  Seems so far away!
I have not, but I did hear its going to be on hold for a few weeks because they got busted by the park people last week.
To be clear: Wednesday night practice is ON. Follow the FB group for details.

Keith, Lucia, and Vandivort, worked it out with the park's department, and have an official NYC' parks permit to hold CX practice. -- how awesome is that!?!?!!!

I have done it a few times, but I'll ride from work in Manhattan, and then ride back to Bklyn.

-- Worth noting, I plan to start my very unofficial CX practice in Prospect, tomorrow. Will post in a moment.

Cool, at least it would be nice to have people to ride with back to BK on Weds nights.  I'd love to join your cx practice @eloy, but the only mornings that will work for me are Thursdays as I have to be at work at 7:45am.
Hey @JillWhite I'll ride back with you on Wednesday. I'm also riding there from BK if anyone wants to join.
@philipginsberg yes, I'll probably be leaving from BK as well if I commit to going.
Just registered for Saturday and Sunday of Nittany.  I believe I will be headed out with @PatrickG .  Very much looking forward to meeting the Kissena Cross crew!
Update: looking for a ride to and from Nittany.  Who is going that may have extra space?  I would be willing to split the cost of a rental car as well.  Lodging considerations as well.  Please let me know!  Thanks!
@eloy have you heard anything abut NBX for this year?
@eloy have you heard anything abut NBX for this year?
It's usually on the later end of the season, like early December I think.
It is scheduled for December.
Sat 12/2 NBX
Sun 12/3 NBX
where's the pre reg?  that's in my neck of the woods!

NBX pre reg will come later in the year. Closer to December.
I am still looking for a ride to and from Nittany this weekend.  I will be racing both days and, therefore, looking to stay in a hotel near the race.

Before I make alternate plans to rent a car or do some sort of train/bus combo, I want to be sure there isn't room for one guy, a bike, and a backpack in a teammate's logistics.

It looks like KCC will be well represented.  Looking forward to meeting some new folks!

Please let me know!

Thank you,
Anthony

@AnthonyOtt - I'm racing the first race of the day on Saturday, 4/5 but I need to be back in the city by early afternoon. It doesn't help you but I just didn't want you to think no one's paying attention to your message.

My next race is Cooper river on October 14, if you need a ride.
