@AnthonyOtt I'm traveling for the next two weeks or I'd totally get you the third spot in our car. Look forward to racing w you in October!
My car needed its engine rebuilt (ugh) so I've been on the fence about Nittany. As of right now it looks like I am good to go for Saturday. Current plan is to give Anthony a ride. Let me know if someone else needs one as well.

I'll be there. Best high awesome race.

Let's chat about car sharing if possible.
anyone want to do this? https://www.bikereg.com/tmb-apple-cross
Whoa, who thought it was a good idea to have a separate w5 race, but combine the W2/3/4? Fools.
Update on the Cunningham cross clinic this Sunday

Kissena is hosting a Cross Clinic this Sunday the 24th at Cunningham Park from 9-11:30. This clinic will be held by Myles and Todd who probably have more experience racing on and setting up CX courses that anyone else in the club. Let them know what skills you want to practice. Afterwards there may be an opportunity to ride the trails on your CX bike. Confirm your attendance and discuss carpool info on this thread.

In addition to the clinic, don't miss Eloy’s "Look Sharp" weekday morning CX sessions in Prospect Park. He posts announcements on the forum.

However, if you are unable to make the clinic on the 24th or Eloy’s morning sessions email me directly at president@kissenacycling.com and I will arrange CX practice at Cunningham on the October 1st was well. You can never have too much cross practice.

Finally, if you are new to cross, there are many skilled cross riders in the club who would be happy to help you learn to master CX skills. Don't hesitate to ask in person or on the forum!

Is that saddle of yours suffer from leprosy??
no...on the way to the last Cunningham cx clinic...the Sling slung herself off my car rack...anyone want to buy one of my used bicycles?  very "lightly" used...
I had a great time racing a very hot Nittany course on Saturday.  Huge thanks to Patrick for taking care of the logistics and to Eloy for offering to do the same on Sunday had I not felt too spent to race again.  First class teammates!

I'll keep the backstory to a minimum.  Been dealing with an injury that has eluded diagnosis after nearly a year but continues to leave me with a numb right leg when cycling.  Managing symptoms and training has been a challenge.

I was very warmed up at the start line of the 3/4.  It must have been 85 degrees in the sun.  I knew the course well from last year and many warm up laps.  I started strong, getting mixed in with the rows ahead (rows 3 and 4) having started as 40th call up.  I didn't give up an inch as I knew the effort passes would take shortly thereafter.  It was a smooth field, so no real issues with a bit of shoulder bumping and tire rubbing.  I concentrated on being efficient throughout the race in order to reduce the burden on my legs and lungs.  The course had a ton of flow, so riding tape to tape ensured braking was minimized.  I think I netted zero places gained/lost from my position after lap one.  The field spread quickly.  I made some passes and got passed a few times.  Lacking the base fitness, I would lose time on the long straight aways.  I would regain it in the cornering.  In the end, I finished 35th on the day - beating my call up!

I look forward to continuing to meet the club in the coming weeks and months.  If anyone is registered or thinking about registering for a race or two this weekend, please let me know!  I may rent a Hertz car and do Town Hall Cross (right back near Allentown).  Let me know if you are interested.

So I just got a second hand cross bike that came with egg beaters, but I have SPDs on my mountain shoes. Anyone selling SPD pedals or egg beaters? Thanks!
redbeard should be able to easily get you the egg beaters cleats

@NuritEngelmayer email me at bonnaireth@gmail.com for more details.
Also, is anyone by any chance driving to Cunningham park on Sunday from Jersey? If you are, I'd be happy to hitch a ride, pay for toll roads gas coffee too :) (6464557070)
pent to race again.  First class teammates!

A year sounds like a long time to struggle; Illiac artery compression/torsion is an issue for cyclists sometimes. (You probably checked that first)

Hope you sort it out swiftly!

Holler....

AWESOME.
(altho I confess some concern that in none of the photos is Yacks doing it right. Everyone else looks like the perfect fire)
also, big time FOMO.
Eloy if you've ever seen the movie Splash...you would know "if something works for you...you stick with it".

Cyclocross coming up this week

The big race this weekend is KMC. Registration has closed, but guessing might re-open, as numbers are somewhat low.

This race moved to Connecticut last year, and both venue and organization left a bit to be desired -- which is why reg is low. Of course, their previous location/production/organization in Providence was, simply, the best in the country. Here's hoping for a much improved 2017.

All that said, if you wanna see or race the best in the nation this is the place to be. Depending on your category, you could even race Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. First stop of the new USCup CX series.

Hippocross

This is where most New Yorkers, and Kissena riders will be. Second stop of NJCX series, with a fast/fun course that is likely to benefit road fitness. It'll be awesome hardcore fun. I plan to be there.

I'm headed to Hippocross. Going to do the 4/5 40+ at 9:55 but need to head back to Brooklyn right after. I have room for 3 more if anyone else wants to do that race.
@jim_nelson , @philipginsberg was looking for a ride, not sure which field but maybe he could even do a 1 way ride and hitch back with someone else
It's CX season so I thought I'd post this, highlighting how the turn-before-the-turn can be so critical.

This is so #hotness; calling our Ellen Noble as a "special rider" and his praise for Stybar... he is all class.
@jim_nelson, i'm debating doing the 50+ field or the 4/5 40+
which one do you think will be more "fun"

The earliest field I can race at Hippo is Masters at 12:20 pm -- which I am signed up for -- would love to please catch a ride there and back.

Just in case, I have a zip car in reserve. If I drive myself, would leave from Park Slope at 8am and could take another rider and their bike.

(btw, as predicted, KMC reg re-opened)
