The headline says one thing , but the article and from what i've read in other sources ,doesn't make it clear that he is free to ride the world tour

-- they did this a few years ago with Matt Stephens, it was very good, the contrast bettween Matt (goofy, funny, master) and Emma (competitive, talented, focused) is stark.
Rebecca Fahringer is cyclocross and cyclocross is everything you want cycling to be.

Cyclocross coming up:

Next weekend (Sept 28 & 29) brings a couple of choices to race.

The biggest race in the world this weekend will be Jingle Cross in Iowa. World cup what what. The best in the world and US will be there.

KMC at Thompson CT

if the location/time is convenient for you, by all means go race -- obligatory mention on how far off this race has gone from when it was held in Providence. I hope they figure out how to listen to their audience. With a few exceptions, no one will be there.

Lucky Charm CX on Saturday,

New race in the old Craigmuer venue, part of the NJCX series, should provide cool mellow vibes, sweet challenging climbs, and even some stairs.

Cooper River, Sunday in NJ

Likely choice for most New Yorkers, arguably the smallest of the MAC races, brings a combo of local faire, good simple production, and well populated fields. This course is perfect if you are getting started (looking at you @niallsmart & @RobertPeras ) it rewards road fitness, and includes all the 180 turns in the world. I plan to be there.

let's go race bikes!
Everyone's been there

I like the Cooper river course. Eloy is right, if you're fit, you'll enjoy it. Except I can't make it Sunday so lucky charm it is.
Hey Rainey Park race is back!
Looks like a strong crew leaving from Brooklyn for Cooper river on Sunday.  Any room for one more?  I can ride down  from uws in the morning to meet up in Brooklyn.  Unfortunately, I can only race at 2:30 or 3:30.  Please let me know if we can make something work!

Listening to this thread as I too am hoping for a ride to Cooper River.
If all else fails, I have a zip car in reserve.

Booked a rental car for Saturday's race (Lucky Charm) from Fort Lee Hertz. Pickup at 9 and dropoff at 6.  It's an hour or less each way.  If anyone want to hop in with me, I would be happy to offer a lift.  The 1/2/3/4 40+ is on the course at 2:15.  I will be racing the 3s at the same time.
When the fort Lee Hertz has no cars despite 7 folks (including me) with reservations.  Looks like no racing this weekend after all.
Bummer Anthony :(

Upgrade Q. I have about 6 CX races under my belt and about 90 road races. Any guess on the chances of being approved for a 5->4 upgrade in CX based on that?
You need to do 10 races to upgrade.

(if you were a cat 2 or 3 on the road you could upgrade based on that)

4 more races is not much, could easily get it done in 2 weekends.
Cyclocross coming up..., this coming weekend brings

Charm City:

Simply, this is the best cyclocross race in the East Coast of the United States. Flat out. You owe to yourself to race there. Super hard climbs, biggest flyover in the universe, sandpits, stairs, awesome food, best heckle corner, most gorgs park. All the best cyclocrossers in the country will be there.

Caffeinated Cross, Saturday/

In Mullica Hill, NJ, guessing some NYers will be there. Should be a lot of fun.

Mansfield Hollow in CT Saturday.

Race Cross + Go Camping this Weekend

Soo this post definitely blurs the line between Cyclocross & 'Randonneuring, Adventure, and Tomfoolery,' but this weekend I will be headed up to North-South Lake State Campground Fri-Sun.

This weekend also happens to be the same weekend as two-day CX event 'Uncle Sam GP' in Troy, NY...only an hours drive further North! Both Sat/Sun Cat 4 races are at noon, reg here: https://www.bikereg.com/usgp2018

Message me if you are interested, there is room for at least another couple tents. Also, I have room in my car for one other + bike.

Edit: I checked & the campsite has running/drinking water & showers.
Cooper River CRCX. Quick report.
  • Don't call it a comeback
  • Jim Feehan and Barry Jones lined up. Default goals.
  • My small injury made me loose a brutal amount of fitness
  • It is noticeable at the start, I am sharp and clip in right away, but still loose places before the holeshot
  • No worries, keep pedaling
  • Eventually able to catch and pass Jim and Barry
  • Make a silly mistake in the more technicallish north section, find myself off the bike running up a corner on lap 1, omg! all these peeps are gonna pass me, luckily, no one does
  • End up with a group of 6ish or so, mostly on my wheel for a good chunk of the race
  • Jim is looking like the firah, and giving us hell, making it clear he can drop us anytime
  • It eventually explodes inside 2 to go when Jim attacks
  • He and another dude will get a few seconds
  • No one else gets around me
  • Surprisingly, find myself gaining time on the steps and corner barriers (by running them INSIDE, shorter line bro, duh)
  • Finished 21st. Better than predicted, but wonder if knowing I was close to top 20 would have pushed me harder, except I don't think I had any harder to give
  • Later, we grabbed great food truck foods, discuss Bertucco's new bike, and wondered who won worlds
Let's go race bikes!

Race Report - Uncle Sam Cyclocross GP in Troy, NY

This weekend I got to race Prospect Park twice. How is this possible you may ask? Well, after I napped the sting of Saturdays Fall Classic off I hopped in the car with my steel-framed Surly cross-check, picked up a 10-piece Popeyes chicken tender box (+ mashed potatoes) along the way, and headed upstate to North-South lake state campground. I had already booked the site for the weekend and couldn’t help but incorporate cycling after a last minute change in plans for the weekend.

But before I get into my first Cyclocross experience, here is a photo of the beautiful upstate NY roadside scenery just North of Saugerties.

So after spending the night in a tent, I packed up camp (in total darkness) and headed an hour further North toward Albany for Uncle Sam Cyclocross GP! I arrived in the other Prospect Park (the one in Troy, NY) with enough time to ride the course for a bit before the start.

It was a damp, mildly-humid morning after some showers. There were a few patches of mud, but my tire choice (my only CX tires) seemed appropriate for the mostly wet, grassy course. We lined up approx. 20 strong and after the two min warning (and a strategic swig and toss of my water bottle) my first Cyclocross race had begun!

After sprinting my way up to the front I made it through some of the days obstacles and hung onto the main group for about half of the race. After losing some time on some of the more challenging obstacles, I found myself somewhere between the main group and the stragglers for much of the race. My road fitness is the only thing that kept me from falling further behind, as I need a lot of practice on the obstacles. The course was marked well and there was a collection of every type of obstacle that I am aware of. Eloy posted a link to some really great drone footage of the course above. The winner ended up with a average speed 1mph faster than me (in a 6 mile race).

There was this one section of the course in which one would go through a steep uphill  90 degree turn (off camber) to a very steep and sudden downhill, to an immediate 180 degree turn at the bottom and back up. On the last lap I went full-send on the downhill and began braking too early, resulting in me sliding down the second half of the descent on the side of my face and shoulder. My skinsuit has the grass stains to prove it, which appear to have bonded to my kit on a molecular level.

Everything people told me about Cyclocross was confirmed in this race. To summarize in no partciular order…I got dirty (check), my avg heart rate looked like I had flatlined (check), and I had the most fun I’ve had on a bike since I first started racing road (check). Looking forward to my next race!

“CX is everything you want bike racing to be”
Shooting for Hippo Cross this weekend, my first of the season! Also, answering my own question about upgrades from earlier in this thread ... it turns out 5 CX races is enough for a voluntary upgrade to Cat 4. Boom. Heading out for the 11:30am race from Dumbo if anyone needs a ride.
So this was HippoCross

It’s been a very, very muddy season so far.
I think I read it was a new purse this year. I’d love to hear about the course (and the mud!)
It's a small area. Small local park. Not as bumpy as last year's. Also a bit more technical than last year's  Hard to tell whether the course is good or not  But today was just a slog through grass and mud. 5 people in cat 4 race broke their rear derailleur hanger. Alyosha pulled out on first lap because his chain wouldn't stay put. I had the same issue because of all the caked in mud and grass clogged up everything. Had shifting issues too.

I'd like to come back next year when it's dry.
I totally admire you CX guys! Had no interest until seeing the various pictures. Maybe next year.

Van Aert's gets his first win !

"I don't think Mathieu not being here took anything away from the win," Van Aert told Het Nieuwsblad

Can't say i agree with him

So this was HippoCross

`You guys and your fancy frames with down tubes...see what it gets you ??? a mud cannon aimed straight at your drive train
Mud NEVER clogs my down tube...mostly because I don't have one
