. I'm going to start saying, instead of "I'm going to google that," "I'm going to Kissena that."
Love it. Wait, isn't that what you already do?

Let's start figuring out rides/ flights Marc. Master's 30-34 Nats is my goal this CX season.
Coolio. If I go, it will be with family too, but we'll definitely stay in touch throughout the season. Related, I haven't noticed your name on any of the early season race start lists. The MAC series and New Jersey races typically do "order of registration" staging. Wouldn't want you to get buried in the back if you normally would have a shot at placing.
My first CX race this season will probably be Caffeinated Cross near Mullica Oct 4th. Looking at the pre-reg for Nittany and Baltimore with 110 guys in the B race doesn't sound like fun to me. I'm extending my road season into October. Floyd races go until 10/26!!

Anyone looking to carpool to Caffeinated Cross 10/4 who can fit 2 bikes please contact me. Looks like Nelson and Joe are reg'd so far. Only 8 registered as of right now for the B race. Guaranteed top 10!
Officially Reg'd for Caffeinated Cross 10/4 and Whirlybird 10/11, racing the B's. If anyone wants to split a rental car hit me up. I'll be bringing 2 bikes both days so we can work a van rental or a car with a rear rack.
Joshua, Patrick and I spent roughly 15 hours beating the crap out of ourselves practicing dismounts and remounts at least 1000 times today with Adam myerson and his merry band of cyclocross fiends. Tomorrow, we all get tattoos and very large holes placed into our ear lobes

CX Clinic Announcement!

When: Saturday, August 16, 9am
Where - Cunningham Park, Queens (199th St & Union Tpke)
What: CX Clinic - riding around and learning how to corner, shoulder, run, race, ride better.
Why: Because you want to be better before you start to race.

What to bring? CX bike, helmet, food, water bottle (water available across the street near tennis courts), extra tube
a healthy dose of humility if you're new as it takes a leap of faith to leap back on the bike
a sunny disposition as there are no downers in cross

If anyone has barriers (Patrick) you can bring those too.

What we'll do (from 2011 clinic - Ride to MTB trails and cruise around them for a while.
Then to the fields for dismount / remount practice, cornering practice, shouldering and running practice, race strategy discussion, simulated race.)

If someone wants to lead people out there from GAP, they can. I will drive so I can bring cones, repair tools and tubulars to shake down before Nittany)
@eragot

Can this be moved to Sunday?

There's a race Saturday in Prospect Park, it would be great to race Sat, and then Cunningham on Sunday.
I am on fire island for 2 weeks but can be home for the Saturday clinic. Sunday is out. We can do clinic after race. Shouldn't be that hard.
gonna try to be there. have to be out in the hamptons later that evening.
Anyone have a 50-52 tt pit bike I can borrow for the clinic?

I'm waiting for a few parts to come in and won't have a built bike by this weekend.
Gloucester just opened.

I reg'd for Town Hall. Points hunting like a baby.

Wah. That race is going to be hard. Wah wah. I have a better chance elsewhere wah.

I'm starting to get ready for the season, and I have an important question. Can anyone provide some advice on using last year's wheels with last year's tires still glued on? I examined them today, and except for a couple of spots where the tape has been exposed, they seem fine. I re-glued those areas, wrapped duct tape around the tire to press it against the rim, and inflated. In a couple of areas, the glue comes off in powder form when I rub my hand along the rim. Is it best to strip the tires of and re-glue, or is touching up where necessary cool? If re-gluing is the way, what is the best way to remove the old glue/tape, and can I reuse the tires, or chuck them and start again? Any help would be appreciated.
If at 20 lbs pressure you can push the tire off, reglue. If it holds
ok thanx...i will try. push as hard as i can, or within reason?? I suppose they could be ripped off no matter how well they are glued on, if one tried hard enuff.
deflated . . . yes
inflated . . . no
That's why you go for aiddle ground. If deflated you couldn't get then off, that just shows how weak you really are. That's why I go partially inflated. Basically if it rolls off pretty easy, reglue. If not, go for it. I have some rarely used CX tubs going on season 3!
How weak I am has nothing to do with it!!!!
Got it. they hold on while deflated, seem fine inflated. I just don't want to muscle them like mad if not necessary. Will touch up where needed, and ride 'em. thanx.
anyone up for organizing a practice session at cunningham in the next couple of weeks? maybe the 24th??

I'm building up a cross bike and completely new to CX, so appreciate any CX 101 pointers on this build...

Cranks are my last missing component to build up a CX bike: Trek frame, Shimano 105 Group, Hollowtech ii bb, 10 speed, 12/27 cassette. Shorty 4 brakes

Any opinions on the Shimano CX50 46/36 crank for $91 at chainreactioncylces?  Price seems right and 46/36 with a 12/27 seems like a good all around combo.

Thanks!

I'm sure others will chime in here, but a 46 tooth big ring is all but useless. Most guys run a 42, if I'm not mistaken. I personally have a 48 and that's an utter joke. I've used it like twice in my life in actual cross racing.

46/36 is a totally normal and fine front chainring combo. It is basically "stock" on most new bikes.

Marc is confused on this one. A 42 front chainring might be nice if you are doing a 1x10 setup, but not for a dual front chainring.

It's not the first time me haz confusee....must not respond to gear questions in future! Thanks for the correction!

Joe and I joined 30+ riders tonight at the 7pm Randalls island practice.

There was a cool course set up. We started with some hot laps to warm up. Then we went to 2-up racing to practice passing, 2-up barriers, and general elbow to elbow combat position.

From there we moved on to the very common fast u-turn at speed, from multiple directions. Did that about 25 time. Cool to get a feel for it and practice multiple lines and speeds.

Then we did about 10 starts to hole-shots. Pretty exhausted by the end of it all. About 2 hours of practice.

If weeknights are not your thing, get your ass out to Cunningham park this Saturday for Eric's cross clinic. If you wanna ride a cross bike fast, you gotta practice. Hope to see you there!

yes.
Just to point out that I'm racing Prospect tomorrow, rather than the CX practice.
fitness over skillz. at least for tomorrow.
I probably could be easily persuaded to do both, but will decide last minute --- in any case, unlike Patrick, please don't expect me to have legs.
I'm leaving 830. Be at my place and you get a ride Eloy!
