While not the best deal, these would certainly be solid set of race wheels for someone looking to get on some cross tubs.

Just checked mine from last year and all but one looks good - of course I think I went through a full set so these are what I glued in November. The Challenge Chicanes got great reviews last year. Excited to give them a whirl.

I think what makes these compelling is no need to aquaseal the sidewalls. Already covered in rubber. One less step before you're ready to rock and roll on them.

Challenge has sealed sidewalls. It's really only the Dugasts that need the extra work.

Unfortunately, Yacks, tubulars are kind of mandatory for cross racing. I'm not sure why anyone still considers them for the road. Isn't there all kinds of evidence that shows a high quality clincher is actually faster/less rolling resistance?

And unless you are a hard core, hard cornering crit rider, I think the whole "road feel" argument is a little overblown. Anyway, a supple set of high end clinchers with latex tubes on wide rims are a beautiful thing. (says the hard core crit racer, imo)

In other news, now that you've peeked your head above water on the forum Chris, it occurred to me that with your explosive power, and off-road background, you might really enjoy cross racing. Or does your back make that a non-starter?

hey @Jules I've got a 2012 Defy that i keep downtown in my parent's basement due to lack of storage in my apt. Size L so should fit the bill. In good shape, comfy, equiped with Ultegra. Look Keo pedals attached. Hasn't been tuned in a while but can make it to Piermont I'm sure. Let me know if you're interested and I can figure out how to get it to you.

That’s not a typo.  These are in the weight range of low profile carbon wheels.  For the first time, I am buying rims with someone else’s name on them – Ryde.  As I understand it, Ryde is somewhat of a sister company to Sapim.  It’s the same factory that started making rims in 1908 under the name of Rigida in France but now manufacturers rims globally.  I met the Ryde people with the Sapim guy at The Sea Otter and liked what they have.  All they make are rims.  I like that.  Just like Sapim who only makes spokes.
