re: Carbon&Aluminium RaceDayWheels - &DEALs!!!!

hi ALL,
i've just negotiated another great deal with my wheel builder in Greenville, SC for a set of carbon disc clinchers; Chris Plantic of "Off The Front Racing Systems." This wheel-set will take more than 450gram off my current ALUM set and bring my disc brake CX Bike more inline with my previous Cantilever Brake CX Bike @$950.00  &1563g.

OTF has been able to attentively service me (2011-16) with rims, hubs and spokes comparable to Boyd Cycling (a neighbor and another great dealer) at a considerable discount.

I highly recommend those considering w/ Climbing, Floyd, Battenkill, Catskills, CX, aspirations to look-up OTF online and give Chris a call...

Let me know via email/text if you have questions.

i don't own any tubulars so i'm not really sure if this price is actually that great but here's some grifos for $74.95 http://www.bikehubstore.com/product-p/chgrifo-setaex.htm
So this is pretty interesting, in a move to stabilize pricing, and attempt to maintain prices in the US, SRAM has basically banned UK websites from selling to the US.

http://www.bicycleretailer.com/international/2016/10/26/sram-claims-victories-retail-pricing

A search for SRAM products using the US website produces no results.

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/us/en?_requestid=8374293

Updating that to UK, gets me their SRAM landing page

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/sram?keywordRedirectTerm=sram&_requestid=8374770

However, I only have a UK shipping option after I place a product into my Cart.

I have purchased several SRAM products from CRC over the years, mainly because of price.

And here's a comparison.  The SRAM Red XG1090 11x23 in the US

$244.99
https://www.biketiresdirect.com/product/sram-red-xg-1090-x-dome-cassette

UK, £137.69 (on a discount), which is currently about $167.36
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/sram-red-xg1090-10sp-cassette-powerdome-x-/rp-prod82895

A little closer in price.  XG-1190

$279.00
https://www.biketiresdirect.com/product/sram-red22-xg-1190-a2-cassette

$259.00  (£213.49)
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/sram-xg-1190-11-speed-road-cassette/rp-prod108132

UK has always been consistently lower, even with shipping charges.  But now they can't ship to the US.
I blame Trump.

It's supposed to help shops like Redbeard.  But it also helps any retailer who wanted to hold the line on prices.

By contrast, Shimano does little in this regard.  Retailers have complained about Shimano grey-market pricing, and never seem to be heard.

wait what?  powertap users?  people using those should probably be made aware of this as well:

This is the only guy I know of that would still need that

If you have any old, even nonworking gopro, you can mail it in to them for $100 off a new one. https://shop.gopro.com/tradeup
Selling a Powertap wheel: Powertap Pro (2012), and newly built wheel, 32 hole model laced to a Velocity A23 rim, by Redbeard in March 2016.  I originally purchased the Powertap from @jim_nelson last year, and was my first power meter. Super reliable, really helped track my performance.

$250 for the Powertap and wheel.  Can drop off at Redbeard on April 28 when I'm back in NYC.
^ Aight Kissena's, I'm ready to make a deal on this ... taking offers!  Would love to find this a new home while I'm in town this weekend so give me your best!
figured this falls under the "steals" category. looking for some advice. just went outside to find my felt brougham was stolen. is it even worth filing a police report? i've never heard of a stolen bike being recovered. how have others handled a stolen commuter bike?
Dude that is so bad. So much violation. What rat bastards.
Unless it's a super rare ride, I'd file it under dropped my keys in pool of lava.
Sorry for your loss.
thx @Jules and @JohnMalcolmson
rat bastards indeed. a reminder that bad people people exist. my guess is whoever stole it knew the bike was there and had been waiting for an opportune moment to to get it. they knew no one would be around to hear or see it get stolen on a rainy night like tonight. really pisses me off.
At moments like these I try and console myself that whomever stole it has a far, far worse lot in life than you. Cold comfort, I know.
@GregStreiff i am assuming your bike isn't registered with the NYPD. They engrave the BB of your bike with your driver's licence number. it probably doubles your chances of the cops recovering your stolen bike from 0.0025% to 0.005%. NYPD doesn't give a $%@~! about drivers killing cyclists, why would they care about a stolen bicycle?

You're better off setting up a Craigslist alert for some keywords for the bike and keeping your eyes open for that bike on the street in your neighborhood. I hope you have photos of the bicycle in it current condition/setup.

@GregStreiff

Somewhere else in this forum, you can find @Jules story of doing just as Dan suggests.  You can use Google alerts to scan NYC Craigslist on a daily basis for Felt bikes in as many permutations as you want.
what i've heard of happening is look on craiglist and alert police when you've schedule a meeting with the seller. they will take over. cops will advise you not to do the meeting  yourself under the strange assumption that the people who commit larcenies are predisposed to violence. but that was with high-value electronics items that have serial numbers. did you record your bike's serial #?

That's how we found our Extracycle.
Sorry to hear about this.  I felt pissed and helpless when mine got taken.

Most people don't report stolen bikes.  I didn't when mine got stolen.  But reporting them increases the statistics, and increased stats can mean more awareness and maybe someday it will be taken seriously.
I do now have current pictures of my bikes, I have the serial numbers recorded, and on my commuter, I used a sharpie to write my initials on the bottom of the down tube and BB, just in case I ever need to make a quick ID in the street.  The last thing I want is a cop saying I can't prove it's my bike so everyone gets arrested.

Interesting to note, State Bikes gives you $100 off if you submit a police report.  I think this is a great idea for bike stores, to sell more bikes and also help increase those stats.

Greg
Two summers a go my wife's bike was stolen from the garage , i filed a police report, mainly because of a spate of garage break ins on my street , finding the bike was secondary , about 5 cops showed up and asked if i was cooking garlic bread ? i sent photos of the bike to the detective,
Then , last summer while out in my neighborhood , i spoted a guy riding her bike , i called the cops and they responded right away , i showed the email i sent to the detective as proof that it was my bike and the cops made the guy hand over the bike
I would report it

Thanks to everyone for guidance! I will report the bike stolen tonight and put up some craigslist notification things. I also asked the ice cream girl that works at the
Uncle Louie G's down my block to check their security camera log. There are probably a few other stores around I could follow up with too.

do this asap, lots of surveillance cameras record over themselves every 14-90 days.  also when you show up you may find that the "manager" isn't there and whoever is there doesn't know how to preserve the footage, causing you to have to return

also check to see if there are any NYPD cameras at the intersection where it was stolen.  most store cameras do not capture anything other than the immediate front of the store, looking inwards into the store.
I happened to look at Steephill.tv today to look at who was carrying the Giro. There is an option to get legitimate streaming of the Giro for $14. It appears that this offer is only good today May 3. This link explains how it works.

Seems like it might be a viable alternative to VPNS or pirated feeds. The crazy thing is that the regular rate is over $40 a month. Apparently one has to buy a bundle with a lot of stuff we don't need. I don't see that as a viable and plan on cancelling the service once the Giro is over. They do carry a bunch of other races like Flanders, Tour of Romandie, MSR and others. If the service works well I might rejoin next spring.

Note that you subscribe for a month for $5 through Stack Social. When you redeem the coupon you add the cycling package for $9. Complicated, but hopefully worth it.

Quick update on my stolen felt brougham. oddly enough, I think I found it on craigslist. Have an email chain going with the guy, as does a friend of mine. only thing is my bike was a medium, and the post claims the bike to be a 58. buttttt the post also states the bike fits someone that is 5'10" and I'm 5'10"   :s:#:/
my bike was technically gray, this bike looks black...but he could have painted it.

could also be a coincidence. we'll see.

anyway, here's the link: https://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/bik/6111287357.html

disregard my last post. It's definitely a 58. the seller sent some more pictures and I was able to deduce. false alarm. apologies. I thought for sure I had caught the rat bastards.  :'(

^ no photo to compare?
my bike is the top photo, bike on craigslist is bottom photo.

if you compare the distance between where the top tube and down tube connect to the head tube, you can tell the bike on craigslist has significantly more space between the points of connection.

Yeah, nuh.
