Nominating & Accepting Nominations

Thank you Mark, I gladly accept your nomination for Development Director!

Having been a member of Kissena for a few years now, I have developed from a casual ‘Cat6’ commuter and ‘tour de NYC’ fun-rider to a competitive cyclist and teammate. The advice, training, and camaraderie I have received from being a member has been very rewarding and I’d now like to give back to the club as your Development Director.

I have come to learn that your successful development as a cyclist depends not only on your self-motivation, but also by the resources available to you. The right bike, proper nutrition, skills, and fitness are all major contributors to your successful development.

If I am elected as your Development Director, I will ensure that:
  1. The member development program is aligned with the goals of the club as a whole
  2. The current and future development needs of each member are met through a mentor program, goal setting, and skill development
  3. Member development resources are made available to all members, both riders and racers alike
Thank you and I hope you are excited about what I can contribute as Development Director.

Well done @JohnOlsson!

I decline my nomination for Development Director, and nominate @JohnMalcolmson for Development Director!

Watching the board for the past few years has been a delight. Professional, committed and moving the club forward. I'm stoked to see the trend continuing into 2019.

Second!!
I nominate @Bruce van-Schalkwyk
for VP
Thanks Will, I am game for the nomination

For those who have been nominated, I encourage you to post a short bio and what you hope to bring to the role.
Thanks, Mark, for the support, I appreciate it.
I accept the nomination for VP.

I'd also like to put forth my own nominations, because I think these are great people and are great for the team and I'd like to see their continued presence on the Board.

I nominate Jim Nelson for Secretary, in the hopes he can give a transparency to the team for what the Board does and how they decide the direction we take.

I nominate Patrick Grehan for Sponsorship Director, because the team could use more money, and I think his personality is well suited to convincing companies we're a worthy cause, simply because we are.
Thanks Bruce - I accept the nomination for Secretary.
I nominate Eloy for PR.
While I appreciate Bruce’s nomination and would still like to serve on the board, I am going to decline the nomination for Sponsorship director and nominate Erik Pfiffner for this position. I think he has the skill set, energy and time that this position requires
I get that, and second your support for Erik.  I think it's important to bring in new Teammates to the Board, new faces who can work with our experienced teammates and learn what it means to move our collective vision forward, and no doubt teach the Board as well.
This is a great nomination.
To the Team, then, I humbly remove my acceptance for VP and instead nominate Patrick to the position.
Patrick has been an incredible, and invaluable, driving force for the Team, leading the Board through difficult financial times and making difficult decisions.  He helped bring in a great deal for training plans, oversaw the Board get a reduction to the Vanilla forum costs, stayed the course as dozens of members jumped ship over higher dues because of the financial difficulties, and probably most important, guided us through an emotionally difficult time, for the Team, and for a lot of individuals as well, during Phil's death and during his memorials.
I can't think of anyone who could have done a better job for us.
He continues to act as a crucial liaison with Charlie and local racing, and does the same with Cyclecross, which he gets into with a passion.
As a person, when I delicately let him know how fucking bullshit I was over the increased dues, he maddeningly stayed calm and accepted my complaints with grace, and with explanations I couldn't refute.
Patrick should stay on the Board, one way or another, because of the work he has done and the work I know he will do in the future.
Besides, the contributions I'd like to make to the Team don't necessitate my being on the Board to make them.
I've helped in lead-outs, have swept wheels, and have sacrificed my position for the good of a faster teammate.  And I'm happy to do it once again.
Wow. I appreciate the kind words, Bruce. I also appreciate the nomination and your willingness to lead me out. I love how you write and hope to read another one of your short stories soon.

I am dedicated to helping this club grow and thrive and accept the nomination as VP so that I can continue doing so and support Will or whomever is elected president next year.

Bruce, while someone has been nominated for each board role this year, I think you should consider running for a position that suits you. You have an ability to think creatively that may potentially be maddening (ha! I’m not the only one who can be maddening!) but would be invaluable on the board. I suspect that others reading your last post feel similarly.
Thank you @PatrickGrehan I accept your nomination for Sponsorship Director!

I have been a member of Kissena for just over a year now and I have been lucky enough to meet the majority of Kissena members through group rides, races, dive bar socials, and snowy Cyclocross events.  In 2018 I tackled my personal goal of upgrading from a CAT 5 to a CAT 4 and I had the privilege of spending several hours with many fit, smart, and dedicated members.  If we have not met, please feel free to reach out!

As Sponsorship director I will demonstrate value to our sponsors and maintain an open dialogue to ensure Kissena is able to operate and compete at a high level.  Additionally, I aim to increase our footprint within NYC and the northeast by seeking out additional sponsors in the form of cash and products so we can excel both operationally and on the tarmac.

Happy Holidays to all.  Very excited for Kissena in 2019!

Reminder that nominations will close tonight at midnight. In the next few days you will receive a personal link via email for voting. I’ll announce here when they have been sent.

Current nominations are:

President: Will Kalbacker
Vice President: Patrick Grehan
Treasurer: Giacomo Vischi
Sponsorship Director: Erik Pfiffner
Technology: John Powell
Development: John Malcolmson
Secretary: Jim Nelson
Public Relations: Eloy Anzola
Membership: John Olsson

Hi, thanks, John, I accept the nomination for Public Relations.

While I've been in the club for a few years, and many of you know me, feels like I should write a little about myself.

Been racing bikes for about 30 years, with a few gaps here or there. Started with mountain bikes, quickly moved to road crits and stage racing, even a few duathlons thrown in, and eventually, much later, made it to Prospect Park and North East Mid Atlantic Cyclocross.

During the day I work as a Technology Director at R/GA, where I've been for a while. There I've been lucky to work on plenty of digital and social media campaigns for some cool clients. Just in 2018, I've worked on projects for Nike, Johnson & Johnson, Samsung, Verizon, Lego, Mercedes-Benz, and even advised Hammerhead on their Karoo cycle computer.

For Kissena's PR, we have to keep looking sharp on our social media channels, trying to stay relevant, keep growing our community, our relationship with the Prospect Park Alliance, and showcasing our amazing partnerships with Redbeard Bikes and Velocious, while keeping you at the center of it all.

Let's do this.

OK, the emails have been sent with your personalized election link.

Let me know if there are any problems. Happy voting!

Be sure to check your spam/junk folder if you don't see the email.
I voted!!! It’s kinda weird voting when there’s only one person to chose from. Maybe there’s a way of enhancing this next year?
@RobertPeras I too voted and thought I was the only one that felt that way. That being said, I love the process and look forward to the new year under our new board. Long live Kissena cycling 🚴‍♀️!
All the more reason you guys should consider running next year. The more that members are involved and invested in the club, the better for the club
At one time, it was the Daves vying with the Marks for domination, after both crushed the Erics.
Stealthily, the Johns might be taking over.
NO COLLUSION!
@JohnPowell @mugwump hilarious! I look for some very eventful group rides.

Club - It is time to select a Board of Directors for 2020

Nominating is officially open and will close at midnight on Tuesday, December 17th.

Post a nomination and accept a nomination in this thread.  Every club member has the power to nominate anybody who is up for the task (first make sure that the person you choose is OK with it). And yes, you can nominate yourself.

Current board members should indicate whether they wish to run for a position. The most productive boards have had a combination of new board members as well as those who have experience on the board. In other words, we highly encourage members who have not served on the board to become involved.

For those who are accepting these nominations, it is recommended that you write a small paragraph about what you can bring to the club.

Elections will be done online – you will receive a personal email with your voting link within a couple of days after the close of the nomination period.

For general information regarding the officer duties, the Club Bylaws and 2019 Board documents are accessible at the top right of the forum page which include descriptions of the responsibilities of each position.

As a reminder the 2019 Board consists of:

President: Will Kalbacker

Vice President: Patrick Grehan

Treasurer: Giacomo Vischi

Sponsorship Director: Erik Pfiffner

Technology: Thomas Chen

Development: John Malcolmson

Secretary: Jim Nelson

Public Relations: Eloy Anzola

Membership: John Olsson

If you have any questions about the responsibilities and what it’s like to serve on the board feel free to ask any of us.

Happy nominating!
