I read it this past weekend. Very novel take on the story; the fabricated "single impoverished mother" story was an eye opener, as was the final excerpt of dialogue - if you can call it that. What amazes me most is that Steve Johnson is coming out of this without so much as a footnote. He should have been fired years ago.

I'm finding the Allen Lim stuff not so believable....he is a shameless opportunist. And Lance? I'm waiting for the movers to seize his last bike as the word "Rosebud" leaves his mouth...

Lim seems not to have learned the first rule of misdeeds: it's the cover-up that gets you in more trouble.  Seems that not getting paid by Landis is getting $80k from him, even though Lim claims not getting paid now equals $7k.

Nor does he seem to have learned anything for LA's failed ad-Hominem attacks on Floyd's mental health.

I just got done reading that.  I read Cycle of Lies and the Lim stuff seemed at first a revelation and then after about 24 hours my bullshit filter kicked in and it stunk so bad I don't know how I could have believed one word of it.  That guy is such a lying opportunist.  He really is a bad guy.  The secrets are out, why would he keep lying like this?  If he would just come out and say "the riders had to dope to win back then and I was hired to help facilitate it....but that era is over and I'm really excited to work in a sport that has finally embraced clean competition"....that would be it...case closed...no further questions.   But Lim is a shit bird and can't help to revise history to fit his own narrative.  To me he is a liar and a cheat...I propose if somebody went back and looked at his doctoral work they would likely find shit he plagiarized and embellished.  I think the University of Colorado should investigate his work as he has clearly shown a lack of professional ethics.

@Yaks I think he's lying because doping is still a crime in France and he's on the hook for aiding, abetting and probably storing, procuring, transporting and administering doping products in the USA, Spain, Italy, UK, France and beyond...

Jules that's great and all but why the hell is he giving interviews to people exonerating his own actions when Floyd is sitting on a checkbook full of cashed checks?  All Lim has done is make the people interested in investigating him more curious. Don't march on Moscow...Don't get involved in a land war in China and Don't fuck with Floyd when he has the goods on you !

But Lim was the guy lots of bike writers were all happy to genuflect towards and afraid to ask any critical question of.  Don't think they'll be doing that again for some time.

I don't really follow journalism at large, but the bike writers seem to be extraordinarily timid.

I don't have big problem with this...baseballs drug problem paralleled cycling's.  The people in charge of the sport were complicit and enabling.  If Bonds wants to take his $$$ and give it women's cycling so be it.  As long as he is not making checks out to the UCI or WADA or USA Cycling....

FWIW- The David "Tiger" Williams she writes about in "Cycle Of Lies" who helps out Landis is the same David Williams who accidentally killed a homeless man while racing a CRCA time trial in Central Park in August of 2005. After which--I've been told--he donated an undisclosed sum to the Central Park Conservancy.  I'm surprised that the author doesn't mention that (or perhaps I haven't gotten there yet).  Not that it's really relevant to the story she's telling, but it certainly adds a Bonfire-of-the-Vanities-like quality to the character.
P.S.-Also agree with those above who suggest that Lim's story seems terribly flawed and  that this is the best of the Armstrong books yet.

@Nelix she never gets to the death-by-tt-machine story, which is a minor horror in itself.

I was in that TT and was neutalized when I came up on the scene.  It was just before cat's paw at the little downhill chicane were you can ramp up some speed before the hill.  The NYPD were grilling Tiger about why he was riding his bike so fast.   Here is a little known fact about that incident...Tiger was riding Floyd's old carbon Trek TT bike...Floyd had given it to him, it still had Floyd's name on the top tube.  

@Yacks. Yikes. Interesting detail. I was told by a reliable source who was there, that Williams carried his bent TT bars (from the crash) with him to inter bike the following month and walked around the show (wearing a neck or back brace) clutching the bars. He also apparently got Hincapie to sign the bars on the flight into Las Vegas on Armstrong's plane. Not judging him because he obviously went through a horrifying ordeal - accidentally killing someone - but such an odd Shakespearean way to cope.

@Jules- Actually I don't think it was a tall tale.  This was first hand reportage.   I'll give you more of the background and specifics next time we end up riding together.  Then we can depose the source if necessary   : )  Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.  Anyway....
