What's the deal with helmets this year? Are we on our own?

Thinking pretty hard about that Smith helmet.

Vlad's  that Smith one reminds of the original Rollerball helmets...if you've never seen, I highly recommend

Give Smith another year to work out the kinks.  I'll be interested to see if the UnitedHealthCare team pushes for changes in the helmet in some way.
I vote for the Catlike
It would be awesome if we all get the same brand obviously.

My votes in order: Giro, POC, Catlike. No on Smith or Lazer.

Ultimately, I care more that we all ride the same, than which one.
The deal is this: the club will continue to buy new Cat 3's helmets when they upgrade. We would like people to stay with Fluro Orange.

Obviously we'd like to be able to provide consistent (and free to riders) helmets but it's not something we're in a position to do right now.

Once we finish reincorporation and have some new revenue sources available we'll revisit it.

Everyone loves the model where we all have samesame helmets.
I should also note that we'll work to provide a deal on a particular helmet to facilitate the same helmet ideal.
as a cat 4 , should i be buying an orange helmet, if and when i need a new one ?
.
Personally I'm not enamored of the fluro orange helmets, since our kit is not fluro. Out of the above I think the catlike has the correct shade of orange. Also LAS helmets have a number of models that are Kissena orange.
It's not about matchy matchy Paul Smith. It's about being able to see my teammate up the road. In that case, fluro wins every time.
Definitely all about matchy matchy and look like a team.
Says the dude that doesn't race road... where visibility matters most.

JP, did you see that helmet at Interbike? It's all vertical vents and no through-flow. Vanya wore it and overheated riding an electric bike downhill.

I did.  That's why I'm expecting that this pro team sponsorship will change the helmet.
One other option to consider is

Really hard to insert image from iPad. Here is link:

The catlike above is cost prohibitive.  It is more expensive than POC. The Giro, POC and Kask are all options at this point.
Ooh, Kask! I just ordered a Bambino for my wind tunnel sesh next week. Would be nice to make road and TT a family affair.
That Kask is sweet
Giro, POC or Kask -- all look awesome. What's needed so we please pick just one?

Vlad

wind tunnel!?

Nice to see you're targetting TTs after your good results last season. Where are you doing a wind tunnel session? Didn't know there was a facility in the north east.

Craig, can you clarify please...is Rudy Project a team sponsor in 2015?
Marc

As announced by Bruce in his post re the 1/23 board meeting

"Rudy has been dropped as a sponsor.

We can get POC and Giro Helmets through the Club's store sponsor Redbeard."

Giro, please!

My POC helmet is the nicest piece of kit I've ever owned and the color works perfectly. It would take something very special to get me to switch.

I think I may get me one of them this year too.  Which model?
