At the Belgian Waffle Ride this year, a non-race race, the guy face planting below, with a road bike and road shoes, ended up winning.

Judging by the guy going by him on foot, it seems that road shoes and tire were the way to go.  Gravel bike was optional.

Attention Gearheads!  I am in the market for a power meter.  Leaning towards a pedal type (Garmin Vector 3S) due to installation simplicity.  I honestly know close to nothing about power meters so any insight and advice would be greatly appreciate.  Thank you!

maybe i'm just high on the marketing hype and suffering from confirmation bias (and "i don't want to admit i spent money for no benefit bias") but the ride quality seemed so much better.  apparently one of the major areas of progress with carbon rims has been making them more compliant and bump-absorbing.  

i'm starting to think i really want some for cx... although this set would work for CX, can you ever have too many wheels?)

as far as comfort...my light weight aluminum rims with latex tubes, 28 mm high thread count open clincher tires running 75 psi = more cushy than my 50 mm carbon rims...the rims depth likely increases the stiffness...

what type of rims are the aluminum and carbon ones that you're comparing?  mostly i'm wondering when the carbon ones where made and by whom

They look great--and you didn't even show off the hubs, which I think were the original the stars of I-9's show.  Kind of bummed you went with black hubs; I think blue would have been killer.  Orange frame, blue hubs, very Kissena.

My feeling is it's hard to have too many wheels, even though I'm trying to reduce my number.  They do more for your riding performance than frames.  

That written, I think you're falling into marketing speak in regards to compliance.  I don't see how you can notice rim compliance it unless you're bottoming out the tire pretty frequently, something you probably aren't intending to do at the pressure you should be running those tires at for maximum rolling efficiency.  I don't know why there'd be rim movement if the tire casing is flexing without flattening.  Considering that the unsupported rim walls are much shorter on the rims than a typical tubed clincher, I almost wonder if there's be less compliance (aka flexing) at the rim wall.  Flexing over the rest of the rim would be bad as that would lead to all sorts of problem.

Traveling from May/11/18 to May/17/18 and looking to please borrow or rent a bike case.

Would probably need it a couple of days before and after so from May 9th to May 19ish.

Hoping for something airport ninja, to avoid fees, ala Gavilan BFF, but any case would ultimately do.

after significant delays in receiving the rims...my wheel builder has come through with a rebuild of my aluminum clincher wheelset.  The past 2 builds used stans alpha 340 rims & American Classic 2318 rims.  Both those builds came in at 1300 grams.  Both wheelsets failed after 3 years as the spokes nipples started to pull through the rear rims...but I diverge
The new build is using my Alchemy Elf & Orc hub set...which are now on their 3rd build.  These hubs have the widest flange on the market so you can build stiff wheels with them.  The rear hub has five bearings....FIVE !!!

The rims are Boyd Altamount Lites with a fancy ceramic dip

The rims 24 front & 28 rear.  The rims weigh 435 grams.  They are wide...they are stiff...they are strong

Yacks took these wheels out for 18 miles in that monsoon tonight and I was very impressed with the braking.  When wet, the braking was very close to dry.  The initial brake fade you encounter as the brake pads wipe clean the rim is not really there...they just grab
