I’ll throw in another recommendation for the Bolt. I’ve used several Garmins and I hated them all except for the Edge 500. Every time a computer would croak, I’d go back to that trusty computer. It just wouldn’t give up the ghost no matter what I put it through. It wasn’t fancy but I could rely on it.

I feel the same way about the Wahoo Bolt. There are sexier options out there, but it does what I need it to reliably and is easy to use.

Bolt - pretty reliable and I can live with the reduced options v Garmin. 

In other news - Wahoo are taking it back to the future....I actually would buy this.

Thanks guys. I never had a problem with my garmins and I really liked having different data screens (kickr, outdoor long ride, intervals, etc) and the only complaint I had was the lap start/stop buttons were a little sticky (or poorly placed) on the 530. I think in the interests of growth I'll give the bolt a try.

late to the party here, but fully support the Bolt. Had a Garmin 810 and after a few years and many corrupted files later, I had enough. Have been super happy with the Bolt (and you can also add multiple pages to the Bolt (I have a general page, a page with just power numbers, climbing page, etc.))

I switched to the roam and love it , color mapping and bigger screen for my aging eyes

I was really excited about it as well until I learned that it only works on the most recent generation of the standard Kickr. No love for the Core.

Yeah seems a bit short sighted to not have it work with your current customer base...

To be fair, it requires an RJ45 connector which they didn't start adding to the trainers until the latest iteration. It would have been great if they'd added something like that to previous generations in anticipation of future upgrades and such, but few companies think that far ahead.

It's also a great way to get people to buy new trainers. There's always someone out there who just has to have the freshest technology.

also, just making sure we are all clear as to what this does... it simply adds a third protocol to connect the trainer. Today all smart trainers support BLE and ANT+, this dongle adds WiFi as a 3rd Protocol to Kickr trainers.

All related software, like Zwift, support BLE and ANT+ but today only Wahoo owned software supports this new 3rd WiFi protocol.

TLDR: Zwift today does NOT support connecting via this dongle.

kinda perfect -- I'm gonna guess they just told him to please do an honest review, and he is Chris Froome, so he basically did. I like it. Also, cool to see riders speaking highly of the new Hammerhead Karoo, it is a project I consulted on over the years. 

Alex Dowsett had a video on the Karoo last week I think. Basically said he went in with low expectations because he hadn’t heard of it and his experience has been of you haven’t heard of it, it’s probably not that good, but is very pleasantly surprised and happy using it.

I'm impressed. Can't think of a single other review where there were legitimate complaints aired. Would be great to see more like it.

     I loved hearing Froome criticize his sponsors. Fascinated to learn his bar/stem combo flexs too much for him.

     Hoping Shimano took note about the calipers and SwissStop the rotors.  

     It also tells us what he thought worked on his previous bike.  Guess he didn't find braking on carbon in the rain a major issue.

Calling all Crux owners: my seat post slipped down when I was riding today. Does anyone know the torque value for the seat post clamp bolt? I've looked online but can't find it for the life of me.

Leonard Zinn has recommended torque values in the back of his road bike maintenance books. He lists 5-7Nm for seat collar bolts (M5) and 7-9Nm for M6 bolts. 

The crux probably doesn't have a collar but the above might be good starting points until you get an official number. If its an aluminum post, there is little risk if you overtighten a few Nm

Specialized's customer service actually got back to me much faster than I ever expected. The official value is 6.2 Nm for anyone who may need it!

I think the specs are found in the regular bike manual (not the one specific to the crux). There's a chapter that describes the part and what torque spec should be followed. I had trouble figuring out the saddle clamp specs as well and found it there. 

More carbon paste?

Yeah, that’s the second option. The bolt wasn’t close to tight so gonna see if properly tightening will do the trick first

I must have bashed the SRAM Rival 1 rear derailleur on something and a plastic cable guide crucial for shifting cracked off. It fell apart over the weekend after a tube change as I ran through the gears to test the shifting. Doesn't look user replaceable, but I'll attempt to glue it back together with JB Weld or something. Pretty annoyed - I'd gladly upgrade to a Force or Shimano if it means tougher materials.

So today I posted a second Bike feature....

Glued it up with regular old epoxy. Looks "okay" to me - relatively low stress bit though the shift cable routes around it so there is always some tension on it. I have to look at my other road derailleurs, but I think they normally have the cable routed around metal guides and not plastic.

Sigh.

@David Yang My Force1 CX derailleur also has a plastic guide, but I am happy to say that it has never failed me in the 6+ CX seasons and abuse on single track trails. Now watch what happens after my having written that 

I'm thinking it's a freak accident? I dunno, I didn't crash or ride anywhere challenging. I found one old blog where a guy using a similar SRAM MTB RD had the same problem but that's about it.

And yeah I checked and my Rival road RD is all metal routing. 

Still really loving the 1x setup which is so affordable and accessible to revive an old drivetrain.
