Im down to go, would prefer to go the night before and with more people or else i might not do it. I could fit a total of 4 people and bicycles on my car.
I'm in! First mtb race for me. If I could grab a spot in your car that would be dope. My ride is in the shop right now.

Only like a 2 hour drive from the city. 6 or 7am departure totalllllly doable.

HEY! Did everyone know XC nationals are in 10 days in PA? I didn't until 5 minutes ago! Cat 3s race on Thursday, course preview on Wednesay! As of now, I'm in for for mens 30-39 cat 3! https://www.usacycling.org/2014/cross-country-mountain-bike/ Car pools, room share anyone?

Mattie, I just signed up for this. 40-49 cat 3. Unfortunately I can only leave Wednesday afternoon after work (after 5). If that works for you, let me know. I'm renting a car. Or we can just drive there first thing Thursday morning.
I'm going up Wednesday with the wifey, staying at the Wingate in Allentown. Let's try and coordinate the pre ride. I plan on winning!

Prerode the XC nats course at bear creek today to get ready for tomorrow's race. It's bit of a nutter, pretty techy single track rock lines, tight off camber switchbacks, mud pits and wet roots. Gonna be a banger with other dudes on the race course. I was half hoping it'd be a power course I could get all roadie retard power on, but gonna have to make time up on the wide open pedal sections and try and hold it through the techy stuff. All the guys riding this on hardtails get much respect.
What Mattie said... ^ ^

Uhm...how do we have two dudes who raced MTB nationals, one of whom gets an amazing 2nd place and no race reports? Is MTB nationals not a big deal? Am I missing something here?
We had 3 guys at nats actually. Maybe no race reports are forthcoming because this  thread is over here in the group rides section and not the racing section

You too Rick? Who else? REPORTS I DEMAND REPORTS!!!
Not me I had to work. Mattie, Phil and Nelson
Here you go, from guy who's DFL.

First of all, I made two mistakes before the race even started. I didn't pre-ride and didn't warmup.

There were 8 people in my age group.

The first two miles went straight up and I was on the wrong gear already going into it. The start was a flat gravel section then turned a tight left then went up. The early part of the climb was narrow with tight rocky turns but it soon shallowed up a bit. I was already behind at this point since.. no warm up before hand. The top of the slope had a feed zone which was nice. The back side of the slope wasn't a straight descent but there were lots of rocky sections over tight turns that at times I thought were really treacherous. I walked a lot of those sections. I didn't want to face plant on any of them. @Marc - picture the summer scramble race last year but way more rocky.

The course was really technical and I was in over my head. It was really just me against the course rather than racing the other guys. I endo'd a couple of times, once on a muddy slick rooty section amongst other slips and falls i endured.

The other guys in my age group were strong (Or i was just really weak). The guy who came in before me was 20 mins ahead of me.

Not really much there, except that I didn't have the necessary handling skills for this course. But I enjoyed being there and seeing Mattie and Nelson.
Props Phillip for going out there and giving it a go. I found my experience MTB-ing last year so demoralizing. That I only briefly thought about picking up a new Cannondale FS ride. These courses are insane.

Agreed!  Good on you for getting out there.
Marc, I'd love to go out with you sometime. You SO have the right attitude, you just need the right course.
Tomorrow's is the right course!
It would be a great course @neil, but Brendan needs help defending the yellow at Floyd so I'll be racing L&C cup instead.
@Phillip- Haven't you figured out how to bi-locate yet?
I'm still trying to figure that out..
