Mountain Biking
I've heard the same. But I've also heard that subsequent visits for other fits e.g. next year's mtb fit, your road and/or cross bike etc will often be discounted for you as a repeat customer/client.neilx said:@Gwynna- Mike Sherry at BikeRidersNYC in WBurg knows fit and mountain bikes well. However, his fits jobs are expensive - circa $350. I'm curious to hear of your bad experience with SID's if comfortable describing it.
suspension etc...) and does anyone know a specialist for that here?

- There are usually one or two races at Stewart Forest and for me anything at Stewart is good to race. Look for names like "Stewart Super Six pack" (a 6 hour "endurance style' race there) and the "Stewart Darkhorse 40" (2 loops/40 miles).
- Also sprinkle in "Hike A Bike" on May 7th at Lippman Park https://www.bikereg.com/Net/annual-hike-a-bike-mtb-race
- Look for the Williams Lake Classic--last year it was in early June http://www.williamslakeproject.com/events/2013-event-schedule/
- If you qualify, the closest Nationals this year are at Bear Creek,Pa July 17-20:
- Darkness at 909-Around Halloween, a night individual time trial on a great course-to which last year's Cat 3 winner, Mattie Davitt can attest.
- Something Wicked-Six Hours of Cathedral Pines-around Thanksgiving, a six hour endurance style race, relatively nearby in LI.
Is L-ville still a possibility for you?
As a general note, if the winter
we've had continues well into March, it's possible that the April start
to the season will be pushed later until the trails are dry enough to race on
without damage.
As Gwynna mentions above, the local H2H (Hudson to Highlands) Campmoor series is always a great place to start. If you can do the whole Series, great. If not, I've highlighted the courses I like best from those, but of course, YMMV.

Rick- You're from the West Coast originally, right? Then, it's worth noting that "technical" around here generally means rocky stuff (from baby heads to shale-type outcroppings) . And, depending on the time of year and weather patterns, it can mean muddy as well some times. As you head north and east into new England, the outstanding technical aspects tend to be roots, though there's no shortage of rocks or mud there as well. Of course, exceptions abound.
